Jace Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 This is an absolute joke 1 they could never monitor it anyway and 2 why should they get £200 its actually mental, if the goverment can waste money on this how about giving some of the pension money back that has been nicked from the firefighters and teachers pension funds?
The God Emperor Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 there's not enough Picard facepalming gifs in the world to describe how this made me feel
sphericalfox Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 It's both a behavioural and societal problem. My wife sometimes feels uncomfortable breastfeeding in public, depending on the place she's in. There are certain businesses/shops which accommodate mothers to be able to do this without stigmatisation and leering dicks looking to see a bit of tit. Then there's perceived advantages of not breastfeeding by some women. It allows you to smoke, drink and doesn't tie you down to a child. Essentially someone else can feed your child formula from a bottle. My son will be breastfed, as his sister was before him, as their immune system will be stronger, they will be less ill in future years, that's less time off work for me and my wife, less cost to the NHS, and more time for my kids to be in school learning, and not constantly buckled by some simple flu or cold. It also builds a stronger bond between mother and child too. I think there's a level of selfishness to the lack of uptake, but the longterm benefits are perhaps not spelled out clearly enough to young and expectant mothers.
lavrentis Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Should definitely be encouraged, nothing more natural and crucial for development as mothers milk at that age imo.
Captain... Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 Is there advantage over direct or indirect breast feeding?
Dan Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 So in other words, you're now getting paid for the basics. Can I get paid for having a piss, and a bonus if I miss the seat? It's attitudes that need changing and this'll make them even worse. Insane idea.

I'll just go in the street from now on and hopefully the father of the people will pay me to use my toilet
Mike Oxlong Posted 12 November 2013 Posted 12 November 2013 If this is the ethos then us blokes should get paid at least a couple of hundred smackers every time we knock one out. Saves the state zillions by keeping the population down.

Tielemans63 Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 So what happens if, like my wife and thousands of others who give birth by caesarean section, the mother is unable to breast feed due to the effect the operation has on the body? My wife was determined to breast feed but two weeks in and our daughter was seriously underweight because the missus' milk had simply stopped following the op. Would we get £200 for trying or is it a case of you get nowt cuz your wife's tits don't work at the moment?

Well, nothing, I see your point, but because some people can't take advantage of it, doesn't mean we shouldn't encourage people to breastfeed and if this is the best way to do it (which I don't think it is) then we shouldn't be concerned about perceived unfairness on those that can't breastfeed. It is not a competition. I hope your wife got plenty of support and help and advice in dealing with childbirth after a c-section and that you don't feel like she has been poorly treated by the NHS.
Dan Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 It really does amaze me that people would have to be given a financial incentive to do this - can we not just educate people on how it's a good thing? Symapthies here to people like Paddy Akinbiyi though.
Mike Oxlong Posted 13 November 2013 Posted 13 November 2013 I'm willing to be breast fed for free. http://youtu.be/AOfI48IWESo
ADK Posted 15 November 2013 Posted 15 November 2013 I'm pretty sure the government won't be paying much if anything for the shopping vouchers. You can already get tons of vouchers for baby products because the sellers are trying to get new mothers to develop brand loyalty to their products. I wonder if it is really a bit blown out of proportion.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 November 2013 Posted 15 November 2013 Fvcking hypocrites, when I offer money for a quick suck it's called 'harassment.'
MPH Posted 16 November 2013 Posted 16 November 2013 As an aside in the long term it could save the government billions of pounds ( and in particular the NHS) as the health benefits of breastfeeding feeding is quite remarkable. So yeah.... that's probably the motivation behind all this I'd say....
