Finnegan Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Ken lives in a shit housing association flat up St Peters / Highfields way. He's never banged on about nice holidays, cars or luxuries. He has a tablet, wow, you can pick a shit one up immensely cheap nowadays. He's hardly living it up on the tax payers expense. Everything he posts about his lifestyle just makes me ****ing depressed. It's Dickensian.
The Doctor Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 I have a theory on crime - prevention is better than cure; so it is better to stop crime through harsh punishment rather than cure these scumbags via rehab whilst inside Or we could rehabilitate them so they can be back out in society and contributing rather than just sitting in prison taking up resources.

Endless free time with which he services numerous hobbies including his radio show, social events, training courses, loads of time down the pub - I mean he's down the pub basically every single day, his dominoes league, endless lie-ins, endless free time, no pressure, no stress, just easy living. What he chooses to do with his time might not be to your tastes, but I'd venture that lots of people stuck in full time jobs wouldn't mind being gifted that kind of free time and spending money to persue all those hobbies. It is literally money for nothing. Hardly 12 years a slave? Not exactly walking like a starving Egyptian. In many ways everyday is just another day in paradise for ken.

I think this has become a personal attack now and is inappropriate. No mention of this fella endlessly searching for work or using his skills in a voluntary capacity to help others and improve his employment prospects, just a tirade of judgemental abuse. Again.

How can it possibly be considered an attack when I'm simply listing all the things in his life he cheerfully posts about on here? If ken is offended he'll be the first to say so. He doesn't need you patronising do-gooders defending him. If anything the implication that he needs you to speak on his behalf is what will offend him the most. So my advice to you is to hang on to yourself mate. Don't stay here spending your golden years breaking glass. Otherwise in time and after some changes you'll look back in anger.

MooseBreath Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 It must be really confusing every time you get banned from here for you to work out why. Ken loves being talked about mate. Stop being such a pansy.
Nick Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 Pansy. Fair enough, maybe I'm soft. Though in my defence, I'm not the guy spending my days trying to publicly humiliate an unemployed pensioner on an internet site. That's a role profile for a real man.

You seem incapable of comprehending anything I'm saying. You're clearly a level or two below me intellectually speaking mate, so let's just leave it at that shall we. Let's likesay agree to disagree, move on like adults eh but, catboy, ken?
cambridgefox Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 I've not heard the term Pansy for a while.made me chuckle.

You get credit from me just for taking part in this clear David vs goliath style battle. It takes guts to bite off more than you can chew. Credit where it's due, young warrior, thou hast proven thyself capable of an occasional act of bravery. Settle down now, little one. Dinnae get too excited. As for that picture, it couldn't be further from the truth. I'm currently relaxing at work spending all morning in negotiations where I smashed the competition to pieces. Wasn't a big deal relatively speaking, but made my company six-figures and the boss has been into my office already with the "thanks so much" and the "congratulations" and the "you've had a great year, look forward to your Christmas bonus" and all this practical worshipping of yours truly, none of which I care about because I'm motivated by pure unfiltered competence more than anything else, and in ten minutes i'll be putting on my £2,300 tailored hand cut jacket and heading home in my brand new A8, where Mrs moose (if she knows what's good for her) will be waiting with a cup of tea and a fvcking steak dinner. Yet none of this even brings me any happiness. I've got so much raw ability that merely succeeding in achieving vast material wealth and career domination doesn't do much for me, I just accept the plaudits as if it is simply the minimum I could ever expect.

Lamby Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 I bet Ken is gonna love this, as part of one event my work is doing on the 30th, they're giving up part of the door and bar takings and donating it to Crisis.
Rincewind Posted 11 December 2013 Author Posted 11 December 2013 Or we could rehabilitate them so they can be back out in society and contributing rather than just sitting in prison taking up resources. Agreed It costs £36000 per year for each male prisonor more for women.. A good rehabilitation scheme would cost a fraction of that. Which is more beneficial to the taxpayer?

It's Dickensian. Apart from his housing situation I think Ken has a pretty good life, he gets to do all his hobbies, seems to have a decent lifestyle, can go pub most days and has the odd luxury, not bad for early retirement. Certainly not Dickensian where you had people working fourteen hour days to put bread on the table. Judging by Labour's policy plan today of cutting pensions to ring fence benefits, we may even be seeing him wearing a blue rosette in 2015!

Find me one of Ken's critics that'd seriously swap their lives with him. Go on. I mean, actually, it should be easy. Jack your job in, apply for housing and JSA, I'll find you a cracking flat on the Peters or the Matthews in walking distance of the Last Plant. You can keep us all updated with how much fun you're having on here. If Ken's so lucky what's stopping you mugs? Kop out answers of "dignity", "self respect", etc expected.

You forgot doing manual work for 30 odd years until you are physically unable to do the job any more. I don't have all the facts, but didn't Ken work in security as a night guard, paying his way and contributing to NI and tax until it got to a point where he was physically unable to work and too close to retirement to make re-training worth anyone's money? I mean isn't that the whole point of the welfare state, to ensure that people who have paid into the pot get looked after when circumstances out of their control mean they are unable to find work? I don't always agree with Ken and the way he pushes his causes on here, but he is doing a lot more than most, me included, to try and make this world a better place, and that I respect.
Finnegan Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 I dunno,I've made my feelings clear before, I find him tiresome and I don't really read his posts. But I do find it odd, the whole making out he's a career benefit claimant thing. If you've been round the board a few years you'll remember he was always working weird hours and chipping in with the odd bit of kooky humour and real ale chat. He's hardly Lamby's prototype.
Webbo Posted 11 December 2013 Posted 11 December 2013 The attacks on Ken do go a bit far sometimes and although I've taken the piss at times I do try to stop some of the worse stuff that's said about him. But what do you do when he starts a thread like this, asking us if we're offended that a homeless man has been beaten up? As if any of us would approve? What should I do, delete the thread and be accused of censorship or let people have their right of reply. When you go out of your way to accuse others of being cruel and selfish towards those less fortunate you're asking for an unpleasant reply. When you claim that everybody on benefits is starving to death I think it fair to point out that Ken himself is on benefits and he's not starving.

I'm not saying it's one I want to swop with, I'm saying it's not a bad life for what he's doing. Unemployed before national retirement age, early retirement having never paid into a pension scheme and doesn't own property. What sort of a life do you actually think suits that? Big house in Great Glen? £600 a week? People plan for their retirements and they shouldn't be made to feel guilty for that if they can afford a few things somebody else can't. Believe me what a retired person now is getting will be a cakewalk compared to what me or you will facing if we retire at the age of 70 with no savings, no pension plan and no property a long wat ahead. You'll be longing for this day and age back. The whole 'you pay tax for your pension' is a myth, that money has been long spent, the current workers are paying for the pensioners now, our generation will probably be the first that pays for its own as well as the one before it. You know the country is fcuked financially when even Labour are not only stopping their opposition to the benefit cap, but actually adding the state pension into it. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/budget/10511217/Maternity-or-paternity-pay-could-be-slashed-in-new-benefit-cap.html

Ken can stick up for himself and like Moose said he doesnt need to be patronised by guilt ridden socialists.
