Charl91 Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 And why? Trying to work out who to vote for next time round, but I can't make up my mind for the life of me. I voted Conservative last time, but I'm not sure I could vote for them again, unless they get rid of Gove. Similarly, I don't want to vote Lib Dem, because Nick Clegg. On the other hand, I don't want to vote for Labour, since I don't agree with their benefits policies (which seems to be 'give them to everyone'). Someone give me some good reasons for voting for one of them. 'Cus I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to politics (except Gove-related politics).
davieG Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Look at their manifestos and their general political philosophies either that or wait until you know who the candidates are and pick the one you most agree with. There are other options besides the 3 main parties.
Webbo Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Do I really need to answer? I reckon you can all guess.
Guest MattP Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Conservative. Overall I think they have done a good job, low unemployment rates again, so many new jobs created. Country is financially going in the right direction and we are now the fastest growing economy in Western Europe. The coalition has done a lot for working people from taking everyone under 10k completely out of the tax bracket to middle earners having more take home pay. Stability is good (see Nigel Pearson and his regime) and if they have another term I think we'll continue to grow as a country and start to get back on our feet. Ed Miliband and Ed Balls in charge of the country and economy fills me with as much fear as anything I can think of.
Finnegan Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Whichever leftist party is the most obvious protest vote. Voting is pointless in Leicester West, it's one of the more solid seats. If UKIP or the Tories had any chance here I might vote labour.

If UKIP or the Tories had any chance here I might vote labour. It's not as clear cut in Leicester West anymore, Tories were only 4,000 behind last time. Labour will still win but it's not the absolute safe cert it was under Hewitt, even more though with numbnuts Kendall representing the place.
yorkie1999 Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 No-one, i'm going to deface my ballot paper on purpose. The more votes mp's get , the more license they think they have to dream up schemes and methods of chiselling money out of the taxpayer's pocket. Conservative=money grabbing land owning overlords Upper Labour=money grabbing oxbridge mates of the tories Lower Labour=money grabbing lazy ex shop-steward communists Liberal=Money grabbing weed smoking tories. UKIP=Money grabbing ex bnp The only party that's worth voting for is the SNP because at least we'll get to piss ourselves laughing when they fvck up Scotland.
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 The one thing I do think is that a vote for UKIP is essentially a vote for Labour. UKIP may well take votes away from the Conservatives, not from Labour. Which way I vote is a tough call. If I vote for what would be better for my profession, it would be Labour. If I vote for the economy, it would be Conservative. So I really don't know this time.

Gold Coast Fox Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Conservative. Best of a bad bunch, in my opinion.

I still find it amusing that Liz Kendall is / was dating Mr Gilbert from the Inbetweeners. Think she lives in London too, I admit I did vote for her last election though.

Guest MattP Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 I still find it amusing that Liz Kendall is / was dating Mr Gilbert from the Inbetweeners. Think she lives in London too, I admit I did vote for her last election though. is she? Quality. She's the perfect Labour MP for inner City Leicester though, born in Hertfordshire, all girls grammar school educated then onto Cambridge. Did she get through on one of the all womens shortlists? Know she tried to become a Labour candidate a few times the proper way. Lucky to be shifted into a safe seat like Labour West.
Rincewind Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Don't know my MP is Jon Ashworth. A certainty. But we have a near 100% Labour council and have gone along with what the government wants. (other councils are rebelling) May vote independent. Lost faith in Lib Dems and the current crop words fail me without swearing. Labour have no spine. Don't know much about UKIP but seem further right than the Tories. All the rest too weak. I'll see what happens in the next year..
ousefox Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Didn't realise how on top Labour were in the polls. I'll have to decide who to vote for depending on whether I get to vote in Sheffield or York. Will be interesting to see how Clegg does here. Would love to see him lose his seat.
SemperEadem Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Football is always blue and politics is always red. Simple.
Guest MattP Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Football is always blue and politics is always red. Simple. Why do you vote red?
Rincewind Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Depends what I believe in the manafestos. Tory U-Turns & Links To Broken Promises Tory-Led Government U-Turns David Cameron's U-turns include broken election promises and policy reversals in government, here is a list. If I have left any off please either post them on the main thread or contact me [email protected] and I will add them on. U-turned Andy Coulson - finally got rid of Andy Coulson after he became embroiled in phone hacking story U-turned on Spending cuts - said there would be no drastic spending cuts - before embarking on an unprecedented round of austerity cuts. David Cameron said spending cuts during the early part of a Conservative government wouldn't be ‘particularly extensive’ U-turned on Pensioners Winter Fuel Allowance - saying he would not cut pensioners winter fuel allowance - then did U-turned on the NHS..."There will be no top down reorganisation of the NHS......David Cameron U-turned on not raising VAT "We have absolutely no plans to raise VAT. Our first Budget is all about recognising we need to get spending under control rather than putting up tax". U-turned Fuel tax Stabiliser - its commitment to consult on a 'fair fuel tax stabiliser U-Turned Knife Crime - said in opposition that anyone caught carrying a knife could expect a jail term - now scrapped. U-turned on Child benefit Cuts........."I'm not going to flannel you, I'm going to give it to you straight. I like the child benefit, I wouldn't change child benefit, I wouldn't means-test it, I don't think that is a good idea."........David Cameron U-turned on saying no cuts to frontline services......"What I can tell you is, any cabinet minister, if I win the election, who comes to me and says: "Here are my plans" and they involve front-line reductions, they'll be sent straight back to their department to go away and think again.".......David Cameron U-turned EMA - said they would not scrap Educational Maintenance Allowance - then did. U-turned Tuition Fees - Clegg pledged not raise tuition fees then voted to treble them. U-turned on Future jobs Fund - Before the General Election, David Cameron praised the Future Jobs Fund as a “good scheme†and the Conservatives said they had “no plans to change existing Future Jobs Fund commitmentsâ€. U-turned on Lisbon treaty referendum - "cast-iron guarantee" to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty U-turned defence scrapping Nimrods and sacking troops by email etc. U-turned on pledge to help disabled children and their parents. U-turned on Education - Gove forced into so many u -turns found it impossible to get right U-turned on National Insurance contributions - "We'll scrap the Gordon Brown's jobs tax" - did for employers but employees contributions have risen 1% U-turned Recall MPs - scrapped pledge for public to be allowed to recall under-performing MP U-turned on Forests -Forced to do a u-turn on selling off ancient woodlands (but this is till happening by stealth) U-turned on School Sports programme - Forced to u-turn on cutting funding for school sports after public outcry and outcry from sporting heroes U-turned on Bookstart- Forced to do a u-turn on cutting funding for "Bookstart" after public outcry U-turned on idea to pack the 1922 Committee with ministers after a Tory backbench rebellion U-turned and got rid of his personal photographer after putting him on the public payroll after public outcry U-turned on granting anonymity to rape suspects, were swiftly ditched in the face of a public outcry. U-turned on wearing lounge suit to royal wedding -and wore a morning suit to the royal wedding, after much barracking from the public and William Hague saying he would look an idiot in an ordinary suit. U-turned Housing benefit - forced to drop plans to impose a 10 per cent cut in housing benefit on the long-term unemployed after public outcry. U-turned on Free Milk. The health minister Anne Milton suggested scrapping free school milk for the under-fives to save money, but Downing Street retreated after Cameron was compared with Margaret Thatcher. The policy confusion led to the absurd scene of David Willetts defending the plan on The Andrew Marr Show while No 10 was in the act of briefing that it had been dropped. U-turned on NHS Direct - to replace NHS Direct with a cut-price "health advice service" prompted a wave of #savenhsdirect tweets and another John Prescott campaign. The Health Secretary soon backed down and promised that only the number would change HOWEVER this is sleight of hand as they are still radically changing NHS Direct. U-turned - Liberating the NHS making changes to Liberating the NHS reforms after coming in for serious pressure from across the board. U-turned - Academy Status over schools being awarded academy status Ministers had said the grant to provide such services would be cut by £148m this year and £265m next year. Forced to u-turn because attracted by having an increased grant if they opted out too many schools applied. This is causing turmoil, chaos and confusion in our education service, schools simply do not know where they stand. U-Turned - over council refuse collections. The government has admitted it cannot force councils in England to provide weekly bin collections. While in opposition Eric Pickles pledged that the Tories would restore weekly bin collections. U- Turned - Fuel Poverty - government to drop its commitment to end fuel poverty by 2016. U-Turned - NICE The Government has backed down on its plans to strip the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) of its duty to recommend drugs and treatments for the National Health Service. U-Turned - NHS Government forced into a u - turn over its plans to privatise the NHS and bring more private companies into it. The Future Forum report was a "demolition job on the government's misjudgements and mishandling of the NHS." U-Turned - JUSTICE BILL - Tory government forced to abandon plans to offer 50% sentence discounts to offenders of serious crimes like rape after a national outcry. U-Turned - On promise to provide 9.000 recharging points by 2013 - Government's green credentials were called into question yesterday after it scrapped plans for a nationwide network of recharging points for electric cars U-Turned BSkyB Takeover-Bid - Just weeks before a decision was due to me made about the BSkyB bid the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt had said he intended to order a full-scale competition probe. Then out of the blue Hunt suddenly performed a huge U-turn and accepted that a plan by Murdoch to spin off Sky News as an independent company and that on this basis Hunt would grant the takeover-bid. (Events thent ook a different course forcing the government onto the back foot and they referred the bid to the Competition Commission, shortly before BSkyB decided to drop the their bod for the remaining 61% of shares for the company. (Ofcom are now looking at News Internation/NewsCorp to see if they are a "fit and proper" company to hold a licence in this country) U-Turn Fuel Poverty - Cameron promised rein in energy companies and to end fuel poverty by 2016 by giving regulators more power - Regulators have not been given more power and now all the energy companies have massively increased their prices raising the cost of gas and electricity by 19% gas and at least 10% for electricity, Cameron is caught lying - again! One or two u-turns in a government is understandable, but this many in just one year shows a shocking level of dithering and of poor judgement, ill thought out policy, policy making on the hoof and an alarming level of incompetent cabinet ministers, right up to and including the prime minister. I Nominate David Cameron For A "U-Turner" Prize List and Links To Broken Conservative Promises If you have one that I have missed please email me on [email protected] (or if you have any other info for the blog feel free to email- you're welcome!) Damning new figures show the number of trusts failing to meet the 18-week deadline for patients to be seen after being referred by GPs has doubled in a year from 25 to 51.Broken Promise # 36 DAVID Cameron was yesterday accused of breaking another election promise by doing nothing to tackle soaring energy prices. The PM promised to give regulators more power, but failed to act this month as Scottish Power announced a £175-a-year price hike. Labour said the PM had “sat on his hands while gas and electricity soaredâ€. Broken Promise # 37 Despite David Cameron's pledge to hold a 'bonfire of the quangos' thousands more bureaucrats have been recruited by the Tory government. David Cameron's "no ifs no buts" promise to reduce immigration to tens of thousands lays in tatters. It has been revealed that immigration as risen by 21% over the past year. When Cameron decided to use immigrants as an election weapon he was warned that his pledge was just lies, now we all know this, perhaps he will lay off using immigrants as political footballs. The number of people coming to the UK for more than a year, less the number leaving, hit 239,000, the second highest annual figure on record and the fourth highest figure for any 12-month period since records began. Analysts and campaigners said it would make it "more difficult than ever" for the Government to fulfil its pledge to cut net migration to the tens of thousands by 2015.Broken Promise # 39 IDavid Cameron has created more than 150 new public bodies despite pledging to hold a “bonfire of the quangosâ€.Labour said the Government’s controversial NHS shake-up alone would lead to more than 140 groups.
ADK Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Labour. It will take a lot for me to ever consider voting Tory again. I'm a natural liberal and might vote for them still depending on what policies they decide on. Either way I live in a safe Tory seat.
FuriousFox46 Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 I know I'd never vote for UKIP, not in a million years.I want to vote for Lib Dems, ideally because they're principles are the ones I agree with the most, but the party is plagued by some awful people.
Guest MattP Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 I'm going to ring Gracie Samuels, she'll have a balanced view.
The People's Hero Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Tory. Not a natural Tory voter and disagree with parts but generally my core values have more in common with theirs than any other party.
MooseBreath Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 Thinking about voting Labour so the economy dries up again and I can go back to working less than 60 hours a week. In all seriousness though, conservatives are the only credible party left in the race, so I'll be voting for them.
darko2k7 Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 If there was a NO vote box that's where my x would be going , but there isn't so i don't even vote .
Rincewind Posted 6 February 2014 Posted 6 February 2014 There should be a box with spoilt paper and no confidence in any of them.
