Strokes Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Can't argue with that. Farage is very good in debates, amazed Clegg agreed to it TBH, even though I agree with clegg more than farage, to me it's a reckless decision from the lib dem leader. He agreed to it because he believed he could beat him, by ridicule. It has failed spectacularly, because for farage, this is what defines him politically. Anyone who doesn't think we at least deserve a referendum, cant have much faith in the argument anyway.
purpleronnie Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Pretty brutal debate, entertaining. Clegg performed better than he did previously. But he lost and of course the polls will show this, but lets face it the Lib dems have little support so those polls are quite irrelevant.

ADK Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 It's only relevant if people actually changed their opinions based on the debate.
purpleronnie Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 I don't think they are irrelevant, at least I hope not. Well if your a ukip voter or even a tory you'll side with Farage and lib dems have little support thesedays so are unlikely to get people to side with him, its hard to have a balanced view on these debates. There were misinformation from both clegg and Farage, farage is a great debater if you don't know the facts.
Webbo Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and UKIP leader Nigel Farage clashed again this Wednesday in the second of two debates about the future of Britain’s relationship with the E.U. A YouGov poll conducted for The Sun finds that 68% of people who watched the debate say Nigel Farage performed better overall. 27% say Clegg came out on top and 5% don't know. A YouGov poll conducted for The Sun after the previous debate (held on March 26) found that debate viewers gave Farage the edge over Clegg by 57% to 36%. Both polls are weighted to be representative politically and by attitudes to EU membership. The 60-minute debate was broadcast on the BBC.
RobHawk Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Didn't watch and don't care to be honest! 2 political no marks twisting whatever facts the can to support their side of the argument. Farage is good at public speaking because of the way he presents himself, but if you listen to what he says both of it is circumstantial bullshit! Clegg talks like a posh robot so even if he did make a valid point you would have switched off anyway.
RobHawk Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 The deputy PM a political no mark He is though really! You have a better chance of becoming top dog than he does! The only reason he's there is because Cameron couldn't beat a labour party led by Gordon Brown comprehensively enough! The lib Dems are a party in decline and it wouldn't surprise me if they are gone from the political landscape altogether within the next 15 years.

The lib Dems have the greatest chance of power out of all the parties, come the next election. Any party wishing to govern will need to cosy up to them, if the electorate wont give them outright power.

Im not a fan of either myself but I beleive Clegg is killing his party!
RobHawk Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Just deem some highlights on the news! Petty squabbling, trying to make each other look bad etc. Both look pathetic to me! Farage thinks he's leading a peoples army??? Most ridiculous thing i've heard in a long time!
Strokes Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Not if Farage has his way! Im not a fan of either myself but I beleive Clegg is killing his party!Farage won't impact general politics much, hopefully he might affect a few manifestos. Cleggs a shapeshifter, a perfect modern politician. I'm not sure what Integrity the lib Dems had to lose to be honest, they were clowns, now.....clowns?

I beleive that being in or out of the EU Is the least of our problems right now. I also don't think the debate will make a blind bit of difference. I don't like clegg or farage, but farage does tend to annoy me more, he's got one of those faces.

I agree farage does have an annoying smug face but im not voting on that, fortunately for him.
purpleronnie Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Love freedom of movement, love the EU, I'll never vote UKIP.
Strokes Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Love freedom of movement, love the EU, I'll never vote UKIP.Its not my bag ron and UKIP are the only opposing party, so im not left with many options.
RobHawk Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 I just don't see what the big problem with the EU is? The fact that our politicians are mainly made up of self serving public school boys is more of a concern for me as I don't feel any of them represent me. Farages argument of we want to be out of the EU but still do business with them reminds me of Salmonds claims for An independent Scotland. We want a change but will keep all the good bits! It's nonsense and pure conjecture. I don't know how farage has got away with it when Salmond was rightly ridiculed.

They are foaming at the mouths to shoot him down, if it wasnt plausable, he would have been picking shÃt off his coat by now. It isnt conjecture, that is nonsense. We dont have political union with china, india, USA or brazil but we trade quite comfortably with them.
maynefox Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Just a re-run of the first debate which I watched. More petty insults followed by "oh dear" - though I loved Clegg's remark of bringing the opening batsman from decades ago for England.I think Farage's best attack is: the surrendering of British sovereignty and the politicians off putting the referendum everyone wants.1) I agree. We have surrendered sovereignty to the EU and we are dictated by Brussels. The EU should have sticked with its purely economic means. However, I feel if UK was to leave the EU nations wouldn't be so inclined to participate in trade, especially at EU levels. I would love the EU to go back to its original purpose: an economic free-market it won't happen2) Where's this referendum every politicians say they'll have? - But, maybe now is not the right time? Clegg's point that we should have one when economic times improve further is a valid - or his he saying that so that if economic ties improve he'll argue we're better in the EU, I think that is the motive with the politicians.I quite like Farage. He does talk a lot of sense and his way of distancing himself from the "political class" could become useful for him - shame he's surround by a lot of morons.Hard to say what life would like be like leaving the EU: (economically) we could improve or falter. Once we turn our back on he EU they will be very reluctant to trade with us.

Agree with most of this bar the last point, the EU doesnt trade with us. Individual businesses from countries from within the EU trade with us by and large. I very much doubt they wont trade with out bitterness, they might if a heavy duty was applied but as most countries within the eu trade internationally, it wont impact us much.If we leave the EU, the whole thing will collapse, it wont be able to prop the poorer countries up without us. We put in far more than we take out.
Littletoe Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 I hope Nigel Farage gains power. Might take time, but this country is being exploited for its generosity by those we believed we could trust and welcome here. Nick Clegg tried referring to Britian tonight, as potentially being " Billy No Mates "... What a joke he was tonight. He will NEVER lead this nation, NEVER.
The People's Hero Posted 3 April 2014 Posted 3 April 2014 Farage is not perfect but he genuinely believe what he says. Clegg is a a career politician with, I think, no strong guiding principles or policies who appears to have had his jibes and banter ghost written by Kingfox If the agenda is to discredit Farage, surely some political party can pull out someone less pathetic, less wet, less public schoolboy and more likeable than clegg? How did this man get so close to a genuinely huge job?
