Guest MattP Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 Absolutely nothing mentioned there could be described as "ridiculous" in my opinion.
Guest MattP Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 You can disagree with it, but to describe it as ridiculous you really would have to be a young socialist yahoo with fantasys of magic money trees. People being expected to support themselves is ridiculous? Honestly thought we had left those opinions behind now after Brown's government, be careful Mark you're a young man already showing signs of "Rincewindness".
purpleronnie Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 Channel 4 doc on Farage 7pm Friday. I'll tune in, I could do with a laugh.

I think they should have to support themselves to the same extent that all British people should, I don't think they should be forced to pay for private health insurance or private education.I can't claim to be an expert, but rules like that are surely going to see us turn down legitimate asylum seekers who are under serious threat where they're currently living? I do find that absolutely ridiculous.

I do find that absolutely ridiculous. That's just nonsense, the British taxpayer should be paying for the British people, it's an National Health Service, not an International Health Service, it's absolutely obscene that's it's open to anyone, when we go to the USA or Australia we have to pay for our treatement, the same should apply here, even more so considering the financial state of the country, carry on down the route of this and there won't even be an NHS in 50 years as we won't be able to afford, act now or pay later. Even the Labour, Lib and Tory party are now agreeing with the moves being put in to prevent health tourism. Any legitimate asylum seeker will be fine, we are an island on the edge of the EU, you would have to come through 3-4 EU countries minimum to arrive here unless you were from the West Coast of Africa. Considering "legitimate" Asylum seekers are supposed to seek it in the "first" safe country they land in the argument we would be leaving them in the lurch is blown apart. Slowly but suely the country is getting back to some common sense and fiscally sensible politics. It's refreshing.
Strokes Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 I'm not sure its Ukip that look ridiculous mark. Whether you agree or not with them policies, they are hardly as you described.
Guest MattP Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 I'm not sure its Ukip that look ridiculous mark. Whether you agree or not with them policies, they are hardly as you described. The only people who call them ridiculous are the same left leaning Liberals that have been continuously made to look ridiculous themselves. The ones that for the last two years have been trotting out the same old nonsense about "austerity, "triple dip recession" etc and yet again have completely got it wrong. Clegg and his pro EU cronies were telling us for years if we didn't join the Euro we would have been left behind, in the end the decision not to join has saved us from even more financial ruin. They just get every major decision wrong and then have the arrogance to claim anyone who disagrees with them on Europe again doesn't understand, you can't make it up. Whatever Nigel and his party does, he won't be able to look as ridiculous as what this does now, what a coward.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 Farage is being considered a comfortable winner judging by most independent journalists on Twitter.Good

I didn't realise he was campaigning to not even have the referendum, I missed the debate last night, won't have time to catch up on it until the weekend. Personally I don't know how I feel about a referendum on the EU, I think there is way too much propaganda floating around about the EU (lets not have the undemocratic argument again) and the true consequences of leaving the EU and the benefits of EU membership are not really known or understood. Likewise the alternative to being an EU member hasn't been defined. As long as there can be an open and unbiased exchange of info on the EU what it really offers, the things we now take for granted, and what the Governement would do with regards immigration, and I mean actual policies, not we will be tougher on immigration rhetoric, then I support a referendum and the right for people to decide, and if I don't like it I will go and live somewhere else. But whilst the vote is maintain the status quo or have some sort of undefined change I don't think a referendum is a good idea.

BoneDog Posted 27 March 2014 Posted 27 March 2014 'No to Political Correctness - it stifles free speech.' (This is probably my favourite, unbelievable hypocrisy) 'Teach children positive messages and pride in their country.' (I think it'd be better to tell children the truth and let them decide for themselves ) 'Remove the UK from the jurisdiction of the European Court of Human Rights.' (No thanks) 'Make cuts to foreign aid that are real and rigorous.' ( ) 'Scrap HS2, all green taxes and wind turbine subsidies.' ( ) 'Proof of private health insurance must be a precondition for immigrants and tourists to enter the UK.' (So no really poor people, I assume that includes asylum seekers?) 'Immigrants must financially support themselves and their dependents for 5 years. This means private health insurance (except emergency medical care), private education and private housing - they should pay into the pot before they take out of it.' (See above) Here's the full list of ridiculous issues: http://www.ukip.org/issues Some good ideas in there. Hopefully they'll promise to de-liberalise the education system and they're onto a winner. Please Ukip, do a Putin and ban gay propaganda in schools and watch the liberal bigwigs go hysterical. Maybe chuck in a bit of National Service to de-feminize alot of these modern 'males'. Ban most American sitcoms. DE-LIBERALISE EVERYTHING FOR THE GOOD OF ENGLAND! Some may think I'm joking, but that is all I want out of a political party nowadays.

Out of interest what actually is the "gay propaganda" they're teaching in schools? Because all I remember of the mentions of being gay came in PHSE and it was basically "by the way, some men find other men attractive, and likewise for women". Telling kids that gays exist is hardly propaganda.

Not at all, he's not an irrelevant politcian now, he has to be accountable for what he has said, the days of gone of the Lib Dems making promises they can't keep as it's likely they could be involved in many governments in the near future. They are going to have to start telling in what they would do or sacrifice to go into a coalition. We won't be seeing a referendum for it, have no fear about that, not until the polls would suggest a "yes" vote would receive 70% at least. Whatever the rights and wrongs or opinions for yes or no, we are dealing with the political elite here who all have a vested interest in keeping this project alive, it's a good nest egg for a lot of them and enjoying the comp life is what these career politicians go into, even Peter Mandelson has somehow managed to wangle a 30k a year pension from the EU courtesy of the taxpayer while Greeks at the bottom of the chain search bins for food, it's absolutely sickening.
