Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 First of two EU debates tonight, should be good television. Have to give a lot of credit to Clegg for taking this on, it takes some balls to go on national TV and debate on a subject that your opponent has made a career out of and has widespread support with. Tale of the tape. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-26729567
ADK Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 I'll be interested to hear what Clegg has to say. It's far easier to argue against something than to defend it.

Finnegan Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Worth remembering though that, whatever Clegg's failings as a politician, he got himself and his party in to whatever power they have now by shining in debates.
Webbo Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Worth remembering though that, whatever Clegg's failings as a politician, he got himself and his party in to whatever power they have now by shining in debates. It was widely considered that he did well in the pre election debates but the Libs actually lost seats at the last election.

Didn't the Libs lose seats? He was very good but it's also worth remembering it's easy to make promises when you have no chance of winning an election. I think it's harsh to say he has failed as a politician, he has been part of a coalition that has completely turned the nation around and he's implemented some of his key promises.regarding chilcare, taking the poorest paid of the tax bracket etc
ADK Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Surely Clegg is the one arguing to defend something? Yes this is what I meant. He's got the harder task. The Lib Dems gained votes but lost seats at the last election.
Horibbly Wrong Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Thought this was boxing when i saw the title
Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Judging by Farage's twitter and the amount of pints he has had this last couple of hours it could be a George Best moment
Voll Blau Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Stuff like this has to be good for democracy, regardless of your political persuasion. Maybe Bloom v Galloway or something on the undercard next time?
Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Stuff like this has to be good for democracy, regardless of your political persuasion. Maybe Bloom v Galloway or something on the undercard next time? Can only be good for Clegg and Farage in the short term. Looks like Cameron and Beaker have bottled it.
Voll Blau Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Can only be good for Clegg and Farage in the short term. Looks like Cameron and Beaker have bottled it. Really feel it's last chance saloon for Clegg to revive the support he had before the last election ahead of the next. Lib Dems in real trouble if he can't do that.
Voll Blau Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Clegg holding his own. Very cool isn't he. Chairman of the debate Nick Ferrari supports Leicester apparently. http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/LIFE-Supporting-Leicester-City-brilliant/story-19992252-detail/story.html
absolutelegend Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Interesting stuff. Quite impressed with them both.
DennisNedry Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 I'm not watching it, but I assume that both sides of the public will claim the person they support 'won' I'll watch the highlights after
lavrentis Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Lucky this debate is on Sky and not the BBC. The chair has done a great job
Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Does Clegg really think we can't have extradition treaties if we weren't in the EU?
Vacamion Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Farage dominating. If by 'dominating' you mean 'sweating profusely', yeah. Otherwise, which debate are you watching?
Guest MattP Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 If by 'dominating' you mean 'sweating profusely', yeah. Otherwise, which debate are you watching? Farage is being considered a comfortable winner judging by most independent journalists on Twitter.
