Embarrassing Transfer Suggestions

You know where Melbourne is and a two second Google search tells you Cipriani is English (if you couldn't have guessed) - you get the point.

The Japanese definitely follow players more than clubs. They'll all buy a United shirt because Shinji is there, they'd all be Dortmund fans before that. It stems from having a crap league of their own but a lot of national pride.

That said, nobody over there knows where Wales is but they know it's where Giggs and Bale are from.

So if a star is big enough and is all over FIFA and coke adverts and magazines they'll follow them anyway.

I know where Melbourne is and have spent sufficient time in Australia to know that there's a big Aussie following for rugby (in NSW more for rugby league, in my experience). To me, and to many others, rugby is a minority sport of no interest, though I appreciate that it's different in Wales, and in Leicester to a lesser extent (I didn't grow up here). So, I've no reason to guess from your comment that Cipriani is English....and why should I have to spend 2 seconds Googling to understand an obscure reference used to sneeringly dismiss my opinion? Particularly when the person using it had already twice distorted my stance in order to challenge it?! Challenge my opinions, by all means, but do it honestly and clearly - you get the point?

Have you also got the point that, as businessmen running a major duty-free chain out of Thai airports, the Thais might be interested in promoting King Power to non-Thai, non-Brit customers, such as the millions of Chinese, Japanese & Korean tourists passing through those airports?

If anything, your other comments above seem to support my original speculative comment....and speculation is all it was, anyway, so I'm mystified as to why you're being so persistently dismissive.

Still, maybe I should take an interest in rugby? I saw my first televised match for years a month or two back, when an old mate wanted to meet me in an Irish pub in Brum to watch England v Wales. Quite enjoyed the experience, so I did!  lol

In terms of embarrassing, I'm surprised no one's suggested Drogba. Seems like the sort of name to get thrown into Premier League transfer talk.

lol

Did someone really suggest Kagawa? He's about Utd's best player at the moment.

I think that I was the first one to mention Kagawa, but did so strictly tongue-in-cheek. I'd agree that he'll end up at a Champions League club if he leaves Man Utd. Amazed he hasn't played more for them this season, as they look better with him in the team.

I suggested it entirely frivolously in another thread, accompanied by a  , as an adjunct to a suggestion that the Thais might want to sign an Asian "name player".

Mind you, I reckon that if I posted a suggestion that the club were going to sign a new front pairing of Laurel and Hardy, someone would take it seriously....and several other people would pop up to display their "superiority" by ridiculing the idea.

Just occasionally, I despair of this place...

Atli Danielsen a midfielder for KI Klaksvik of the Faroe Islands Second Division. This thread could go the other way - those not good enough!!

Good call!

How about Oscar Pistorius? A top athlete and a real sharpshooter who's lethal from close range. Would have fitted in well with the squad last weekend as they were all legless, allegedly. All the sobbing, retching and vomiting might be a challenge for Pearson's fitness and sports science people, though....

I didn't take notice of who named Shinji, but I thought it was someone else other than you; I know you wouldn't be that stupid to suggest someone like him with some seriousness!

If we're going off Football Manager/Championship Manager experiences, then get Ton Ton Zola Moukoko. He was an absolute BEAST!

Have you ever taken any notice of the brand of shop you're buying from in a duty free? I don't think I have. Plus I think I'm right in saying that king power own the entire duty free complexes not just the KP shops. You'd do well to be a reported billionaire out of a handful of glorified convenience stores at any rate. They obviously have a number of other interests outside the shops. I suspect the benefits of ownership to the thais are more to do with increased status within the global business community, and having a bit of fun. Neither of which hopefully require signing an Asian player for the sake of it.

King Power has the monopoly for duty free over in Thailand. Our owners are very well connected to the Thai Government.

It would seem the Thai's are pretty divided on the King Power brand, there was a couple of bombings outside their headquarters a few years back http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/393641-bomb-blast-near-bangkoks-king-power-complex-soi-rang-nam/  - in fact not long after our takeover.

King Power has made international news over the past two weeks with its takeover of the Leicester City Football Club in the UK. The takeover is awaiting final approval from the British football authorities.

King Power belongs to Vichai Raksriaksorn, close friend of Newin Chidchob, who is the most powerful man in the Bhum Jai Thai Party.
