StanSP Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 So the Realistic Signings then soon turned in to a farce with some bizarre names being bandied around. You don't have to name and shame, but there's no doubt in my mind that this summer will be a massive frenzy of crazy transfer suggestions and it's already started amongst this forum anyway! So far: Nani John Heitinga Joleon Lescott Javier Hernandez Rickie Lambert Demba Ba Shinji Kagawa Gylfi Sigurdsson Michu
teblin Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Some great ones there. Shame about Lambert as I think he's exactly what we need.
Fox92 Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Exactly why I don't go in that thread. Half of them are not realistic.
Dan Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 I may have to stick up the list of ridiculous targets that I hooked a few with on Twitter. Namely Southampton fans when I put we should sign Lallana for £5mil. I think we should sign Juan Roman Riquelme. Dan Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Hernandez coming here is absolutely ridiculous. Lambert is highly unlikely but he isn't getting any younger. I don't think Lescott's that stupid a shout as he'll be a free agent but if there's anything in this £30k a week wages rumour then it won't happen. Kagawa is extremely unlikely and I'd be very surprised if it happened but I do wonder if the owners with their Asian links (Asian Football Investments isn't it? Or wasn't it? I'm a bit clueless) would try and make something happen if he became available. He's probably the biggest name Asian player on the planet. Wouldn't come here though surely.
Finnegan Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 If Kagawa leaves united it will be for a champions league club. Quite likely, it'll be to return to Dortmund. We could be owned by the Emperor of Japan and he wouldn't come here.
Dan Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Yeh I agree fully. Dortmund's a ready made move for him.
conLAD logan Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Demba ba isn't as bad a suggestion as you may think, just sticking up for myself hahaha and I meant on loan not to buy btw

I think that I was the first one to mention Kagawa, but did so strictly tongue-in-cheek. I'd agree that he'll end up at a Champions League club if he leaves Man Utd. Amazed he hasn't played more for them this season, as they look better with him in the team, so I'd imagine that he will move (who will be staying at Old Trafford, I wonder?!). What I do think quite likely is the arrival of a (fairly) big name Japanese or South Korean international, given our owners' desire to boost the club - and King Power's - profile in Asian markets. If so, hopefully NP will be given final approval to ensure that any such signing suits his plans.

Finnegan Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 I think they've learned from the Yuki situation, to be honest, and I imagine they're growing to trust Nigel in the transfer market. We've seen nothing to suggest they'll actually impose transfers.

Add his name to the embarrassing list, we can all dream

We've seen nothing to suggest they'll actually impose transfers. Tend to agree. I'd be surprised and depressed if they tried to impose transfers. However, it's a commercial venture for them, the main aim being to promote the King Power brand in Asian markets, as I understand it. So, I could imagine them speaking to NP and asking him if he can find a "name" signing from Asia, as it would give them a big boost via TV coverage etc. If so, and if he could identify someone who'd suit his team plans, it would presumably be in his interests to go along with the idea. I may be quite wrong about that. Maybe they'll be happy for Premier League TV coverage to raise their profile, maybe they're interested in expanding into western markets - or maybe they just want to make some money...
Finnegan Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 You don't need Asian players to sell your product in Asia. They all follow the prem anyway. It obviously helps but it's far from essential and they're Thai anyway. It's a bit like suggesting Melbourne Rebels signing Danny Cipriani was to promote Super Rugby in Scotland. Or France.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Is Heitinga that crazy? I'm not sure, better ask his psychiatrist
Finnegan Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 Is Heitinga that crazy? Not really, no. Out of contract 30 year old. Barely much more unbelievable than Wasyl, to be honest.

It obviously helps but it's far from essential and they're Thai anyway. It's a bit like suggesting Melbourne Rebels signing Danny Cipriani was to promote Super Rugby in Scotland. Or France. Just as I didn't suggest that the Thais would "impose" transfers on NP, I didn't suggest that it was "essential" to King Power for LCFC to buy an Asian player. I've never even been to Asia, but several people who have suggest that particular attention is paid to clubs with players from Japan, Korea or wherever. Maybe that could be perceived as beneficial to the King Power brand, when they have a lot of Asian customers? I know very little about King Power's target customers, but a quick look at Wikipedia reveals that Thailand welcomes 4.7m Chinese, 1.5m Japanese & 1.3m Korean tourists fly into Thai airports annually, compared to just 0.9m Brits (& 1.7m Russians, surprisingly), presumably walking past King Power duty-free shops: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourism_in_Thailand Now, obviously, they're not going to order NP to buy a player from each country to boost their sales, but they might see one as beneficial....or maybe not, purely speculation. Maybe we should anticipate an influx of Chinese and Russian players? I'm afraid that I've never heard of Melbourne Rebels, Danny Cipriani or Super Rugby, so your sneering is a little lost on me there!

We've seen nothing to suggest they'll actually impose transfers. I can't see any of the previously PL-influenced Japanese player coming to Leicester in the near future. The ones in Europe at the moment are all in contracts running up to 2015 or longer, and would be very pricey to buy out. Arsenal's Miyaichi is still injured, but would be worth a punt as a loanee at one point. Also, they don't seem to adapt very well to the English game. I can't think of one who really made it in England's top two tiers (the Yuki Abe case excluded, of course).
Tommy G Posted 10 April 2014 Posted 10 April 2014 i think we should go all out to sign Naismith and make him our number 9
