broughtonblue Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I just bought a DVD recorder from asda, about £45, connect with a scart lead joined to an old VHS player and off you go!
Fox92 Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I just bought a DVD recorder from asda, about £45, connect with a scart lead joined to an old VHS player and off you go! Does it work? I've tried cables before but not a recorder. Never worked for me?
broughtonblue Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Does it work? I've tried cables before but not a recorder. Never worked for me? Worked perfectly for me, done about 30 all together, from my kids when they were babies right up until their early teens, Only a couple of times the colours have come out a bit 'washy' Sorry but don't take this the wrong way, but what did you mean 'not with a recorder?' If it's any help the DVD recorder model no, I have is ONN DS-8643. Think it's about 18 months old now and ONN were asda own brand at the time. You can set up chapters, edit titles etc,
Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 If storing your precious memories on DVDs you've burned yourself please remember that although better than VHS their lifespan isn't the same as pre-recorded ones so it's a good idea to re-copy them every couple of years. Don't ever say that Bellend doesn't care

Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Been meaning to do this for ages, I would hate to lose all the memories. A job for the winter months for me.
potter3 Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 Thanks didn't know that Although in the near future I suspect that people will talk about DVDs as they do VHS now, so another 'upgrade' will be required! Skip the hard copies, you can get a cheap analogue to USB converter and transfer your videos to your computer. Then you can record them to DVD as a backup if you wish, or back them up on an external HDD, or use an online storage service.

You can set up chapters, edit titles etc, I've tried just with basic cables, I read they worked, but I think that's where I was going wrong because they'd be no AC input. Ok cheers I look at the model. Would love to copy all my VHS.

Bryn Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I just bought a DVD recorder from asda, about £45, connect with a scart lead joined to an old VHS player and off you go! Be warned that this can be a difficult process if you have a feeble computer, very easy to end up with syncing problems and stuff.
Kitchandro Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I've been trying to get my video recorded stuff onto my laptop for years in the hope of creating season review DVDs It's such a fvcking hassle though

The important thing, whatever you do, I think is not to rely on one method. Tape degrades (quite badly and sometimes much quicker than you expect), home burned CDs and DVDs have a limited life span, hard drives don't last for ever and even solid state memory can fail (I lost all the pictures of my son's first birthday party after an SD card just stopped working the next day), and I think it was Google (don't quote me though) that lost a shit load of data that customers had stored with them. It's hard to keep on top of, I know. I've got loads of stuff that needs backing up and am just failing miserably to get round to it. I do feel really sad and also exasperated when you see these people on the local news who are pleading for the return of a stolen laptop or phone or whatever because it's got the only pictures of their late mother/kid that died or whatever on it, but I suppose if you don't worry about this stuff you're not going to be in a rush to do anything about it
davieG Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 I've used a GrabBeeX Deluxe for years and had no real problem, all the goals/highlights I used to post were grabbed from my TV using this.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 1 May 2014 Author Posted 1 May 2014 Thanks all. Problem I have is that the tapes are camcorder style tapes and the camcorder gave up years ago so can't feed through TV or other hardware. Was hoping that a shop would do all this for me.

Are they VHS-C tapes? If so I believe you can buy an adaptor that enables you to play them in normal VCRs. Don't think there's an equivalent for the other type (the one that Sonys used, cannot remember the name)
sphericalfox Posted 1 May 2014 Posted 1 May 2014 there's plenty of vintage filth on the net. just let it go....
Guest Col city fan Posted 2 May 2014 Posted 2 May 2014 I've just taken about 200 Videos down the Local charity shop as part of a clear-out. The only ones I've kept are the City season reviews.. literally
