Have a laptop - ASUS x53 series....with Vista.

All the volume settings are on 100%, but the sound is still really low compared to what I'd choose to have.

I have a set of speakers from an emachines pc bought in 2001, but when i plug them in the sound level decreases. There's no manuel volume adjuster on the speakers, and when plugged in the speakers are set to 100% in all fields, but the sound is still relatively low.

Anything I'm missing as to raise the volume when playing music?

Or do I need better external speakers, and if so where can i buy these for good value?

Thanks in advance.

That happened to me once when i put the speakers in the wrong hole. Think I put it in the headphone one by accident.

Also, try going on speaker properties in control panel. Check ta see if its got no weird enviroment on it or whatever.

Our family computer has different user accounts on it, recently i've logged onto my account on the pc and my settings have gone when I logged on it came up with a message like user area restricted in a little box and a computer next to it then it started to count down. Is there anyway I can get my photos, videos etc back however I have saved new photos, videos etc to my account and I want to keep them aswell.

Right just a quick one.

Recently wiped the hard drive on my computer and now the keyboard buttons seem to be wrong.

For example, pressing shift and the number two would normally bring up quotation marks but instead it brings up @. And vice-versa when I press shift and the ' key it should bring up @ but instead brings up quotation marks. It's like everything's switched around- any ideas how to sort it out?

Cheers.

EDIT: Sorted it now.

Whenever I connect a device to one particular USB port on my laptop (be it a memory stick, printer, mouse etc) I'm now getting an error message stating "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. Try reconnecting the device. If windows still does not recognise it, replace the device."

I've tried taking 'em out and putting them in again, but still get the message.

Thing is, the devices are all working fine in the other USB ports, which makes me think it's a prob with this particular USB port, rather than the device/s (also seems strange it should be like this with all of them). Any suggestions...?

Yep sounds like a bust port. You could buy a multiport and put it in one of the working ports. Only cost a couple of quid.

Hmm, I know I could go that route but I'm trying to avoid leads - not add more. And it was the one USB port on the side of my lappy that's nearest the printer, etc. Fooking irritating. Tempted to kick up a fuss as it's still under warrenty, but dunno if I can be arsed to be without it while it gets sorted. :@

I sold my old broken laptop to a mate for 50 quid thinking it wasnt under warrenty, but it was! He sent it off and it only took about 4 days to come back fixed! In those 4 days take up a new hobby. Like, er, knitting or drinking lots of wine.

The horror of imagining how stressed out I'd get over try to learn to knit doesn't bear thinking about. I'm not the world's most patient person. Someone would be sure to get strangled with the wool - most probably me. :S

4 days without a laptop?!

I've had Dell computers for the last six years now - two desktops, two laptops - and I've never had any problems with service when I've needed it.

The first laptop needed service quite often - the touchpad system and mouse buttons were prone to breaking every 4-6 months. It was never too big a deal, at the first sign of trouble I'd call Dell and they'd be around within 48 hours to replace the pad.

Funnily enough, the second laptop gets a lot more heavy usage than the first one ever did - and I've not even needed to call tech support once in over two years. But I'd have no qualms about doing so if I needed to, they've always been brilliant for me.

I'm seriously considering buying an 15", 2Ghz, 200GB Apple MacBook Pro with FinalCut Express 4 & Microsoft Office for Mac.

I've had enough of other laptop PCs starting slowly, anti-virus programs giving me the creeps and causing the growth of grey hair, as well as some harddrives just not working anymore.

Your thoughts on that machine?

Worth a go?
