When typing the cursor suddenly just jumps back to a random place for no reason whatsoever. Any reasons/solutions for this?

Laptop or PC? If its a in built mouse, give it a good clean. That sorted it for my laptop. If PC, make sure surface very flat and clean. Another possibility is that your mouse is f**ked!.

My computer has mysteriously decided to stop emitting any sounds at all. The speaker system works fine, there are no device conflicts and Windows rashly and inaccurately claims that the sound device is working ok.

What the cocking hell is going on?

Goto audio control and mute/ unmute. Somtimes that works. Or Set a restore point. Then...

Uninstall all sound drivers (via device manager), and restart. Then I would go to Microsoft Update and check any hardware updates there.

Now that I haven't tried, cheers. The only other thing I haven't done is fiddle about with the drivers. At least if I don't get it sorted, I'll have another good excuse to buy a new motherboard.

Can anyone recommend some good backup software, that includes some element of data recovery? I'm getting an external hard drive and basically want to be able to set up scheduled backups of pretty much all my files. I believe some software also includes 'disaster recovery' where you can restore the entire lot if your computer fries. I think some packages also give you the option of 'time slipping' (no idea what the 'proper' terminology is) backwards so if you do get a virus/attack you can just 'rewind' your system by 10 mins or so? No idea if that makes sense to anyone....??

Lookydo suggested Genie's Backup Manager Software Linkage which looks like the kinda thing I'm after but it only seems to be available in the States - struggling to find it over here, unless I'm looking in the wrong places?! :dunno:

Oh, tis for a PC (my lappy) running Vista.

Right, when using Photoshop 7.0 and the pen tool to cut out objects, how can I just cut round it instead of making a big block like this?:

You need to PM more because I never come in this thread.

The big Maxtors come with back up software installed that'll just map your hard drive to the external HD.

Or, you could use the free online store advertised in another thread? https://www.adrive.com/

Well you should come in here more! :P But point taken... thanks.

Hmm, but i've got a Western Digital drive and want some kinda software I can customise more. Ideally I want something which will allow me to back up my hard drive and then have partitioning of some description so I can back up my memory sticks too it too, whilst keeping them sectioned off. If that makes sense? :dunno:

Adrive looks useful for certain situations - just spotted that thread. But not sure it's quite what i'm looking for.

Think i might have to try and source the software I mentioned in my last thread from the US. Can't believe there's not something similar that's readily available over here though. Keep feeling I'm missing something and not looking in the right place.

Couldn't you just create a folder for each zip drive you want to back up and then drag the files into it? I'm guessing any zip you have is at most 2-4gig? :dunno:

I just went to open another internet up and my toolbar at the bottom decided it wanted to be bigger than it normally is, how can I get it back to the original size?

Posted
There isnt a line at the bottom, help :)

So its double the size it should be? Right click on the toolbar, and make sure that the lock toolbar option isnt ticked. You should be able to resize it how you want after that. Like a normal window (near the top of the toolbar the cursor will change to two arrows). Click and hold when curser changed and drag down.

If you haven't done so make sure you right click the toolbar and tick 'Lock the taskbar'. Should stop it from happening again.

And for the ultimate experience in pissed computing, don't forget to set your taskbar to 'Autohide' so you can't find it when you've had a few.

Hours of pure unadulterated entertainment right there.

Hello.

I own a very old iPod. One of the originals from 2004 or something like that. Anyway it is 20GB and full of music however I don't have all this music backed up on my computer as it has been sourced from various different places.

If I buy a new iPod how do I transfer the library on my current iPod to a new one?

Please don't say don't buy an iPod. I'm going to. If that makes me a fool so be it. My primary concern is not losing my music collection.

Thank you very much.
