My down-arrow key has for some reason assumed the tab function.

It's getting on my tits, do help.

Hit it. and if that doesn't work........

I found this but it is someone trying to make their down arrow act as tab. i thought maybe you could do it in reverse. It sounds extremely complicated if you don't know what your doing so Monks idea is probably the best.

I got a thing telling me to update Java and it seems to have an advert for openoffice on it. What is it, is it worth having? I already have office 97. Does it have any invoice templates on it?

Hardly any of my programs will open and it's f**king annoying me now. Itunes most of all. And everytime I start up my laptop I have to start a new 'explorer.exe' task because nothing will show up. This happens everytime.

Laptops and Computers are designed to make everything in life stressful and difficult.

When you open explorer.exe does it close automatically. if it does, you have a virus and I'm sorry but back up all your things and reinstall Windows :(

When I log in nothing comes up on the desktop, but after doing the new task thing it comes up again. Sometimes it just randomly goes but I can deal with that. Not opening some of my programs is annoying though.

Exactly, same happened with me. Must be the virus.

Do you keep having to press Ctl Alt Delete and Run explorer.exe ?

Yeah... I've had that for a while though and it hasn't been too bad. But over the past few days some programs just won't open.

Ok, I would seriously recommend reinstalling Windows because you never know what the virus will do. That's if you have the disc.

FFS,dont tell someone to they have a Virus when they may not have!!!!! :banghead:

I wouldnt do anything drastic like reinstalling windows until you have looked for an answer properly

its probably just your PC has forgotten what to do with the file extension .exe (do a google search on how to fix i.e xp .exe fix)

actually, you can get it from here, just look down the list (EXE File Association Fix (Restore default association for EXE files)

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

Just download it,extract the REG file, and run it,it will modify your registry to Re-associate .exe files with programs

Or it might be that your Registry is a bit screwed up,in which case it may be a case of using the repair disk

I had this problem before and took it to Grantham Computer Store and they told me what to do and what it was.
