When I'm on google and I search for something, the results come up as usual, but then when I click a result, it redirects me to a random website.

Something like copy-book comes up.

I think it is like a fake 'google', but whenever I type google into the URL it always takes me to this fake 'google'.

Any help in getting rid of this would be appreciated.

Sorry to sound cheeky, but could you not just use another search engine :P ?

I can't get XP to boot on my laptop.

My laptop froze up, so I turned it off, not it loads indefinitely at the windows XP screen.

I've tried using the recovery console, but chkdsk gets stuck at 27%.

I don't want to have to re-install because I don't want to lose all my stuff, any help?

I've downloaded the updated firmware for the R4 DS only I can't open it because windows doesn't know what program created it ( :dunno: ). What do I do now?

Ok, for a while now my laptop has been in use doing whatever, msn, football manger...etc. I bought it in March.

Very often it just turns off, like the power cables been cut or something. When turned back on again it's fine.

A mate suggested that the CPU could be overheated, and after downloading SpeedFan, it tells me that the temperatures of my Core and Core 2 of the CPU are just over 50 degrees Centrigrade, and this reading is accompanied with a flame symbol.

I take it that this is the problem, but how do I cool the CPU down?

It's a bit annoying as when using my laptop as part of a presentation or something and it just turns off I feel like a right pillock.

You dont need to open it (if its like the M3 Real) you need to load it on the memory card in the R4.

Unless you are trying to unrar it. Whats the file extension called?

Anybody know any good Laptops which have at least 2.4GHz, 3gb ram and 250gb hard drive under £800??

I am guessing that you don't demand much from it seeing as you didn't mention graphics car so get the one they are advertising with 3gb at Comet or Curry's and buy an external drive. The size of internal hard drives is irrelevant these days seeing as you can pick up 1.5Tb for around a ton. Boom - you're sorted for £450 and you can send me the change

I got one of my nephews to sort it for me tonight, thanks anyway.

I have an External Hard Drive, and I have used it before, but it is hit and miss whether it appears when I plug it into my laptop.

Basically the only way I know of looking for it is by going into - My Computer. And hope the icon is there and i'll click on it and either put stuff onto the External Hard Drive or take stuff of it.

Is there another way of accessing this somehow?

Also can anyone suggest why it might be doing this?

It's connecting because when I plug the USB socket into my laptop the External Hard Drive powers up and a light appears on the External Hard Drive.

Well I somehow have it showing up in - My Computer now, but when I try and open it a message appears saying The File or Directory is Corrupted or Unreadable.

Yeah cheers, See ya hundreds of pounds of music

And pictures.

Computers are great...When they fooking work with no problems :@

-Luckily I think I have already transfered most of it to my Desktop PC...I think and hope.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

What my Laptop or External Hard Drive?

My Laptop? Yes I tried that, and it didn't work, but I did eventually get it to work anyway.

External Hard Drive? You can't, It just turns on when you plug it into the Laptop.

Of course, None of that matters now anyway because it is apparently corrupted or unreadable.

Now...Another problem - I've installed Football Manager 2009, It was working fine, Then I got into my first game, but then a message appears saying "No Sound" and the game closed down/crashed, It didn't appear in the tab at the bottom of the screen so I clicked the Football Manager 09 icon and it said "Already running" - I've asked in the past but my sound doesn't work for some reason its been suggest I install new drivers for the sound, e.t.c, which I have tried but don't think i'm doing it right.

I was going to see if I could fix it last night but was going out so didn't bother, I'm going to have a look in a minute.

But - There is no need for sound on this game surely? All you hear is Crowd noise/effects anyway, so why is it such an issue.

As I said i'm going to have a go at seeing if I can play anyway (Maybe look in the options and see if I can turn sound off) but just wondering if anyone can confirm you need sound anyway.

Looking for laptop recommendations. Mine seems to have reached the 'unreliable' stage - it's lost its wireless connectivity completely and can't seem to find it again no matter how much I try to prod it into action. I've only had it a couple of years and (other than the wireless) I've not had any problems but the build quality is shoddy. It's now got 2 USB ports that won't work, the CD tray falls to pieces each time you open it, etc, etc. It's my 2nd Compaq/HP and I've not been particularly impressed with either. I realise the wireless can probably be sorted if I contact HP, return it to them (no longer under warranty tho), etc, etc, but to be honest I'm lazy and the other minor niggles will still be there.

In fairness, it gets lots of use and abuse - it's on for upwards of 12 hour stints at times and I regularly fall asleep on it, drop it off the bed/settee etc. As a result, the build quality is pretty important so if anyone can suggest a particular manufacturer that seems reliable in this respect I'd be grateful.

Other than the internet, usual work-related stuff (office apps), listening to and storing music, odd bits of photoshop work, etc, I don't need anything particularly fancy. I am incredibly impatient tho, so speed matters and I like a decent looking screen. Oh, and the battery life has been shocking on the HPs - not sure if other makes are likely to be better - it's not a huge issue but can be handy to have a longer battery life if I'm using it outside in the summer. Memory size isn't a major factor - I mainly work from memory sticks and have an external drive I can backup to if needs be. Don't want to spend a fortune, but would rather spend a little more for good reliability/build quality and aftercare than have to keep buying new regularly.

Suggestions...? Other considerations...? etc, etc... :dunno:

How much you wanna spend.

Well it's kinda flexible. As little as I can without compromising on quality? :dunno: Up to a max of £700ish, I suppose. Less if possible. :D
