sphericalfox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 If you painted or drew the players I'd give you props. But a splash of paint over a photo extract does not make art. Soz, not at that price.

sphericalfox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 If you actually went to the effort of looking at his page you will see he has painted them. Yes I have. He's extracted a photograph keeping the lines, then painted over it. Worth £14 squid? No.
Captain... Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Yes I have. He's extracted a photograph keeping the lines, then painted over it. Worth £14 squid? No. It doesn't really matter how he got the effect, if you like it then it's worth it, personally I think it is a little too "digital" for my tastes, but that doesn't mean it isn't art.
Southern Fox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I bought 2 last week Look good value to me and a nice item The question is when will they arrive
kingcarr21 Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I did think that it looks just like a photo with some paint added to it. Still nice though. £25 for (what im assuming) a poor quality white t shirt with it printed on is a bit steep. Nice to see ours cost more than arsenal and hull

Fair enough. I think it's a stretch to call it art. But art it is by definition. If people like it, then it's up to them to pay the cost. Just sharing my opinion for what it's worth.
Mack Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 £15 quid for a print of a photo shopped image seems a little strong. You dont even get a frame.
sphericalfox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Check out Stanley Chow or Dan Leydon for some original artwork. Fairly certain they do commissions too. (I have no affiliations with either of them)
This Charming Man Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I like it, and what a brilliant moment to capture..... However, I'd have liked a smaller print so won't be getting one.
steveherbe Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I like it, and what a brilliant moment to capture..... However, I'd have liked a smaller print so won't be getting one. Buy it, scan it, reduce it, send me the original (second hand) for free - sorted!
65RosesFox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Mahrez looks like he's got one of those silly little ponytails on top of his head. Therefore I'm out.
MC Prussian Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 I'm a big fan of the artwork, but it looks a bit daft on a tee.
Saxondale Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 If you painted or drew the players I'd give you props. But a splash of paint over a photo extract does not make art. Soz, not at that price. *Cough* Andy Warhol *Cough*
sphericalfox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 *Cough* Andy Warhol *Cough* His art had symbology. This has as much depth and real feeing behind it as a puddle. And as we are just promoted, seemingly opportunistic.
Saxondale Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 His art had symbology. This has as much depth and real feeing behind it as a puddle. And as we are just promoted, seemingly opportunistic. And it sold for millions of pounds. This is a fifteen quid print which, aesthetically, is quite nice. I don't think it's fair to deny it any artistic merit on either of the basis mentioned.
Strokes Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Personally art to me is a one off, an original if you like. Not reproduction.

I don't think it's fair to deny it any artistic merit on either of the basis mentioned. Art is subjective, so I'll leave that conversation for another time and relative thread. Personally it's a bit weak and lacks imagination.
Houdini Logic Posted 10 June 2014 Posted 10 June 2014 Art is subjective, so I'll leave that conversation for another time and relative thread. Personally it's a bit weak and lacks imagination. I don't think he's intending to nominate it for a turner prize to be fair
