Darkon84 Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 Mums-fvcking-net I can't take anything they ever say seriously. They're just a bunch of loud, feminist, bullying idiots. How they can comment on the right way to debate is beyond me, when their own preferred tactic is to shout the loudest. Jog on!
Rincewind Posted 2 July 2014 Author Posted 2 July 2014 It is not a case of blaming somebody. It is a case of Mp's being accountable for their actions as other workers are in other professions. They are doing a job on behalf of the public and getting a decent salary. They are elected on this basis and if they cock up I want to be able to make sure they know about it. I do not want them to sit there taking the piss out of the ordinary man on the street. That is you as well as me. The majority of MP's from all sides are career MP's. They have done no other job. They went to the best schools, have the best medical care and live in the best areas. I have nothing against that but I expect them to represent all citizens not just a select few in order to gain favours.Laughing at the plight of disabled people is disgraceful and shows they have no empathy or compassion for others.

So basically you want to be able to put them up on a pedestal and throw verbal rocks at them. Let's not beat around the bush, you want to see them shamed and embarrassed purely as a means of deflecting attention away from your own failings. It's quite sadistic, really. A bit cultish, kind of caveman-esque. Very Base level. Not particularly sophisticated. A bit too transparent to fool anyone who doesn't want to be fooled.

MooseBreath Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 Sounds like a troll. As much as I enjoy having you following me around the forum trying to get my attention, you're going to have to put a bit more effort into your bait if you want me to bite.
Alf Bentley Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 Rapid fire questions, questions from social media, more open questions... If all they want is to see politicians struggling, occasionally tripping up and saying silly things in the face of an onslaught of aggressively bitter pedantry, then they should just listen to the today show on radio 4 because they do that all the time. No doubt provides comfort in the form of somebody to blame for people who are that way inclined, but it doesn't ever really achieve anything. Exactly. Improvements to PM's Questions might be possible, but Mumsnet don't seem to have thought this through at all. For a start, "rapid fire questions" and "more open questions" is pulling in two diametrically opposed directions....and who would decide which questions from social media would be put to the PM? They are also confusing Parliament (accountability through indirect democracy), public debate and TV, surely? I suppose some sort of regular public meeting could be held where the public could put questions to the PM or other politicians, though who'd decide who would attend and which questions would be asked would be an issue again. Anyway, don't programmes like Question Time perform that public/TV debate role? Unfortunately, TV soundbite politics is going nowhere, even if some political campaigning will switch to on-line, social media etc. The political parties each have a series of messages that they want to get across and will seek to shoehorn those messages into soundbites attractive to TV news editors so as to fire them into the brains of the public. Meanwhile, few people watch political programmes other than the news (if that) - and TV news editors can only allocate limited time to political issues, as they have to cover everything else within half an hour: wars, crimes, extreme weather, economic stats, celeb deaths etc. There's a lot wrong with politics, not least the fact that very few people can be arsed to try to understand it, but arranging for a few self-appointed people's tribunes to force politicians to respond to Tweets, or to provide open answers to open questions, or to summarise the state of the nation in 30 seconds is not the way forward. Mumsnet could start by (a) looking at why so few people engage with politics these days (No, it's not just due to Yah-Boo exchanges at PM's Questions); (b) campaigning for changes to the hand-in-glove relationship between politicians and corporate lobbyists; © campaigning for more powers - and accountability - to be devolved to local communities (though how well this would work given long working hours and other demands on people's time, I don't know).
Rincewind Posted 2 July 2014 Author Posted 2 July 2014 No Moose. Reread what I put. I want them to be accountable for their actions and decisions as any other worker in this country is. is that too hard for you to understand? If you cocked up in your job you would be sacked or repremanded. MP's are on a lot more money than the majority of Joe Public so should do there job properly and efficiently and not spend time in the bar in the morning then fall sleep in the afternoon. If one of their constituents has a question or problem they should listen to them not ignore or laugh at them. Do you think it is OK for a front bencher to mock the disabled then? If you do you are sicker in the head than I thought. No offense intended. But I do not believe that you are as callous as your FT persona appears.
Finnegan Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 Why don't we just have a studio debate where the best of mumsnet line up against the best of Westminster? Now that would be ****ing hilarious. Watch all the gobby slobs with too much time on their hands get their pants pulled down in public. Say what you will about MPs, most of our front benches know their way around a public debate.

Sorry ken, I must have missed this thing with the mocking of the disabled. You'll have to remind me of what has happened and link me to some decent sources of info if you want my opinion on it. But I thought we were talking about PMQ? I think everyone would like to see a bit more accountability in politics, but having politicians take questions from mumsnet users on Twitter doesn't immediately strike me as a particularly effective solution.

Some MP's need their pants pulled down in public. It has happened before. While they act like schoolboys I will have no confidence in any of them. While they only have to answer easy questions I do not think they will worry. While they are not accountable and are protected by tradition it will carry on being jobs for the boys.
Guest MattP Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 I actually enjoying this PMQ'S today and I don't think any of them are behaving like schoolboys or in an immature way? What do you think Ken?

Captain... Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 I used to enjoy PMQs a lot during the Blair years he at least seemed to respond to the questions with content and not just snide remarks, then Brown made it terminally dull and painful to watch, Cameron and Milliband just seem to take pot shots at each other without ever actually saying anything, so I've not watched it for a while. I think the format is a great idea, but I do wish it was a little less staged and they banned the braying, just excruciating.
Merging Cultures Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 You know what they say...you're only as young as the woman you are sexually harassing on tinder. Which in your case is 45+

Amazed at the Blair comment, he for me was the poitician who started the avoidance of questions.
PAPA LAZAROU Posted 2 July 2014 Posted 2 July 2014 It's like suddenly finding out that your mum and Dad are not for real. That moment in your childhood when all trust goes out the window because you have turned that corner in maturity and realise you are as intelligent and perceptive as those you unquestionably looked up to and believed in, and they fall short in your eyes. The greatest gift television ever gave us was to be able to see what utter child like idiots mp's always have been via pm's question time. It was like being the little boy in the Hans Christian Anderson tale who suddenly shouts out the truth that the king is not wearing any clothes. It has been a great leveler and it was only allowed after an mps vote to let the camera's in. A testament to their own vanity that has shot them so far up their self serving ars*s that it beggars belief. The most astonishing thing is they still don't get it ? they have no idea how low the electorate hold them. And long may that continue.

PAPA LAZAROU Posted 3 July 2014 Posted 3 July 2014 given the electorate go ahead and vote for them anyway, I don't think they care. Oh but they do hence the massive UKIP vote.
The Doctor Posted 3 July 2014 Posted 3 July 2014 Oh but they do hence the massive UKIP vote. That won't carry over in an actual election, besides, what you've said makes no sense. Politicians caring wouldn't cause a big protest vote.
Mike Oxlong Posted 3 July 2014 Posted 3 July 2014 I"d throw in Rob Ford to spice it up a bit. And allowing a few of those Eastern European style punch ups would make it better too. Would quite like to see a few of the public school types biffing each other on the nose.
