MONreborn Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 Has anyone brought a house recently and can recommend, or advise against, any firms? I'm buying for the first time in oadby and there are so many firms with bad reviews and I dont have the time to chase solictiors up all the time!
Tommy G Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 We used Thomas Flavells in Hinckley, they were so so. Purchase was mainly held up by the vendor pratting about but our solicitors weren't too proactive and charged us £900 for the pleasure.
danny. Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 Used these guys in Hinckley http://www.david-bendell.com - very good and they weren't expensive either - think the fees were a bit under £700 and that was for a leasehold (so always more) and included all the fees/credit checks and chapel tax insurance thingy
David Guiza Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 I work at Roberts Rose Partnership, opposite the Cathedral in town, and would naturally recommend us
stripeyfox Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 All universally bad in my experience. Slow to respond and you only get things moving if you chase them ALL the time. I am moving at the moment and we had a situation where both solicitors have been waiting for three weeks for the other to do something but neither ever picked up the phone to the other to chase it. Absolute money for old rope.

Nice bloke We used them, they were pretty good - no snags Last season was particularly enjoyable with John, hoping he's not going to get his own back this season though! Glad to hear the positive feedback also!
Stuliasz Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 My job involves dealing with conveyancing solicitors on a daily basis. While there are good and bad, the ones to be really aware of are those which take your money, and then get you to do a lot of the work. Not going to mention names but if you are asked to do anything that you think should be your solicitor's job, the alarm bells should be ringing.
Raj Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 Last season was particularly enjoyable with John, hoping he's not going to get his own back this season though! Glad to hear the positive feedback also! must admit John Rose and his secretary were always quick to reply to issues i had so all good from me.Do you remember a Kev Smith who worked there??..Your probably too young...top bloke and massive city fan

Do you remember a Kev Smith who worked there??..Your probably too young...top bloke and massive city fan Yeah I've only been there about 6months, I'm sure I've spotted his name dotted around for a meeting this week though. Hopefully another City fan joining the staff.
Saxondale Posted 28 July 2014 Posted 28 July 2014 I could recommend the firm my mum works for but it'd be pointless. Basically I'd suggest picking a local family firm who have been around a while. There are cheapo conveyancing specialists around who are good value but can be prone to cocking things up.
lcfc278 Posted 29 July 2014 Posted 29 July 2014 Avoid 1st Property Lawyers like the plague - unless you don't mind your house purchase taking 2 months longer than it should have or the conveyancer never answering your calls and emails or doing what they say they will do within a week or 2. Worst decision ever.

FoxesAreBlue Posted 30 July 2014 Posted 30 July 2014 I used these last summer to buy my flat, a lady called Sue Somethingorother. Thought they were good, not the cheapest but very good and answered all of my 1,000,000 questions each day.
