Some Stupid Benefit Sanctions

You just don't help yourself. On here or in life.

To be fair, I only found out at 5:30pm that day I was starting at 10:30pm, and by that time many beers had been consumed, so I just followed suit after I got the text telling me I was working lol

As far as I'm concerned those are all valid (albeit harsh reasons).

I thought you had to apply for a job or 3 jobs everyday or something like that. There should be no excuse for not doing this, even if you're busy one day you can just put the date down next time you look for one. There are so many jobs on the jobsite/other sites online so even if it's rubbish or unlikely you'd be considered, fire a cv off or do an application and put it down.

The second one, wasn't it because he didn't contact them to let them know and now he could just be lying?

With the third one again, I'm pretty sure they explain how it works. It seems stupid but that job could fall through or you could be let go or not be capable of doing it. All they ask is for you to send a couple of cvs/apps of every day.

Bottom line is they require a couple of hours effort from you and for you to follow their instructions.

Valid how?

The first one, you're essentially being punished for not sitting on your arse for two days and sending the application off later.

The job interview one he's talking about is the one in the OP - where they agreed to do their appointment on another day so they can attend their interview.

As for the last one, what the job centre is doing there is promoting wasting companies time. What do they do if they get offered an interview: "sorry, I've already got a job starting in a weeks time, but the job centre said I had to apply for jobs despite that until I officially start". It's ridiculous.

You're doing yourself no favour drinking that much beer that early into the day.

Maybe you want to take a look at yourself in the mirror, realize that you've got it in your own hands, cut down on alcohol massively and shape up a bit.

It was an away game, it's what you do! It was the first time I've had a drink since the World Cup final.

No, it's what YOU do. How many pints did you drink that day?

And did you know your employer could ring you up at any moment during a day with a work request?

5 and a half.

Only when events are scheduled, and as I'm the only one who actually does my job as the other one doesn't turn up anymore, then I'm always gaurenteed to work.

Nobody really cares about if you're drunk/tipsy/hungover there as 2 of the staff members manage the pub next door to it

It sounds a weird gig tbh so I'm a bit doubtful, he seems to be on 0 hours but he can be on call the same day for something he as described as a glorified cleaner. Not sure why he doesn't know his schedule at least a day before.

If he's got plans like this then he should be letting his employer, know especially with it (I assume) being the weekend and knowing he could get called in. The guy gets everything he deserves if I'm being honest.

Normally my manager texts me at beginning of a week with my hours, but last week she, in her own words "thought she'd text me" my hours.

That's great. So in essence, that's an invitation to turn up hung over, anyway.

And I don't blame you for that, you seem to have pretty lax working rules and you're happy to exploit that to an extent. But you do realize working whilst being intoxicated is only that much fun as long as you're not found out.

I can see this turning into one vicious circle when you stop being motivated enough finding another job, really.

I don't want a job, I want a career. If I can get this one on Thursday then I would finally start to be able to build one for myself.

Its always been there but they seem to be picking any reason to do it. If a person is sanctioned they are not classed as unemployed.

Like you said it was easier when I was on it. Three job searches a week. Now it is seven.

one person was sanctioned for not applying for a job on Xmas Day.

Is Christmas day a week?  You see Ken you set yourself up repeating this shit.  Bloke applying for only 6 jobs in a week instead of the 7 required blames the fact that one day in that week was Christmas, and the media idiots twist this into a stupid headline which you then spout on here.  Think for a minute man!

Are you studying in your spare time?  Volunteering?  You can develop skills in ways other than paid employment.

Not doing anything, I don't have the means of paying for a course, and I'm at that point now where I'd rather be paid than volunteer.

You want a career but aren't prepared to put in extra effort to get one? Christ on a bike Lamby!

You are an idiot.  There are free courses out there.  Even Ken can find them.  You said yourself you cant get the job to develop the skills you need to get the job - volunteering is the way forward.  I wish you luck with your interview, but to be honest if all you bring to the table is some casual cleaning work, then I wouldnt count on getting it.  Only needs one applicant to have bothered doing something more interesting with his time and you are out.

Pretty much every civilised country - because we don't live in a world where work or starve are the two options. If there's work to be done, why not make that a permanent job and actually create jobs for people, rather than using them and throwing them aside?

No, it isn't - the largest chunk of Britains benefits bill is pensions at just shy of 75bn - 47% of the entire welfare budget. Still, you're just a typical right-winger, oblivious to reality and ignorant of what benefits actually are.

You are the ignorant one. Why do you think people pay their national insurance direct from their wages? No one gives you a pension it's not a benefit , that is why you have to pay into it for thirty years minimum to qualify to receive it. Still you are just a typical left wing ignorant to reality day dreaming socialist.

So in your world of work or starve two options, can you tell me why the third option of living off the back of the workers is acceptable to those that do work ?  What is wrong with the third option of doing what work the government tells you to do in order to get benefits ?

Exactly,it's all about doing something slightly different or more.My daughter is doing the Duke of Edinburgh award,it's doing voluntary work each week,Hikes organising events.its a pain for her and time consuming .However at 14, she realises this might make a huge difference in the future when faced with a job selection scenario between several other candidates.i repeat she is 14.

You can afford 5 and a half pints before 5:30 but you can't pay to improve your education. I'd rather be paid for doing nothing but if you need experience go and get some in the voluntary sector.

The nation doesn't owe you anything.

What you really need is to know the right people.

Really?  Who are these people?  Do they employ lazy ****ers who cannot be bothered to do anything at all to improve themselves?  I seriously doubt it.

I find that a bit sad really. 14 and you ought to be doing things you enjoy.

Well rather than pissing your money away on booze, rail tickets and away match tickets, why don't you invest some of that money into doing a course? You want a career to fall into your lap without putting an effort into achieving anything that will help you get into a career. You might want to look up the word sacrifice in the dictionary. It's something we all have to do to get something we want every now and then, sometimes it's a small sacrifice, sometimes a big one, but occasionally you have to make them. So maybe, just maybe, rather than wasting money watching Charlton get spanked every other week in some far flung town t'up north, you might want to invest in your future.

lol that made me laugh, I don't know whether you would take that as a compliment or a dig at your intelligence, Ken!!!
