Dean Hammond..

There was a moment that just epitomised his value in a defensive sense. Hazard had the ball on the halfway line and was looking to turn but Hammond completely stuck one on his calf. He gave away the free kick but there was no danger to us as it was on the halfway line and Hazard was left feeling a little uncomfortable.

With James and Drinkwater I've sometimes feared they're too nice but it's good to have Hammond to come in and do the dirty work. That said, if we sign Cambiasso I'd imagine Hammond will be almost surplus to requirements but for what we paid for him we've easily had our money's worth.

If ever there was an example to illustrate why we don't have great depth in CM, bringing on GTF to play there at Stamford Bridge must be it.

We need far more depth in CM especially as we will look to play 5 in midfield away from home.

To be fair if any team had three CM's injured they would be struggling to find replacements. Also if we had three injuries in any other position we would be struggling as well.

We have just been extremely unlucky to have three players injured that play in the same position.

However if Pearson does consider playing five in midfield at times then maybe one more is needed. But if he's happy to play 4-4-2 at stamford bridge i can't see him playing it at many or any grounds this season.

Can't really see how any of us can have a fair opinion of him, last year he couldn't get into our 'championship' team because of better players/ different tactics.

After Drinky went off against Everton I was worried, but he stepped up.

Only time will tell,

Only time will tell?

He can be judged by his two performances this season where he has looked solid against two of the top five premier league teams. So based on those performances he should have no problems to cope against lesser teams.

Obviously he might have off games, but every player will. But i'm confident he can do a job in the middle and for me up to now he thoroughly deserves his place in the starting line up even if drinkwater and james are fully fit.

Think he was underestimated by the fact that he was kept out of the team last year by two excellent CMs, now he has been given a chance to prove what he can do and he's impressing.

I'm going to give credit where credit is definetely due. Hammond was proper yesterday, right up to the point he had to come off. He made a step up I genuinely didn't think he would. I don't think he's capable of that level of tempo and competition for more than 60 mins though. Hence why a Cambiasso/Hammond swap combo could be enough against the tougher teams, given a bit more sharpness up front, and Vardy to spook some defenders.

There was a moment where he got mugged of the ball and his lack of pace really showed! However, his performance is testament to the professionalism of Hammond himself and the quality of NP and the rest of the staff. Really impressed!

I got on his back a lot last year and said he wasn't good enough. Very happy to say I may be wrong.. He has been immense and deserves all the credit he gets for the first couple of games.

If anything Hammond and King's performances have showed we do have good strength in depth; not in terms of numbers but in regards to ability.
