suffolk fox Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Cannot understand why we have signed him when he cannot even get a place on the bench? His crosses could have proved invaluable against Burnley because our set piece delivery is very poor especially from corners. I believe Albrighton is a better player than Knockeart so why he can't even make the bench is baffling. Is he injured?
Babylon Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 We are rotating the squad and will continue to do so with the bench. He will be back on the bench soon enough and then it will be down to him to take any chance he gets on the pitch, which he hasn't done so far really when called upon. We are also going to need him and Knockaert come Jan when we lose Schlupp and Mahrez.
suffolk fox Posted 6 October 2014 Author Posted 6 October 2014 That's a fair point Babylon, but and there is always one, what games if any, has he played in to warrant being dropped or even given a chance? He didn't even play in the Cup farce against Shrewsbury. I believe he should be at least given a chance, waiting until January is unfair on him.

He hasnt looked fit in the u21 games he played in and in his sub appearance at Chelsea, he didnt look anywhere near match fit either. It was well documented about his low fitness level when he arrived and following his injury in pre-season, I suspect the management want his fitness levels at maximum level before considering him for first team action. In the position he plays, 60, 70 or 80% fit just wont do.
Ric Flair Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Truth be told he didn't look that good pre-season and picked up a few knocks which didn't help. He'll get his chance and he'll have to take it otherwise he'll be gone.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 He will get his chance I am sure soon. Think NP is just being loyal to some extent to those that got us up in the first place. Am looking forward to seeing Nick Powell, Tom Lawrence and Danny Simpson too
Soar Fox Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Nick Powell is starting to look like a bit of a strange signing to me. Not included in any match days squads apoarently not even training with the first team. Surely Man United sent him out on loan to get some proper game time instead of playing for our development squad.

The likes of Knockaert, Simpson, Upson, Albrighton, Was, King and ventually Hammond / Sclupp will all be on and off the bench and have to share those spots. None of them have particularly done anything to warrant missing out on a match day squad, it's just the way it is now we have more players. To cement a place they will need to show more than Albrighton currently has in the time he's had in games. That's harsh on him and he's only been used a small amount, but you need to take your chances when they come. Knockaert didn't do much when he came on, so you might find those two rotate on the bench in coming games.
JIMMYWILLIS Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Who was going to get on the end of his crosses against those big defenders?

To think we got Albrighton instead of Dyer and Upson as our star defensive signing.....Pearson may be God in some people's eyes but from where I sit - while he's mostly a good manager - he's still got some way to go yet!

Of course NP is still learning. He's not managed at this level before so naturally he'll make mistakes. The God complex comes from us having years and years of dogshit, he pulled us out of it, left, we were dogshit again, he came back and sorted us out...again. I still think Albrighton and Upson will prove decent signings when fit. We certainly could have done with Upson in injury time on Saturday.

Two weeks ago you were raving about Pearson and his philosophy and how he'd changed and improved as a man and a manager.
Bamba's Babes Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 I started this thread at the start of the season and was lambasted. http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/96911-albrighton/?hl=albrighton

So what's your point? I suppose you were one of the ones who slated Drinkwater or Vardy or James when they weren't instantly great. How have people not realised that it can take time for some signings to settle into the team, whilst some can start brilliantly.
Manwell Pablo Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Nick Powell is starting to look like a bit of a strange signing to me. Not included in any match days squads apoarently not even training with the first team. Surely Man United sent him out on loan to get some proper game time instead of playing for our development squad. As I've said to the Inckleyknowitall, It is possible for a club to sign a young player on loan to effectively asses his ability and see if he's worth a punt, it's done all the time. We were left in a dire situation in August, in where Andy King was our only fit midfielder and we had to play a central midfield with 0 combined league appearances at one point. Pearson obviously looked to make sure this didn't happen again so along with Cambiasso who will obviously always be competing for a first team place Powell was probably bought in to add depth, play some academy games so our staff can have a look at him, and if we have a repeat situation like the one we had in August, he can be called upon to do a job, he's also pretty adaptable having played center mid out wide and up front in the past, so he's a good young lad to have around. If development staff rate him he might even get a few games later on in the season even if we don't suffer an injury crisis. But as I've said before there was no chance he was going to come in and dislodge established first team players immediately and that was never the intention I don't think (despite what might have been said, football managers talk a lot of shit)

Babylon Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 But wouldn't the Man United staff have wanted him to go out and play competitive football? They might have wanted him to, they might also have wanted him to be in and around a premier league squad, rather than playing in the champ where they aren't going to learn a lot more about him.
Soar Fox Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 They might have wanted him to, they might also have wanted him to be in and around a premier league squad, rather than playing in the champ where they aren't going to learn a lot more about him. Yeah maybe. Hopefully he'll be starting to push for a place on the bench soon, as he's a player I was quite excited by when we signed him. Pearson very rarely gets it wrong with his youngsters when they come in on loan.
Manwell Pablo Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 But wouldn't the Man United staff have wanted him to go out and play competitive football? Maybe they just want rid and loan was what was on the table. It was done fairly late doors in the window wasn't it? Maybe we were the best offer they had. Could be numerous explanations, but how's he going to compete at 20 years old with the lads we've got playing now, immediately anyway? We're leaving the likes of Albrighton out of our 18, regularly, Powell's a young lad with little more than a seasons Championship experience.
Bettsj2 Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 But wouldn't the Man United staff have wanted him to go out and play competitive football? I doubt they give a fvck. Their transfer policy appears to be spend massive on big name players. Powell is finished as a Utd player.
