Well done to Hollism, absolutely dominating performance there.

Enjoyed the Foxestalk game but definite revisions necessary for the next one. Blinds need to be a lot quicker; Nathan who was sitting out for a few hours nearly placed because his stack was holding on in there :P

Happy with 2nd and a little profit, great stuff from Ken today as well.

Cheers mate. You played a blinder and another day it would have been yours.

RE: revisions for next time

We mentioned a shorter clock and/or blinds increasing at a faster rate. Not entirely sure if the latter is possible though. Nathan was sitting out for the first 10 minutes, played for about an hour, then it took another 2 hours for him to get blinded off lol

Ken played really well. I know you said you weren't ever so confident but you weren't far off the money (effectively bubbled).

I wasn't sure how to play. I am normally tight in the early stages but with deep stacks it seemed OK to see the flop cheaply. Never really hit anything. It was difficult to judge bet sizes because of the stack sizes and cheapness to call. Even 3BB was worth it.

Just had a couple of games of 50/50. Last hand raised PF 3bb with ak wascalled by one player. flop came rag TT/ I went all in because of the pair and other player had KT. Went out in 10th.

On reflection not a great move. I was just try to build a few chips. The came stops when 5 are left and the kitty is split up depending on chips.

Had a good run the previous nights and thought II was playing right. Now thinking I was just lucky.

Our pub league final is Wednesday night. After 10 weeks of playing I'm top with a starting stack of 18k. First place pays out 180 quid, and 5th pays out 50! Not bad for a pub game!

Sorry buddy I fell sleep woke up at what ever time it was and seen two people battling it out, I think I had about 500 chips left... haven't had a day off for a month so literally just nodded off without knowing, will be awake next Sunday though as I finish on Friday :)

It was a good game while I was awake, would agree with the blinds being a bit quicker next time especially with 20k starting chips.

Well done to the winner, ken was right in there before I nodded off.

Can anyone suggest good resources for a new player looking to take up Poker? I'm guessing there are thousands of places to go to learn but I wasn't sure if there was any stand out ways of getting started properly?

I think the best move of the night goes to Ken too with that hero call with KJ :D

Pokerstars has a poker school and they do free tournaments for cash, you can also play for free as well without depositing any money... I think the best way to learn is by just having a go on the free tables and you will soon learn the game then it's just a case of mastering your way of playing.

To learn the basic rules it is best to play the 'play money' tournaments and real money freerolls. Pokerstars Skill School is a great resource. Once you feel you undertsand how the game works, the twoplustwo.com forums are fantastic for improving individual aspects to your game. The more you play, the more you'll learn. Good luck!

I'm online now if anyone wants to play :)

Thanks both of you, have dipped my toe (again, for the first time in ages) tonight and think I'll continue.

I do some heads up with play money or normal games depending on the internet connection when I'm out. Not a good idea playing real money when in a pub. I've been on the school at Pokerstars. You get tickets just for taking part. Watched one the other week which was live and the tutor was in a cafe. He went through hands in a tournament and got those watching to participate with comments. He was making strange raises like 999. Interesting hour.

I was starting to win at Sit N Go's but the last few games have gone out early which should not happen but if you pick up pocket Aces or a premium hand it is hard to  fold to an all in. Also if there are no self destructive players during the first couple of levels your stack does not look so good. I'll have another go tonight. Only want a few VPP's to go up to Chrome and may play more in the new year.

Well done to Ash for the online game and 2nd in the final night at the Kings Head. I think I went out with AA. Raised preflop and was called. Flop was OK Went all in and the other player called and hit a straight. with 9 10. That's poker for ya.

If we're talking about Aces getting cracked, let me share with you my worst ever bad beat...

This was in the £220 event at The Goliath in coventry earlier this year. Until that hand I always thought it was just a saying, but it genuinely made me feel sick  :(

I know a John Davies. Manager of the Kings Head.

Did a bit better today. Finished 1312 in a tourney and cashed 0.25 dollar. And came 3rd and 1st in sit and go's.

The 50/50 are ridiculous. Because 5 places are paid as soon as it reaches 5 left. you get players waiting for others to be knocked out.

Wow, odds of that happening? 2%?

Yeah each player has a 2.17% chance of winning.

Also, if Hero has pocket aces on a 10-handed table, the odds of another player having pocket Aces and beating you are...    6790/1

Sounds like you've spent quite a bit of time researching that! I bet you have nightmares about the number 6790!

Well last night was a ****ing disaster. Having started the final table with a massive chip lead after smashing the league over the last 10 weeks (only player to win more than once in 10 weeks and I won it 3 times, won over £100 more than 2nd place, 5 cashes in 9 entries) I was the first one out. The best hand I got all night was AJo and it was the hand I went out on.

An absolute Donkey Fish piece of shit (I normally love fish) Called my river bluff with Ace high then folds to a shove from the eventual winner when he had TOP TWO PAIR on a dry board thinking he was making the lay down of the century.

I am going to be on serious tilt for a while after last night.
