cjslcfc Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Exactly what the thread title says. There's been enough chat about Pearson. Should he stay, should he go? It's going to be discussed to death. What I want to discuss is whether a lot of the players are up to it. After all, we've seen a lot of poor individual performances this season. I'm not willing to write players off completely and there is time for them to prove otherwise. However, I'm sure we can have formed a valid enough opinion after a third of the season. It may turn out to be wrong but I'm interested to see who, if any players at all, people think are good enough to help us establish ourselves in this league. My list is as follows: Good enough already: Cambiasso Morgan James Schmeichel Mahrez Ulloa Potential: Schlupp Moore Drinkwater Vardy Undecided (leaning towards not good enough): Knockaert Wood Undecided (leaning towards good enough): Wasilewski King Not good enough: Nugent Konchesky De Laet Hammond Not seen enough of them to form an opinion: Albrighton Simpson Powell Upson Hamer Opinions please. Let's not get too heated about it though...
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 I'm not at all convinced by Kasper at this level (yet, I hasten to add).
cjslcfc Posted 30 November 2014 Author Posted 30 November 2014 I'm not at all convinced by Kasper at this level (yet, I hasten to add). I was a bit optimistic about Kasper. He is slowly moving down in my estimation. Mainly due to his insistence on remaining in his 6 yard box for crosses.
Dr The Singh Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 A manager has a big impact on players, he makes the decision, he is ultimately responsible, he is gonna be the failure
MC Prussian Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 A manager has a big impact on players, he makes the decision, he is ultimately responsible, he is gonna be the failure His influence reaches up to a certain point. What's with all the good intentions and preparation when it's up to eleven players on the pitch to make sure they are disciplined enough to follow his instructions? Also makes you wonder whether Morgan is currently worth the captain's armband.
cjslcfc Posted 30 November 2014 Author Posted 30 November 2014 A manager has a big impact on players, he makes the decision, he is ultimately responsible, he is gonna be the failure I suppose it was a bit stupid of me to expect people to not talk about the manager. The players are big enough and ugly enough to take responsibility for their own performances. So is the manager for his performance. I did want to discuss players though.
MC Prussian Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 I was a bit optimistic about Kasper. He is slowly moving down in my estimation. Mainly due to his insistence on remaining in his 6 yard box for crosses. Which is down to him not having too much confidence in his own defenders in front of him, I think.
cjslcfc Posted 30 November 2014 Author Posted 30 November 2014 Which is down to him not having too much confidence in his own defenders in front of him, I think. Do you think a bit of that is reciprocated by the defence as well??
Dan Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Good enough; Mahrez, Cambiasso, Ulloa Struggling, but eventually will be good enough; Vardy, Drinkwater, James, Morgan, Albrighton, Moore, Wasilewski, Schmeichel Not good enough; Hammond, De Laet, Konchesky, Schlupp, Nugent, Wood Undecided; Knockaert, King, Powell, Hamer, Upson, Simpson Ulloa probably won't be a popular shout at the minute but I don't think he's the problem, at all.
Gary Eatfood Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Which is down to him not having too much confidence in his own defenders in front of him, I think. But if he had little confidence in the defenders in front of him wouldn't that make him more likely to come off his line and deal with crosses? He should be dealing with the cross for the 2nd goal today and giving his defenders confidence that he can come and take the pressure off when he can.

cjslcfc Posted 30 November 2014 Author Posted 30 November 2014 Players dont get sacked, managers do, I wonder why?????????????????????????? Maybe because you can't sack 23 players all at once? It's simply the easiest option.
MC Prussian Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Maybe because you can't sack 23 players all at once? It's simply the easiest option. And also the least costly.
Dr The Singh Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Maybe because you can't sack 23 players all at once? It's simply the easiest option. Maybe because a manager can change a course of 23 players, rather then sacking all of em, just a thought????????
MC Prussian Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Maybe because a manager can change a course of 23 players, rather then sacking all of em, just a thought???????? Sack you, Singhy!!
Dr The Singh Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Sack you, Singhy!! I'm too expensive to be sacked!!!!
kingfox Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 We would simply be a better team with De Laet & Konchesky out of the starting 11. We would simply be a better team if we didn't have to rely on, having players like Knockaert, Nugent & Wood on our bench. The only player I can say so far who has impressed me this season is Wes Morgan, yes we conceded three goals today but I watched the highlights on Football First, and the amount of clearances, blocks & headers he made was truly brilliant. If he had actual Premier League experience alongside him, will use someone like Robert Huth for example that for me would be a serious partnership. I look at the rest of the squad and for consistency levels they have been a shambles, Liam Moore started well then started to struggle & got dropped, Konchesky tbh looked good in the first couple of games, now has looked a weak link again, the performances of the midfielders have been so up & down, especially the wingers of Mahrez & Schlupp. While Ulloa was scoring right, left & centre now he can't score for shit, while Vardy works hard but suddenly his finishing has become lacklustre again. Some players will get there, but some especially the one's I've mentioned on the top line aren't cut out for it.

Dr The Singh Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 I'm sure there's a clause somewhere... There are not enough prostitutes to meet that clause!!!

peach0000 Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Agree with most of them but not Kasper who I'm undecided on, Konchesky hasn't been to bad for me and Hammond isn't a lost cause either
Mark Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Ulloa isn't good enough in the position he's being asked to play. Whether he'd be any better as the main striker, I have my doubts but it'd help if we had an alternative to Nugent to partner him with in that scenario.
kingfox Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 I'd also point out, the likes of Moore, Wasilewski, Konchesky, Drinkwater, King, Albrighton & Vardy in particular are good squad players, but for me not good enough to be in the starting 11. De Laet, Hammond, Knockaert, Nugent & Wood all need to get binned. Schmeichel, Morgan, James, Schlupp, Cambiasso, Ulloa & Mahrez are good enough to start, but most of which need to start showing some consistency.
eastendfox Posted 30 November 2014 Posted 30 November 2014 Too generous. Mahrez, Schmeichel and Ulloa haven't been real premiership quality this season though they've had their moments. James and King have shown signs they might have it, Cambiasso clearly has quality but the system has to work for him, I reckon only Morgan has really been good enough throughout this season. But what to do? Change all your players and try for a new side, or hope some come good? Biggest need on January 1 is a striker who can hold the ball up and pass to others consistently. At the moment our possession figures are pathetic and we will definitely go down if they don't improve.

It was like the Alamo at times. Familiar scenario? Getting over-run so having to soak up pressure? The other players id keep would be Mahrez (needs better players around him), Schlupp, Moore and Drinkwater.
