davieG Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 Former England cricketer Tom Graveney has died at the age of 88. Played his final innings but it was a good one.
Jimothy Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 2016 Bruce Forsyth (he didn't look good from the Express newspaper article a few days back, though he only recently had a fall) Paul Gascoigne Englebert Humperdinck Way to early to be posting a 2016 list Wymesy. They could all kick the bucket before then. Gotta wait until a new thread is started in late December.

Alf Bentley Posted 10 November 2015 Posted 10 November 2015 Former German chancellor Helmut Schmidt has died at age 96. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/10/helmut-schmidt-former-west-german-chancellor-dies-aged-96 Assumed he was long gone already. Remember making the German class laugh at school (1970s). Teacher asked "Now, boys, who's the famous German named Helmut who's visiting the country?" "Helmut Schoen" (German football manager), I answered in all innocence. The class cracked up......well, you get strange people in a Kentish Grammar School. The green screens have come out for jockey Pat Eddery, died aged 63, RIP One day you're under starters orders......next day you're off.
Guest MattP Posted 11 November 2015 Posted 11 November 2015 Eddery has died? That's upset me a bit. He was still racing when I started going, met him a few times at Leicester at he was such a lovely man, we bunked off school to go in about 1999 and he played cards with is once in between races. I feel old now, me Pat and Barney (classmate) playing cards on the course and I'm the only one left :-( He rode Dancing Brave as well Eddery, the greatest horse these Isles had seen since Frankel came along, worth of watch of his Arc win, sure it's on you tube.

I thought of you, with your racing interests, when I saw the news. Assumed you'd have already heard (was on lunchtime news yesterday). Aging and death are so cruel....but all the more reason to determinedly make the most of (comparative) youth, health and life. A cliche, but can't be overstated. Yesterday I completed another complaint letter to the hospital where my Mum died 10-11 months ago. Despite multiple requests, they still haven't explained why she suddenly had a 2nd stroke just as she was about to be discharged to rehab, what care she was given etc. I still don't even know whether anybody was with her when she died. Have got Jon Ashworth MP involved now, hoping they respond better to pressure from the powerful than they do to reason and morality. Heading off to London shortly to briefly oversee the latest phase in my Dad's slow final decline. On the other hand.... Saw "Brooklyn" last night - absolutely outstanding film about love, duty v freedom, home/family v self-development/adventure. Also, City are flying high, there are exciting places to see, interesting people to meet, great fun and adventures to be had....

Rincewind Posted 14 November 2015 Posted 14 November 2015 One of my favourite non PC shows. A lot of people missed the point that it was anti bigotry and it was showing Alf Garnett to be one that is laughed at not with. Unfortunately there were people saying 'He's right wat e says ainee?'

Exactly, Mitchell was a jewish labour supporter, you'd never think that watching an Alf Garnett rant. Shame theres no chance of 'Til Death Do Us Part' or 'In Sickness & In Health' ever getting repeated on TV, most episodes are on YouTube though.
Rincewind Posted 14 November 2015 Posted 14 November 2015 I think Johnny Speight was a Labour supporter too. And the actor who played Garnetts son was related to Blair so not sure what he was.

I'm a whorehouse queen, all alone and lost For a life of Cyn, I have paid the cost When I pass away all the people say Just another gal on the lost highway Just a bunch of keys and a jug of wine And a woman's thighs makes a life like mine... (with apologies to Hank Williams)
