LCFC_Nige Posted 2 January 2015 Author Posted 2 January 2015 I'm going to try and get tickets for Goodison. Will be interesting to see what that's like.
cjslcfc Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 Is it worse than Chelsea? Yes. At least Chelsea sang one or two songs
iancognito Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 I'm going to try and get tickets for Goodison. Will be interesting to see what that's like. Similar. The Scousers who struggle to remember the lyrics to Liiii-ver-pool Liiii-ver-pool have less successful brothers and cousins across the park who struggle with the words to Ehhh-ver-ton, Ehhhver-ton
Guest claude_leic Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 What did you expect? Top 4 grounds are always silent when they play mid/bottom of the table teams. It will be the same at Goodisan. I have been to both Anfield and Goodisan quite a few times and they are really noisy for big games, but absolutely silent for standard ones.
Dan Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 I'd imagine there will be a similar thread with simalar comments about the Old Trafford experience in a few weeks, the home of the prawn sandwich brigade! Man Utd sounds a hell of a lot better on TV than Liverpool does IMO.
Trelleh Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 Apparently it's some kind of practice drill to open and remove the turnstiles in the event of a need for a mass evacuation. They have to do it to comply with safety standards or something? I would imagine the tannoy announcement would almost be 'the incident' and then the safety crew react accordingly. Not sure why it's only Anfield that seems to have to comply with this? Maybe other clubs do it but not in the same way?? When I heard it on the laptop, i thought everyone in the ground was going to get up and start cutting shapes!

I have been to both Anfield and Goodisan quite a few times and they are really noisy for big games, but absolutely silent for standard ones. Not quite 'really noisy'. I managed to jib a ticket for United's away end at Anfield a few years back when I was at uni. Dirk fvcking Kuyt scored a hat trick and it was still mostly silent. They are utter beans. Thank god we have some fans willing to sing because if I had to endure that toss week in week out I'd give up.
CosbehFox Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 If I was a Liverpool fan who supported them for years, I'd be cringe at their support every game. It goes from the ridiculous of full kit wankers/half&half plonkers to tourists wandering around without a clue why to go. We came across Eastern Europeans, Americans, Welsh, Irish and Asian who just simply didn't have a clue where they were post match and how to get back towards Liverpool City Centre.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 When they all sang You'll Never Walk Alone, I was stunned. I can't put into words how incredible, chilling, and (honestly) intimidating it was. After that, there was nothing but silence. Genuinely quieter than Coventry, Walsall, Huddersfield or any other away day I've ever been to. I was gobsmacked by how poor there support was. Speaking to the stewards at half time and they said that the away fans are the only ones that make noise. Some Liverpool fans we spoke to after the game reckoned it was only on Champions League games that they make any noise. Too many tourists. If they're building a new stadium then they ought to have the bottom tier on every side for STHs only, and stick all the tourists above them. Also I'm completely stunned at how many people were wearing them fvcking 'Half-Scarfs'. Being right at the backof the away stand I couldn't hear it even if I'd wanted to. Too busy singing our own songs
ousefox Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 As I mentioned in the other thread, I could hear clearly what NP shouted at one point from the opposite stand. Definitely the worst atmosphere I think I've been in. Absolutely silent. When they scored it was just a polite applause around me.
Silverdaz Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 I was very dissapointer with the atmosphere not been to the ground for ten years and was expecting great things but they were so very quiet
Donut Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 You always sing more as an away fan. Theres less of you, youre up for it because youre in the minority in the ground, and theres a hardcore all gathered together. The day we were on the overcrowded terrace at Peterborough, the atmosphere was buzzing. Im reliably told that at the other end of the ground, they couldnt hear a ****ing thing we sung all day because of the accoustics of the ground. It just seems louder because youre right in the middle of it. This half scarf thing annoys people far too much. If youre a famous club thats won 5 European Cups, you have fans all around the world. Some of them might have one chance to go to Anfield in their life. So let them enjoy their pictures and their day. Who cares. Why does it offend so much? What were you expecting to see yesterday for a league game half way through the season with barely anything riding on it from a Liverpool perspective? flares and missiles for the visit of Leicester?
CosbehFox Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 If you claim to be the best in the land, I'd expect them to show it week after week. You certainly don't see Dortmund when they play Freiburg sit there and politely clap. For tourists? It's a symptom which has delivered out of the average man being priced out. If tickets were affordable, the tourists wouldn't get a ticket. Liverpool are potentially affecting their 'brand' by developing their ground into a total morgue.

Yeah but its an English football thing, not just a big team thing. Atmospheres dont come up to the level you see in other countries. Its just a symptom of our football. Agreed on ticket prices, football is very overpriced.
CosbehFox Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 I agree with your sentiment but Liverpool are a special deluded case who love to bang on about their atmosphere and their famous ground.
fuchsntf Posted 2 January 2015 Posted 2 January 2015 The old Liverpool, atmosphere and goid cross-banter, died a death over 10years ago. I wonder, if its a mixture of twaining glory, Hysel stadium hangover with the older generation. The Hillsborough carastrophy. and last years kick in the teeth, and simply the ol'Pool powerplays are now non exsitent. The passion in the crowd has been simply and slowly eaten away. I am also a Dortmund fan, even in Borrussias dark days and now they create one hell of an atmosphere.Liverpools was only there to see and feel when they were successfull.Even Schalke at half-cock is better than Liverpools. City, Palace, and maybe Newcastle, have always tried to deliver a fan atmosphere even with only 10000 fans.
