The Anfield Experience

Operation Anfield - I was in the home end, block to the right of Leicester fans, seemed inappropriate to play that during play, must have distracted the players.

It was painful holding in my joy when the second went in. It was particularly satisfying after two southern Liverpool fans behind me were banging on about how we didn't look like doing anything and they could see why we were bottom, it felt like they hadn't noticed the first half at all!

Not a peep from them around the hour mark mind :)

I'd imagine there will be a similar thread with simalar comments about the Old Trafford experience in a few weeks, the home of the prawn sandwich brigade!

Think you're in for a shock mate

They're all Billy Big Bollocks with YNWA but then after that, nothing. We provided the atmosphere, they just sat there like muppets even after they're second goal.

Jesus, I remember you in a past life!

Absolute library but I sort of expected that from knowing fans of other clubs that have been there in the last few years. Only surprise was that YNWA wasn't even that loud.

Our end on the other hand... Fantastic! Everyone was on it today, great unison across the whole section and some great chants. I'd go as far to say it's the best away end I've seen us have in terms of noise and support.

One of those days where I'd have loved to have heard and seen us from the home section at times!

Interested to hear what attendees thought of the Anfield experience/ atmosphere today? It's traditionally famous for its atmosphere, songs and fortress like nature (well it was anyway) but what did you guys think?

I appreciate Liverpool not playing well at all today and so their fans frustrated and theyre in a bit of a lull but interested to hear what the atmosphere was like?

How does it compare to the KP and other grounds? Whole ground singing or just sections?

And lastly what was that Anfield Exercise over the tannoy all about?

Apparently it's some kind of practice drill to open and remove the turnstiles in the event of a need for a mass evacuation. They have to do it to comply with safety standards or something? I would imagine the tannoy announcement would almost be 'the incident' and then the safety crew react accordingly. Not sure why it's only Anfield that seems to have to comply with this? Maybe other clubs do it but not in the same way??

You'll Never Walk Alone was class but other than that it was quiet - like most/all home grounds. I do like the ground though, it is my favourite and everything about it is great.

Last time I went to Anfield was in the home end against Chelsea after they had won the 2005 Champions league (brother is a Liverpool fan)

Atmosphere was good but gradually you notice its full of tourists and the prices are ridiculous for both normal and season tickets, hence the silence.

And the King Power stadium is some sort of cauldron is it?

Atmospheres in England are pretty muted. Its just the way it is.

yeah there's not many atmospheric grounds in this country but this was something else. there wasn't a single section willing to sing at all, i genuinely heard one chant and that was in the 86th minute when they won a corner and managed a massive 3 "liiiverrrpoooooolllll"s before we went back to silence. horrific.

our ground, like most, is quiet but we have sk1 going for 90 minutes, the part of the family stand next to the away end and of course l/k1 having a go at the away fans for long parts. there was none of that.

i think the fact there was still people in full kits holding their scarves posing for pictures 10 minutes after full time in parts of the home stand says it all really.

I think that it only applies to the teams with a particular format of turnstiles ..... The operation is basically for them to remove the turnstiles to allow a quicker exit.

When they all sang You'll Never Walk Alone, I was stunned. I can't put into words how incredible, chilling, and (honestly) intimidating it was. After that, there was nothing but silence. Genuinely quieter than Coventry, Walsall, Huddersfield or any other away day I've ever been to. I was gobsmacked by how poor there support was. Speaking to the stewards at half time and they said that the away fans are the only ones that make noise. Some Liverpool fans we spoke to after the game reckoned it was only on Champions League games that they make any noise.

Too many tourists. If they're building a new stadium then they ought to have the bottom tier on every side for STHs only, and stick all the tourists above them. Also I'm completely stunned at how many people were wearing them fvcking 'Half-Scarfs'.

All the comments posted above are similar to what I thought about Anfield when we played there in the 90s. It's a myth. Yes yes, the Hillsborough tributes, Shankly Gates, YNWA etc is worth a trip for the tourist but if you go there expecting more, you'll be disappointed. I used to think it was because we'd won there but was told it's always like that, it sounds as if last season's title challenge has changed nothing.

As for YNWA, it's better to go to Celtic Park for that.

Can you blame the half scarves for wanting a souvenir of the visit of the mighty leicester?
