AKCJ Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 True, but we've not exactly looked solid. I think goalkeeping has a lot to do with that stat. Hamer has been fantastic and Schwarzer played well today by all accounts.
Benguin Posted 24 January 2015 Author Posted 24 January 2015 Can't wait to see highlights, first game of the season that I've had to settle for Radio Leicester!

Phube Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 Last time i checked, the GK counts as part of the defence. Just 'Multiquoting' to say the exact same thing!
AKCJ Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 Last time i checked, the GK counts as part of the defence. Ignoring the sarcasm, yes it does. But Leicester fans have been questioning the back four rather than the goalkeeping so, as this thread has been designed to defend the likes of Konchesky and De Laet (who have been under intense scrutiny), I'm merely pointing out that it's a misleading stat.
AKCJ Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 Can't wait to see highlights, first game of the season that I've had to settle for Radio Leicester! Just watched them on the BBC website. Kramaric and Schlupp both missed sitters. Moore and Drinkwater make horrible mistakes for their penalty. Referee inexplicably booked Kramaric for diving despite it being a stonewall penalty.
Benguin Posted 24 January 2015 Author Posted 24 January 2015 Just seen as well, Both were penalties IMO

AKCJ Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 You do know they were saved, not missed? Another silly question, yes of course they've been saved but in both occasions the goalkeeper shouldn't have been given the chance. Not every goal conceded is a goalkeeping error. Fantastic goalkeeping in both situations from Vorm, but both Kramaric and Schlupp should have scored.

MooseBreath Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 You do know they were saved, not missed? What's the difference?
Babylon Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 True, but we've not exactly looked solid. I think goalkeeping has a lot to do with that stat. Hamer has been fantastic and Schwarzer played well today by all accounts. We've looked a damn sight more solid than we did early season. To put that down to just the keepers, who have just been average and done what's expected is unfair.
theessexfox Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 We can't discount penalties though they still go against us, however harsh some may have been. Free kicks too.
jimmeh Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 So conceding a goal from non open play means your defence is fine well played moore! Great tackle
Guest Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 So conceding a goal from non open play means your defence is fine well played moore! Great tackle No, just not as terrible as miserable feckers like you think
Xen Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 What's the difference? If a shot is 'missed', then I'd say the fault lies with the striker. If a shot is 'saved', then it's either a fantastic bit of keeping, or the striker making it easy for the keeper.
AKCJ Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 We've looked a damn sight more solid than we did early season. To put that down to just the keepers, who have just been average and done what's expected is unfair. I'm not putting it just down to the keepers. This defence is still making mistakes but the keepers have generally kept solid. The keepers have been a massive improvement from earlier on in the season whereas the defenders have also improved, just to a lesser extent. Hamer and Wasilewski can hold their heads high after this recent run, Konchesky can find himself lucky to be a part of a defence that's rarely conceding and Wes and Danny Simpson have been average and nothing spectacular. Schmeichel will do well to play again this season.
AKCJ Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 No, just not as terrible as miserable feckers like you think The Liverpool ones were born from poor refereeing but Liam's tackle today is a mistake and no worse or better than any other mistake that leads to a goal. Penalties do count, a fact that seems to avoid some people.
Benji Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 Wasyl's a beast - so impressed with him this season.

I wasn't saying our defence was fine/perfect/whatever, I was pointing out that it's far from the calamity that some, such as jimmeh, would have us believe.
Bagworthblue Posted 24 January 2015 Posted 24 January 2015 We are in the premier league! But just how many saves have our keepers had to make in that 540 minutes? Not a great deal considering the league we are playing in. You can't put the recent lack of goals conceded all down to the keepers. The defense and the way we are setting up for games as well as the goalkeepers chipping in is the reason we haven't been conceding goals. No team looks 'solid' game after game in the premier league. All teams are capable of creating chances against any team in the division> Do people think 'being solid' is conceding no chances game after game? Why can't we just accept that we have done well defensively lately without trying to find reasons to suggest we were still crap.
Mark_from_USA Posted 25 January 2015 Posted 25 January 2015 ... Why can't we just accept that we have done well defensively lately without trying to find reasons to suggest we were still crap. For some on here, the word "Leicester" means "crap". People have such an inferiority complex at times. Luckily for us, at least the squad doesn't seem to share this view.
HoustonFox Posted 25 January 2015 Posted 25 January 2015 I think as a back five they have looked a lot more of a unit and more well organized. Still the odd mad block from Wes but Was seems to read the game so well. I know the keepers haven't had loads to do (Hamer and Schwarzer) but what they have done has been solid (like Flowers) . You can't underestimate the value of a calming and organizing influence in goal to help the defenders out. Watching both of them vs. Schmeichel's ranting and raving (aka "pashun") is like night and day. I think Kasper is probably our most naturally gifted keeper but he's very much a individual or a character and Im not sure he fits. I bet he would be awesome at a European team though. Still love him for his contribution but the team ethic and organization is so much better now.
Dan Posted 25 January 2015 Posted 25 January 2015 I've definitely noticed improvement recently although wouldn't go as far as to say I'm confident in our defence. I believe the main problem with them to be their generally poor technique and composure on the ball as much as anything which leads to them being under pressure more often. It's quite a decent stat but I don't think you can really use Spurs' goal as something the defence could do nothing about seeing as it was a stupid foul for the penalty that lead to it. I felt more confident with Schwarzer in goal than I did the other two. He's so imposing.
