Bit of shameless advertising here really. If it really has to be deleted, so be it, but I was hoping it to perhaps get some feedback and idea for new products.

Red Fox Gifts

Is the wife's new business. We've been trying to think of something for a while and this is the first of the ideas which has come to fruition. Without boring you with it, we have three young children so my wife chose to give up work, leaving us on one income, but with the wife having a tax free allowance to use and all that and not being able to claim any benefit, - well, why not?

Coming soon are some football related type gifts, probably with a decent football badge and then a personalised name in scrabble tiles, in a box frame... but could do with some more ideas if anyone can think of something. Its all along the crafts type of line, so I know some of you will hate it.

Would really appreciate some feedback, facebook shares/likes, and generally just getting the word out there.

If you like/share the 'giveaway' you might even win one of our scrabble rack 'LOVE YOU' items, which should save you a few quid come Valentines Day.

Further - a foxestalker made the logo (welcome to come forward and take the credit if you like!) which I'm massively thankful for.

Cheers all - and I hope you're all having a good weekend.

There is a web site, the name escapes  me at the moment, that deals with hand made stuff and contributors are able to sell on. I wanted to sell my book there but it did not seem suited for the site. It is mostly for handmade stuff. I'll see if I have an old email off them.

I have liked and shared the page on my timeline.

Just looked at the price for "LOVE YOU", maybe cheaper and more fun to buy scrabble game and some glue, and make your own

Yes, that would be cheaper. There lies the 'profit' hence this being a business not a hobby.

I'm pretty sure it might end up costing you almost the same anyway since the markup is not huge.

For the record, most finished goods you buy can be made (often to a worse standard) for less money. This is how goods driven businesses make money.

Thinking about it. I've probably misjudged the audience. A better bet on here would be to ask for tips on becoming officially separated from the missus so she can claim a shed load of benefits. Not sure why I expected constructive feedback/advice on an actual business from what is largely a community of can't work/won't works.

Yeah. Looking in to it. Mainly selling face to face at the moment, fayres and farmers markets but doing a bit online through facebook and eBay.

Yeah we did something similar a few years back, we mainly just supply to local shops now. Etsy was great for online but eBay wasn't so much.

It takes time to build a product business from nothing, be patient and good luck :)

You'll need to speak to ken then.

Don't ask me. There are places where stuff like what TPH  has can be flogged. Some people have more money than sense and buy home made gifts to keep up with the Jones's. They buy it as a Xmas gift which is passed on to various relatives and friends each year. :) Also fetes and car boots are a good place to start.

Good luck anyway TPH.

I'm all for people trying to set themselves up in business, especially with an original idea. Looks like it's worth a shot, (particularly like the scrabble art frame). Good luck, hope it takes off.

Good luck with the business.

I can't offer any constructive advice, but it looks pretty good to me.  I might even be tempted to buy something with valentines coming up.  My missus doesn't like red roses, so I'm always on the lookout for an alternative.  I think it's more to do with not finding it very romantic me running into Aldi & spending £3 on a bunch of shit roses.

It may work out being more expensive than doing it yourself, but I would prefer to spend a few quid & take the hassle out of it.  I'm a gardener & I still find it quite amazing that people will pay me what they do to cut their grass.  It would take them 5 minutes to do themselves........but they would rather pay to have someone do it for them.  I'm not complaining & I often say that my business is built on people's laziness.

I have a Facebook page & although it isn't the focal point of my business it does allow me to post a few pictures of what I do & I have received some work from the family of friends.........the friends of their friends & so on.

Anyway.  I like the look of it & good luck.

Etsy is a good place to start for something like this. I don't have a massive amount of experience but I'm in the same situation as you & my missus came up with something like this last year. We did a lot of social media advertising & promotion. Her idea was Christmas related but despite being seasonal it went very well. Also look into doing things like craft fairs etc to sell & to promote. I know it's not always possible fitting it around the children & work but word of mouth is the best advertising you can get.

Also sell the products on eBay & Amazon. People may well look at your other products from there. I've probably told you basic stuff that you already know but good luck & I hope it goes well.

Made our first real effort to sell face to face really, albeit it very informally at a small gathering by invitation and took about 150 so very pleased. Does seem a lot of work for the income but there we go. Its something for my wife to do and makes a few quid. We have a few ideas to develop over the next few years b

The major problem is that there are loads of bored housewives setting up this type of business, good luck with the enterprise but it won't be easy.

Agreed.

The next one will be better. I wouldn't describe this as a stop gap but it will certainly have its shelf life.
