davieG Posted 10 June 2008 Share Posted 10 June 2008 Matt Elliott, the 39-year-old former Leicester City and Scotland star, has been appointed assistant-manager of UniBond League Premier Division club Hednesford Town by new boss Dean Edwards. Elliott (pictured) will bring a wealth of experience to Keys Park, having making over 700 Football League appearances and made eighteen appearances for Scotland. Epsom & Ewell were Elliott`s first club, playing in their youth team. He was subsequently picked up by Charlton Athletic for a trial and was then given a one-year contract. He made one first-team appearance in a Coca-Cola League Cup game. He was then loaned to Torquay United where he first met Edwards. Following the loan period he was given a three-year contract, and then moved onto S****horpe United for two years and Oxford United for a further three years. When he was 28 he moved to Leicester City and spent eight seasons with the Foxes, apart from a three-month loan period at Ipswich Town. Elliott made his Scotland debut against France in a 1998 World Cup warm up game against France and for the three World Cup group games he was selected as one of the substitutes but did not get onto the pitch. He retired in 2005 and had a spell living abroad. Now based back in Leicester, Elliott is keener than ever to get back into football and is grateful to Edwards for giving him the opportunity. Bryn Posted 10 June 2008 Share Posted 10 June 2008 Good to see him get a place on the ladder - that's what Steve Walsh should be doing rather than spouting off everytime the Leicester job comes up. Hopefully he's a top manager one day and maybe takes charge of us.
Jay Posted 10 June 2008 Share Posted 10 June 2008 Is he still drinking so much as he used to on mornings before games? What you mean like when he had to be helped onto the bus the day we got turned over at Wolves because he could hardly walk?

demon_dog Posted 10 June 2008 Share Posted 10 June 2008 Wouldn't be surprised to see a pre season friendly arranged with them at some time in the future. Good luck Matt, at least you are going about things in the right way, unlike big mouth Walsh.

Simi Posted 15 June 2008 Share Posted 15 June 2008 Nice to see he's putting in some work before demanding he can sort things out for us. Unlike a certain other ex centre half who thinks his repuation is enough to get him the job. Not sure what sort of manager he'd make to be honest, but at least his willing to stop at the bottom and hopefully work his way up.
