StanSP Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 So many teams. Something like 19 extra matches if you make it to the final. Oh it's Europa league
CosbehFox Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Well trimming the groups down to four teams has done it's job. Can't see Fulham or Everton going through.
Uncle Albert Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 There are far to many teams in the Europa League, should make it the same as the Champs League.
lildave3 Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Decent draw for Fener, Twente will probably cause the most problems. Should go through, probably even as winners. I hope Galatasaray and Fenerbahce aren't in Bucharest at the same time
purpleronnie Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 There are far to many teams in the Europa League, should make it the same as the Champs League. Agreed its more of a lottery than competition, we play too much football as it is.
Guest Bilo Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Everton are the only British club I'd put money on to progress, though beating Benfica to win the group will be very difficult indeed. Hamburger SV will win Celtic's group and Rapid Vienna showed their quality over two games against Aston Villa, tough games for Celtic. Fulham's group will surely be won by Roma and neither Basle nor CSKA Sofia will roll over easily. They could even prop up the group if they don't take it seriously enough. As for the winner of the whole thing I'd go for Roma or Villarreal as the bigger names re-establish themselves in this tournament.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Fulham playing Roma. What the fuck?
Darkzzz_ Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I hope Fulham do well. I think they can beat Roma.
StanSP Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I hope Fulham do well. I think they can beat Roma. If they win their games in the run up to this Roma match, I think they could give the Italians a real run for their money. But I'm not sure who they're up against before this match
Guest Bilo Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Celtic can progress from that group. Doable, but I wouldn't rush down to the bookies to place a bet on em. Having said that, if it came down to a final game showdown at Parkhead I'd be reluctant to back against them with their home record.
lildave3 Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I'd actually be willing to place a bet on Celtic winning that group.
purpleronnie Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Yep I think Celtic will be ok, tough for them all though.
Guest Bilo Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 I'd actually be willing to place a bet on Celtic winning that group. Just their away record that concerns me. Their win in Moscow was their first in European competition for three years, and they have some tough places to go in that group. Even Hapoel Tel Aviv won't be easy at home and they're shoe-ins to finish bottom of that group.

That coupled with Tony Mowbray's relative inexperience of games as big as these could be our undoing but i have faith.
AjcW Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 Was going to watch fulham v sofia but "Twat Smith, Randy Townsend and that other bloke" have completely but me off so Ill be watching celtic.
lildave3 Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 I'm also watching Celtic. Vincent Enyeama is playing, now there is a true FM legend.
AjcW Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 bargain basement and still brilliant, will be interesting to see what he is like IRL
lildave3 Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 Basle beating Roma 1-0. Galatasaray also winning, 1-0 away at Panathanaikos.
AjcW Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 The games are a bit dull so far tonight. Hopefully the later kick offs will impress.
AjcW Posted 17 September 2009 Posted 17 September 2009 Clinical from Samaras. Not the most frequently muttered sentence .
