Race row at snub for Ince

PAUL INCE was last night the centre of a race row after being snubbed at this year's League Managers Association Awards.

The MK Dons boss was the only coach who led his side to a division win not to receive a gong, and his agent Steve Kutner said "I consider it sinister that every manager who won a league title - from the Premier all the way through - was named LMA manager of the year, except Paul.

"He has done a incredible job at MK Dons this season, winning League Two having spent very little on players."

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson, West Brom chief Tony Mowbray and Swansea gaffer Roberto Martinez all won their respective division triumphs.

But the League Two award went to Graham Turner, whose Hereford side finished third in the table.

Kutner added: "I have nothing against Graham and I'm sure he's done a first-class job. I just can't understand how Paul could have been overlooked for this award given the season he's had. I'd like someone to explain it to me."

LMA Chief executive, Richard Bevan, inisisted Ince has not been the victim of discrimination but admitted the voting system may be reviewed next season.

Bevan said: "The votes are cast by each individual manager in the individual leagues for one of their peers."

Shocked former Watford and England striker Luther Blissett said "Paul has the ability to become the first black English manager in the Premier League. If he has won, it would have sent out a very encouraging message to young black coaches."

Long title :giggle:

MK Dons were widely tipped to go up this season anyway. They won the league by 5 pts ahead of Peterborough who have spent quite a bit of money and were predicted to go up this season.

Hereford, however, have had little or no transfer funds, were predicted to struggle this season but they've clinched automatic promotion.

Perhaps its on harsh Ince, but Hereford really have came from nowhere this season.

It's not.

The newspaper has cynically used it in a lame attempt to spice up a shit story, neither Ince or Blissett have claimed racism is at the root of this award.

**** off. MK Dons can all **** off.

Hereford have had a fantastic season and he fully deserves it. And they have Trevor.

Correct me if I'm wrong,

but back to back promotions is fantastic,

I hate it when people play the racism card :@

Pisses me off so ****in much :@ :@

It wasn't back to back promotions. This was their second season in League Two but it's still a great achievement! definateley deserved!

Hereford boss has done a better job, especially with him being chairman aswell.

Although perhaps that helps.

It should help, Turner's done two jobs at once brilliantly. He deserves to be accoladed considering some of the managers that do an appalling job and some chairmen that are simply awful. Look at Leicester for instance, Holloway and Mandaric have completely cocked up jobs that Turner has done single-handedly (to an extent) with less resources and no more time.

No it isn't racist, Ince's colour has got nothing to do with this, quite rightly Turner's efforts are commended with this award. Just because Ince won the league doesn't mean he's done the best job, he has great resources at his disposal (rich chairman, big crowds), whereas Hereford don't, and I think Turner deserves it.

Fully deserved for Hereford, nothing in it for me.

It is a slight farce how the winners of 3 out of the 4 leagues have manager of the years. I'd defenatly give the championship one to Johnson/brown, reguardless of who goes off they've both done amazing jobs. Brown was on the verge of being sacked this time last year having only just kept Hull up.

And I'd have given the prem one to Bruce, worked wonders at Wigan having hardly spent nothing. Took over when they were bottom leaving Brum who were out of it at the time who ended up going down.

The award does seem a little strange, bearing in mind that Turner's been at Hereford something like twelve seasons.

It's hard to prove conclusive evidence of racism (unconscious or otherwise) on the part of those who voted, but you can't blame anyone for being a trifle suspicious..

If anything it's a shame that the league winner gets the award in the other league. Has Gary Johnson not done a better job than Mowbray?

I think Turner fully deserves the award.

As it's already been pointed out, he's been able to drag them out of the Conference and get promoted on little money.

Ince already had the foundations of a good League 2 side - they missed out on automatic promotion by one point under Allen. On top of this, he's been backed financially.

This is not to discredit Ince, but winning the title should not automatically entitle you to the award.

To infer it was down to racism is absurd.

I can understand why Ince would be fcuked off if all the other league winning managers won the award.

Ok so hereford may have done wll having come up but in that case surely the Bristol City boss should have been CChip manager ahead of WBA's manager???

I aint saying its racist or owt but Ince does have a case for being fcuked off if you take my example into the scenario??? :dunno:

Hereford deserved it because of the massive leap they have made with no money!

Boring PC ponces.

RACIST!

Turner also took Hereford down into the Conference in the first place...

MK Dons didn't just win their division, but also the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, beating Swansea among others in the process.

It's a double very few teams manage. Ince is perhaps entitled to greater recognition for having achieved it, especially in his first full season of management.

A double promotion after taking a team down? I bet all the fans were calling for his head too. :P

I was responding to a post detailing Turner's record over many seasons.

It does seem odd that a manager who won no trophies can be preferred to one who won two.
