Lillehamring Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 Kisnorbo - 26 McAuley - 28 Clemence - 29 Hume - 25 Newton - 32 Fryatt - 21 Wesolowski - 20 Hayes - 20 Sheehan - 21 Stearman - 20 Fülöp - 24 Mattock - 17 King - 19 Chambers - 17 average = 22.8
Mikey Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 For 17 year olds Mattock and Chambers are really good. Positive future ahead hopefully.

Lillehamring Posted 26 November 2007 Author Posted 26 November 2007 I think you can take Newton out as I really can't see him appearing again unless we're desperate. true, but i was considering tonights team, w/o newton.... 22.07
Jimmy Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 6 academy grads featured tonight, and I think all of them played well
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Good to give these kids some expirence wearing the Leicester shirt than just fobbing them of on loan while we play knobs like Newton and Cort.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 It bodes well for next season, especially with Gradel coming back and Porter back from injury. Mandaric seems to be an impatient man at the best of times but if his three-year plan (now suddenly seemingly a one-year plan) is to come to fruition, the best bet might be to write this season off as experience for the youngsters. I can't see this squad getting promoted whoever plays - but it would be invaluable for players like Mattock, King, Chambers and one or two of the others we haven't seen yet to get 15 or so more appearances this season.
maddog Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I think you can take Newton out as I really can't see him appearing again unless we're desperate. am i the only one who thought Newton was one of our best players yesterday He got forward well, made passes, showed some skill even won some headers. Sure he passed the ball out of play and stood still the odd time but i thought he played really well. It's Fryatt who shouldn't be playing unless we are desperate like last night i suppose. If he was suspended we probably would have won. He is just shit. Also i thought Clemence was crap again, kept given the ball away. Everyone else was great even Stearman. Hayes was good too like he was against Blackpool can't believe he hasn't played that much. Fryatt didn't win any headers, hes too weak, and when they passed it too him it just bounced off his foot back to them. Also i think Clemence must have peaked last season.
SamL Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I think we're developing a very good side here, with a view to making it into the top half of the table and pushing for promotiion next year. Ashley Chambers played well last night and i'd love to see him make it into the squad again but we have to be careful not to put too much pressure on our younger players. We still need to strenthen our squad as we don't have strength in depth. Yes we have quantity but we don't necessarily have quality. I'd love to see Ollie do what MA should have done last season and totally revamp the squad. If Ollie can provide us with some stability, the results will start to become more consistent and then we can push up the table. I'am very optomistic about the future BLUE ARMY.

Why does your sig say Leicester 3 Cardiff 0 ? Newton has played poor all season. He was attrocious at Colchester when he came on. I think Clemence is starting to show us what he can do

As long as we win Saturday we can still make the play offs or better easily this season. I just can't believe we dint score. How many corners did we have? must have been 10 at least
thybluefox Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I think everyone forgets Fryatt is only 21. And Chambers 17! We have a very impressive looking youth team, with some really good players coming through. I think, given a season or so of experience, next year we'll have some quality players. Ollie has already said he's not going to let good players go without a fight.

Thracian Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Great to read of such enthusiasm. And it's a relief to feel vindicated for my faith in these players. I just hope people won't lose faith if someone hits a bad patch. Virtually all young players blow hot and cold. It takes time to become a consistent professional and I think, generally, our youngsters are more consistent than many because they've played in a team that was used to winning and in a situation where they've had lots of quality competition for places. Happily, there are so many young players in our first 16/18 now that the side is starting to develop the fast-passing style which was a feature of the Academy and I only hope that continues because, with any luck it will mean us getting far more players forward in the future and will make for much more entertaining matches. Holloway's leadership can be the catayst which turns promise into success. I don't think Holloway will ever let us lose competitiveness because of playing in that style and I'm sure he will blend those skills with the sort of seniors who will emphasise the need to be resolute and combative. The future's bright....

Hardly, these players you've been championing, they're all playing and we're no better now (if we are, then not by much) then we were at this point last season with Hughes Williams etc etc playing in terms of legue position, and we barley created a single attempt from open play last night! And yes of course they do, youth = inconsistancy thats why you generally can't expect to get promoted with a team that has an average age of 22. Especially when the "experince" is Sean Newton.

Interesting thought Fez, but IMHO there is still a chance, plus the January transfer window. So long as we are within a few points of the play-offs by January, anything could happen

That is a bit much isn't it? We looked most dangerous from set plays. Neither side had the ability to create much from open play. All in all though i'd rather see a team that could get better than one which is fading and this team can get better.
Staf Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I think it is brilliant to see the youth players coming through and i think that with the right sort of coaching some of them will become premiership players
Joe. Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 I'm quite impressed with the amount of youngsters we've got breaking into our first team. It just shows what a strong youth setup we have here. I'm hoping one day we unearth a real gem, who knows if this latest breed have what it takes?

WHERE YOU WATCHING A DIFFERENT GAME?? DID YOU GO TO BRISTOL CITY?? FRYATT WAS CLASS, CLEM IS OUR LEADER... ARE YOU BLIND?
Lillehamring Posted 27 November 2007 Author Posted 27 November 2007 vindicated! Especially when the "experince" is Sean Newton. no, but to achieve with such a young squad what players in their late 20s - erly 30s managed is impressive, & surely you must be more optimistic & excited now than you were this time last season. to be competitive whilst not being the complete article has to be worth shouting about, especially with so many young lads in the first team
Geo V Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 We have to be realistic and ask how many of these kids would actually be in the team had our pre-season signings worked out and how many are really that good. We have spoken about how lousy some of the signings have been with the likes of Kishishev bombing and allowing Weso to get a run. Mattock or Sheehan wouldnt be featuring had Clarke not got injured, Stearman wouldn't have got in had Kaebi or even Chambers come through, Fulop has come in as Logan has left on loan, Matty Fryatt almost got sold to Wolves but is featuring but cant see that many goals as is playing because Cort and DJ havent excelled etc etc. I can only say hand on heart that Weso has a huge future if he stays away from injury, Mattock is highly regarded but I must admit I cant see what all the fuss is as yet although he has potential, Stearman can be a very good right-back if he concentrates more and Sheehan has a great left peg but his all-round game needs work. King hasn't played enough to warrant any major excitement although again he has potential but then again most clubs have a load of youngsters that they are excited about from Burnley to Ipswich so are we that unique?!

Especially when the "experince" is Sean Newton. a) I think there is slight improvement in real terms and that has been achieved in the most disruptive of circumstances. b) Furthermore now our decimated midfield is back I have no doubts that under our first positive manager since Martin Allen that our performances and our style of play will improve. To me those signs have already been seen. c) Instead of having no-hope loanees like Horsfield and Jarrett and instead of having a team half full of journeyman pro's who's value would never increase we have a side which has players who's value is increasing and who would seem to be improving fairly steadily. That adds up to worthwhile improvement for me and altogether I will be amazed if our team is not better placed than last season when the transfer window re-opens. I'm sure you'll mention it if that proves not to be the case.
