Master Fox Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/poli...icle3156255.ece Cannabis is to be reclassified as a Class B drug after an official review this spring, The Times has learnt. Gordon Brown and Jacqui Smith are determined to reverse the decision to downgrade the drug when the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs completes its report in the next few months. While its recommendations are not yet known, ministers are already making plain that the Home Secretary is prepared to overrule the expert body if necessary. Reclassifying cannabis as a Class B drug will mean that anyone found in possession of the substance could face a five-year jail term and an unlimited fine rather than a police warning and confiscation of the drug. The penalty for supplying would remain the same, at a maximum 14 years in jail and unlimited fines.
hairy Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Leads to heroin addiction. People who get caught should be locked up for life etc etc etc. Ask the Daily Mail, they know the 'score'
Phube Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Ain't bothered.. i'm a good boy!!! But I do believe it should be an ALL or NOTHING approach! All legal or not!

Finnegan Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 For ****s sakes. One step forward, three steps back.

I hope to see alcohol and tobacco classified as Class A drugs at the same time. The Dutch are amongst the smallest users of cannabis in Europe, I wonder why. Britain is one of the biggest users, I wonder why. Honesty is needed with regard to this subject nothing that Gordon Brown and Jacqui Smith would know anything about. Utterly pointless.
James. Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Wankers. Has no one f**king realised that every single policy designed to reduce drug use and drug related crime has failed? Clearly it is time for a radical, different apoproach - legalise the f**king lot. Problem solved.

Problem solved. I don't know that it would solve the problem but it would go some way to contolling the situation which has to be a step forward. Your are right that radical action is needed as the status quo is the equivalent to burying head in the sand. As criminals are the only beneficiaries is it illogical to assume Gordon Brown and Jacqui Smith are taking bribes from criminals?
act smiley Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 While its recommendations are not yet known, ministers are already making plain that the Home Secretary is prepared to overrule the expert body if necessary. While the various "think-tanks" and the like are largely pointless, this kind of thing is something that I find slightly worrying.

Zingari Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 just say no , err remember your manners ...........no thank you !
Master Fox Posted 10 January 2008 Author Posted 10 January 2008 Anyone know where i can get some decent weed? Cheers

James. You're quite right. I was being intentionally abrupt to try and stoke a bit of debate. For me it would change the problem into an issue that could be dealt with a lot more effectively than the current situation.

Daggers Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Anecdotal evidence from the wife's old place (Brum Mental Health) was a stunning correlation between mental health problems and cannabis abuse. Someone will always point to the old bloke who has smoked 40 a day for his entire life and not got cancer in anti-smoking debates while others do similar in anti-cannabis debates...but the simple fact is it isn't good for you. That said, I'd much rather everyone was stoned at home ordering pizza and laughing at children's TV than clogging up the roads or fighting outside pubs. Stoned people commit less burglary too. Whether or not it is a conduit to harder drugs is a mute point but the current (and previous) methods of control have failed and simply reclassifying the drug is not a solution. Society does not need more 14-21yr old criminals clogging up the courts due to grabbing a couple of tokes.
Daggers Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Has anyone ever smoked crack? I've been up the crack of Dawn
Tommy G Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Oh well, not a fan of drugs anyway so won't affect me. They should all be regarded as Class A IMO
James. Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Oh well, not a fan of drugs anyway so won't affect me. They should all be regarded as Class A IMO Yes, that'll sort everything out won't it.
Tommy G Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Yes, that'll sort everything out won't it. Yep...
James. Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Yep... On what basis do you make that comment? Do you think that making everything Class A would act as a deterrent? Try telling that to the millions of people who neck pills, snort coke and inject scag each week. Doesn't seem to have deterred them. Or maybe you could try telling the multi-BILLION pound drug industry that you're making everything Class A. They'll immediately shut up shop. Won't they? Oh ok so maybe tell the police that we should stamp class A on every drug, it's not like their time isn't taken up already with admin over relatively innocent spliff smoking. Maybe the prisons will listen when you roll up with 2 million stoners who have each been given the same sentence as a crack pusher because they sorted their mate out with an eighth. I don't think you've thought this through properly have you?

First of all I don't take much interest of the drug industry. Clearly your an expert. It was just an off the cuff comment saying that they should all be Class A as I hate drugs (apart from alcohol). No need to make such a big deal about it. I think you need to pipe down a bit
