Craig Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Tykes Move For HumePosted on: Wed 25 Jun 2008 Leicester City have today (Wednesday) accepted an undisclosed fee from Championship side Barnsley for striker Iain Hume. The 24-year-old Canadian international finished last season as the club's top goalscorer with 11 goals, but after almost three years at the Walkers Stadium he has opted for pastures new. Ironically, it was his winner at Oakwell in April which handed the Foxes a lifeline in their battle to beat the drop but the forward suffered mixed emotions the following weekend as he netted the opener against Sheffield Wednesday before missing a penalty as the hosts lost 3-1. Chief Executive Lee Hoos said: "Iain did sign a new three-year contract last summer but there is no point in trying to keep a player who does not want to play football at League One level. "A number of clubs expressed interest in Iain and he expressed his desire to play at a higher level. "Barnsley obviously wanted the player very badly and made an offer that was acceptable to the club." Chairman Milan Mandaric added: "I'd like to place on record our thanks to Iain for his efforts and we wish him well with his future career. "But we must focus on what's in front of us and build a squad with the passion, desire and ability to gain promotion and help kick-start a new era for this football club." Signed on transfer deadline day at the end of August 2005 from Tranmere Rovers, Hume went on to finish the campaign with nine goals. The following season he top-scored with 14 goals before again topping the goalscoring charts last term. In total, Hume made 132 appearances and scored 34 goals for the Foxes. http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Lates...1333954,00.html
Unabomber Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 fooking undisclosed fees, at least let us know how much we got!
Brainy Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Anybody get the feeling that Pearson is having no say in this? Only Hoos' and Mandaric are saying anything about the departures.
mb2251 Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 fooking undisclosed fees, at least let us know how much we got! £1.2Mil according to Barnsley
Tilley Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Told you he would go Barnsley. You got it right. Two in a day hurts like hell, Mattock next
Corky Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 I wish him all the best, always gave his all for us. Won't ever be a club legend, but tried his heart out. Good bit of business though, if it's a million quid.
City fan @ Aston Uni Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 All kicking off today!! Shame that Hume has gone
Unabomber Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 £1.2Mil according to Barnsley Well I would take that amount any day
Shit_arse Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 GOOD NEWS - Need to ship out the majority of this squad and build a team that want to play for LCFC I'd get rid of most of our current squad
Vardinhio Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 It's 1.2million http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page...1330256,00.html
filbertway Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 I take it this a tactic so that other teams won't know how much we have to spend on players?
SemperEadem Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Wolves , Sheff united and preston wanted him so Barnsley did well to get him.
Mr Happy Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 You got it right. Two in a day hurts like hell, Mattock next Swiftly followed by Kissa at christmas (if hes fit by then) We're looking pretty much buggered for this season now, who the hell are we going to play?! We'll barely have a decent starting XI at this rate, what with none of this money going on transfers
billyfox1 Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 If he's going to leave he could atleast go somewhere better than Barnsley. Surely there is still a high chance of him playing in league 1 after a season
Mr Happy Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 I wish him all the best, always gave his all for us. Won't ever be a club legend, but tried his heart out.Good bit of business though, if it's a million quid. He comes pretty close though, as modern standards go, for me wish him all the best for the future.
Vardinhio Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 We are going to have to spend well. Nothing special about our squad at the minute, let's not kid ourselves. Gutted!
Asha Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 This hit me hard this has. He was a player who always tried, despite being shunned to the right wing or the bench. Can't believe will never say this again, but surely one last time HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUUUUUUUUUUUME.
Toby or not Toby Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Has everyones optimisim for the season gone? Mine has
FleckneyFox Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Today is a bad, bad day. Probably my 2 favourite players gone And damn Jamie Clapham he recommended Ipswich and Wolves to McAuley and Stearz respectively, he comes here does fook all and then tells our players how great these other clubs are
Vardinhio Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 But who are you going to replace him with? Even that decent Stockport strikers being touted at 3million.
