Tykes Move For Hume

Posted on: Wed 25 Jun 2008

Leicester City have today (Wednesday) accepted an undisclosed fee from Championship side Barnsley for striker Iain Hume.

The 24-year-old Canadian international finished last season as the club's top goalscorer with 11 goals, but after almost three years at the Walkers Stadium he has opted for pastures new.

Ironically, it was his winner at Oakwell in April which handed the Foxes a lifeline in their battle to beat the drop but the forward suffered mixed emotions the following weekend as he netted the opener against Sheffield Wednesday before missing a penalty as the hosts lost 3-1.

Chief Executive Lee Hoos said: "Iain did sign a new three-year contract last summer but there is no point in trying to keep a player who does not want to play football at League One level.

"A number of clubs expressed interest in Iain and he expressed his desire to play at a higher level.

"Barnsley obviously wanted the player very badly and made an offer that was acceptable to the club."

Chairman Milan Mandaric added: "I'd like to place on record our thanks to Iain for his efforts and we wish him well with his future career.

"But we must focus on what's in front of us and build a squad with the passion, desire and ability to gain promotion and help kick-start a new era for this football club."

Signed on transfer deadline day at the end of August 2005 from Tranmere Rovers, Hume went on to finish the campaign with nine goals.

The following season he top-scored with 14 goals before again topping the goalscoring charts last term.

In total, Hume made 132 appearances and scored 34 goals for the Foxes.

I wish him all the best, always gave his all for us. Won't ever be a club legend, but tried his heart out.

Good bit of business though, if it's a million quid.

You got it right.

Two in a day hurts like hell,

Mattock next :dunno:

Swiftly followed by Kissa at christmas (if hes fit by then)

We're looking pretty much buggered for this season now, who the hell are we going to play?! We'll barely have a decent starting XI at this rate, what with none of this money going on transfers

He comes pretty close though, as modern standards go, for me  wish him all the best for the future.

This hit me hard this has. He was a player who always tried, despite being shunned to the right wing or the bench.

Can't believe will never say this again, but surely one last time

HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

UUUUUUUUUUUUME.
