filbertway Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 The more I think about this, the more this move epitimises how far we have sunk in four seasons. It's making me wonder now whether or not Hume ever was really 'that good' at all. I guess it's a case of associating hard work and fight with quality on the pitch. And if you find it difficult to see those two hand in hand, you've got every right to question his abilities at all. Handy at League 1 I would agree, but promotion pushing material at championship level? Why didn't a so-called 'bigger championship club' come in for him then? It's a shame people don't realise this when saying we had a team capable of the top 6 and they just couldn't be bothered.
Mikey Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Been my favorite player since he's been here. Always put 100% effort in whenever he played either up front or on the wing. I suppose 1.2 million is a alright bit of business, maybe could have got a bit more! Maxi Gradel is the future anyway. Good luck Hume.
AmericanScott Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Do you know what? I'm not sad at all that Hume has gone. In fact, he can fook off for lying to us by saying "i'm 100% committed to helping this club get back up next season" We'll you ain't going to do so at a crap club that's going to get relegated anyway
Dames Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 The only thing thats got me riled up is that were gunna get 1.2 million for Hume and go and spend like 1.5 on someone thats probably worse.
hairy Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Am I the only one not really that bothered? No. I'm not. Liked the bloke but his good moves / passes were more of a flash in the pan than a realiable feature. As long as we got a good price for him I am happy.

Chief Executive Lee Hoos said: "Iain did sign a new three-year contract last summer but there is no point in trying to keep a player who does not want to play football at League One level."A number of clubs expressed interest in Iain and he expressed his desire to play at a higher level. "Barnsley obviously wanted the player very badly and made an offer that was acceptable to the club." To be fair seems like he lied to us.

Nick_The_Tyke Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 To clear a couple of things up. I was at Oakwell buying a shirt when he had his photo call. Why Barnsley? Because of the clubs interested he felt we presented the best chance of a regular place up front. Given (excepting Howard, who is a midfielder) our most prolific striker notched 6 this season, that looks a good bet. How much? £500k up front, with 3 conditional further installments of £250k. The manager said he expects we will pay "about a million", so it sounds like 2 of the 3 have conditions which are likely to be met. That's all I know.

McFoxy Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 To be totaly honest he was only ever OK. He could have been alright at league 1 but he had a lot of time to show us how good he was before we got relegated. 11 goals in the championship isn't stunnning is it? For some reason i'm not feeling terrible like I did when savage and Izzet left. None of the players really deserve to be kept anyway. Keep the young lads (which has been happning with all the signings) and build from there. There was someething wrong with the core of that team last year, so clear as many as possible and if we get a million plus for most of them then why not. I mean ask yourself the question..... could the team be any worse than last years? Well yes it could but it would be plain shit luck if it was . Keep clearing the decks but just keep the cheap young lads who actualy looked pretty good next to the dross of last seasons team.
poynton blue Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 hes a f*** ing judas mate Their all f***ing judas"s mate the days of Matt le Tissier and Steve Bull have long gone Should just blank the twats if you see them out and about Money grabbing knob jockeys the lot of them
ASH17LCFC Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 Am I the only one not really that bothered?Bit dispapointed we've lost a really fighty, hard working player. But realistically he wasn't the quality to take us forward in the long term. Sure he'd have been handy in League One but I'm sure we'll either still have the quality or bring someone in. I mean if Jason Scotland can rip up League One, I'm pretty sure even Elvis Hammond could. No i'm not bothered either, the guy wasn't all that good anyway. Cov away said alot about him. He wasn't a 20 goal a season striker and wasn't anything great on the wing. Plus his haircut was crap.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 June 2008 Posted 25 June 2008 No offence but... some of you are real simpletons. How you honestly believe the words listed on the OS ever left Hume's lips is completely beyond me. Someone at the club writes it, they doodle in the rest and stick a player's picture next to it. Job done. Of course he was always going to leave. We shifted him all over the pitch all season to accommodate two strikers who looked largely pathetic only to scramble back to him at the end of the year when we needed goals to stay up. Fair play to him, he tried hard and that's all you can ask for sometimes. These players have been part of a losing team for years now. Time they all packed their bags and we build a team that gets used to winning instead.
