Guest Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Despite the sexist comments earlier in the week suggesting us girls should be kept in the kitchen, I have to admit that I love cooking. Tonight, I think I might serve up chilli con carne. I make mine from scratch, and I fry a finely chopped onion, pepper and garlic, then some mince before adding some kidney beans. I use cumin and cayenne pepper to flavour, then add the secret ingredient; an Oxo cube. I then put in a small tin of tomatoes, and leave to simmer for 10-20 minutes, depending on how much time or how hungry we are! What about everyone else?
Tabou Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 I absolutely love cooking and have considered retraining as a chef. My personal favourites are Chicken in White Wine sauce, Chili, and Sunday Roast. I also bake the odd cake. I do manage to polish of a bottle of wine or two whilst cooking however.

Guest Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Add some stout to that, it's a taste sensation I shall store that for future reference.

I make mine tha same as you but with a little extra special ingredient - dark chocolate! If I'm making a chili using about 500g of mince then I'll add four squares of dark baking chocolate. You just get a hint of a taste. Put the squares in quite close to the end of cooking and give it a good stir.

hairy Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Cooking chilli tonight too. Try using proper mince from the butchers (£6 for 5lbs at Wraggs in Oadby) it makes one hell of a difference.

fox123 Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Not home cooking but has any one tried the food at the Marriot Hotel, Grove Park? The Japanese Fillet Steak on a bed of noodles was quite exquisite and something i'd love to be able to replicate!

In the Americas it was used in savoury dishes because of the bitter taste, or something? Cooking chilli tonight too. Try using proper mince from the butchers (£6 for 5lbs at Wraggs in Oadby) it makes one hell of a difference. One of the good things about working part time is I get time to go to the butchers and get proper meat. The supermarket stuff is very poor quality. Especially for things like chicken and sausages. I really want to learn how to make a good chili con carne, love it. It's so easy, try it and you'll be amazed at how easy it is!!
Wycombe Fox Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Mrs Isle of Wight Fox is cooking a chili con carne as I type!! Look what you've started now Lisa She's going to add some fresh green chilies too - fan-bloody-tastic!
Guest Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 I am afraid that I don't use proper chillis, as my delicate little taste buds cannot take it. Carl has to add Tabasco to his!!
Tabou Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 I really want to learn how to make a good chili con carne, love it. Get yourself a woman to do it.
James. Posted 25 September 2008 Posted 25 September 2008 Cooking chilli is an art. My sister has absolutely perfected it. On top of what has already been mentioned try adding some worcester sauce and mixed herbs while cooking. Also tomato sauce. Works very well. Hers is the best chilli I have ever tasted.
