Cheltenham Town F.A Cup 3rd round match thread

Manager clearly doesn't rate Evans. -
Bournemouth hoping to get Nwaneri on loan for the rest of the season. Whether Arsenal will okay it is another matter, but would make sense from Bournemouth's point of view. Buying in January is generally a higher price, and especially given that everyone knows they've just received 62 million quid. We would probably get more for Fatawu this month from someone desperate than we will in the summer though. It's just whether anyone's desperate enough.
-
Stoke fans and Sheffield United fans both rated him very highly while playing for them in this league. I would go as far as to say, that had Soutter not got injured last season while at Sheffield United, they would probably have been promoted as Champions. Much like, had we kept kasper the season we were relegated under Rodgers, we would have stayed up.
-
Completely agree, protests outside, windows smashed, abuse against managers too, like Martin O`Neil after the Sheff United game, Pleat got loads of abuse, Little had someone spit in his face, when he returned with Villa, and had Judas!, shouted at him constantly from the stands. People running on the pich and throwing their season tickets at the dug out during some dire times. Yes we wasn`t too passive back then.
-
As i said modern times, was still just a bit of handbags the other night though.
-
The fan base never used to be passive towards the runnning of the club to be fair,, that is definitely a modern thing.
-
I know its modern times and all that, but as someone who first started going to games in the 1970s, and was going away everywhere during the 80s and onwards, i`ve lost count of the amount of times ive seen Leicester fight with Leicester over the years. On trains, in pubs, on streets and in the ground, its nothing new. I`m sure other clubs get it too. In fact in the 1970s, the council estates used to fight each other in the Kop, then all be together later fighting away fans! They even used to make bonfires in the kop on a freezing day, and i`m` not even kidding! The little spat last night was handbags really.
-
To be fair ,he's not had much practice doing his goal celebration back flip in the last few years!
-
Awful distribution, makes some decent saves, but has a bad habit of pushing the ball out in front of him, and into a dangerous area. Beat on his near post twice in the last three games, which isn't great to be honest. Tries to punch every incoming cross, even when he has an easy catch he can make. Judgements on when to come off his line is questionable, not helped by the defenders in front of him, but it works the other way too. If the defenders don't have the confidence in the keeper, then they will play situations differently, to a keeper they do have confidence in. Is he good enough for a club at the bottom end of the championship, which is what we are, then possibly. Is he good enough for a club at the top end looking to get promoted, probably not.

Well Wheelan and Rudkin allegedly didn't speak to each other if it could be avoided, for at least 2 years, and the fact that Rudkin continued to be cosied up sat next to Top, while Wheelan was sat in the row behind, at games that Top could be bothered to attend, tells you where Tops loyalty lie. Wheelan had been at King Power for a number of years, before they took over here, and Vichai clearly seen her as a competent and valued person within their set up. I think I would trust Vichais judgement, far more than Tops. She was also very well respected amongst the Premier league big wigs too. Who knows what has really gone on behind the scenes, in regards to the running of the club, but if I were to hazard a guess, it would be Wherlan that was trying to steady the ship, out of dangerous seas, and Top and his lapdog Rudkin, that were standing on the deck shouting "full speed ahead", straight into the massive looming iceberg that lay ahead!

I never mentioned the preparation or any lack of it before the series, I just pointed out that if we get another 5-0 series loss, or even a 4-1, then those running English cricket, will once again blame the county game, and will once again call for there to be less counties, as they did after our last 5-0 thrashing down there!
-
Yes and once again those at the top will be blaming the county game, and call for less county's to "make the competition stronger". Even though most of these players have hardly played any county cricket over the last few years. They're much too busy being rested and playing golf.

Leicester vs Blackburn (H) 1/11/2025

That team is woeful, but my god the bench is absolutely honking! Just shows how far we have fallen. Sad times! -
Top taking a more active role in running the club, with no plans to bring someone in with a bit of know how into the position, is not going to end well. Let's be right, all the bad decisions that have been made at the club in the last few years, will ultimately have been signed off by Top anyway, and given the go ahead. I suppose now he's been moved aside at King Power, to a position he can do less damage to them. and with them going tits up, he has a bit more time on his hands. So while I welcome Susan Wheelan doing the honourable thing, the future looks at least as bleak now, if not even bleaker!

I thought Harborough should have won comfortably yesterday. Could and probably should have been 3 up at half time, but missed chances, Newton being especially guilty. Second half O'Sullivan put one wide that he should have put away too. Halesowen never really carried much threat, but probably had a decent 15 minutes either side of the goals, but apart from the Halesowen goal, where they got caught from a through ball in behind, Harborough defended well. The Harborough subs actually didn't help. Arlott-John was took off, but was Harboroughs biggest threat, Hickey was took off, who although in my opinion, is not the player he once was, was a level above his replacement, Newton took off, and despite his missed chances, was a thorn in their side, with his work rate, and closing down. Stephens never really got into the game when he came on. I went to their first game this season, when they won 4-0 against Needham Market, and i thought they were actually much better yesterday, but the missed chances cost then the win they deserved.

It really isn't difficult to differentiate between club displays and Union fs displays is it! The club displays are boring, safe and lack any sort of passion and inventiveness, and union fs displays have passion, meaning, are well thought out and reflect the fans, and our identity. You have to be a day tripper to not get the difference!

Bloke on that LTID had him going to Liverpool earlier, on you tube! Needless to say, I didn't bother watching.
-
He's a pile of poo!
-
Not sure, but Winks is smiling, so I presume his face has been!
-
Good point!
-
Wrexham keep Danny Ward in goal and they are going back down. Simple! How he has stolen a living impersonating a goalkeeper is absolutely amazing. He must be the king of Kings when it comes to blagging. Fair play to the Lad.
-
Technically he's very poor, which is the reason Enzo ditched him, same with Kristiansen. They wouldn't have worked under Enzo as the inverted full back because of their lack of technical ability. That's why he brought in Doyle, who wasn't the best either to be honest, but fortunately we had Ricardo, who has stacks of technical ability, and was well suited for the role under Enzo. Cifuentes plays it slightly differently. He wants one of his full backs to get high up the pitch in an attacking area, and come inside to offer an attacking option, and that is why are seeing Thomas in some good positions further forward, but I highly doubt it will work, because Thomas just isn't good enough on the ball to create. Cifuentes is having to try and mould a team which plays the way he wants, with his hands tied behind his back. Enzo was fortunate to have decent backing in the summer he came in, and could bring players in that would be able to play how he wanted. Although the board didn't back him in January, which has been a common theme even going back to the days we were in the top 4 of the premier league under Rodgers, which ultimately played a part in us missing out on Champions league money 2 years on the trot. Cifuentes has had no backing at all to this point. The guy must have been off his rocker to walk into our shiteshow!
-
He may well develop into someone who can play as a lone striker, but I think that would come with time and experience. I agree, at the moment he would need someone along side him, or at least someone who could support him, from in behind. He has a good touch, and you can see the talent and potential, I just don't see him as a wide player, and I really hope we move him central now, and build his future there.
-
Completely agree, he needs to be played central. I thought his game in general against Peterborough, when he played as a striker was decent, but he had little or no service, and not much chance to impress in the short time he was given.
-
Jake Evans is still not 17 yet, and the chances of him getting first team minutes anywhere else are remote. So yes he could say, I'm not signing a contract but will he be any better off anywhere else at the moment. It's unfair to judge players on pre season, but from the limited minutes that Evans had, he wasnt anywhere near as impressive as Monga, Aluko, Alves or Page in those minutes, in my opinion. I know that be has been playing as a wide player for the 21s, and scored plenty of goals from that position, but from the very little I have seen from him, he is never going to be a winger. He clearly knows where the back of the net is though, juddging from the goals he has scored, and I would rather we play him as a number 9, going forward for the 21s, and see how he goes on from there.
