  2. Sweaty palms here. Jeez
  3. Espn/fawanews?
  4. What stream you got
  5. Not worth the cost of installation, unfortunately.
  6. I take it you subsequently gained younger siblings?
  7. I mentioned this to a police traffic officer I know and he said it would cause confusion if they were turned off at midnight and back on at 5am (for example). Drivers would not recognise the junction as a give way if traffic lights were turned off. If lights were just left at green for all approaches, that would encourage all drivers at the junction to treat it as a "green to go" and collisions would be more likely. If lights were set to red for all approaches it would mean drivers would just stop. If the lights were set to amber, no one would know what was going on. My niggle is lights that are on green at "3am" as you approach, then turn red meaning that you have to stop and wait for zero traffic. If they're green with no other traffic approaching from adjacent roads, just stay on green. They only need to change if there is other traffic about to access the junction.
  8. I don't TBH. There's nothing much that distinguishes most of the current bands/music with a few exceptions. I used to think glam rock would go on forever. Looking back, it was fun but mostly rubbish. The 60's "Britpop" and late 70's punk was probably the most innovative and memorable.

  10. Google is your helpful friend. There's several posts on various forums about this. Not one thing works for all parents/kids. Trial and error.

  12. He had his head stuck up his own arse.
  13. Maria Carey. Just hearing voice her sets my teeth on edge.
  14. We can't even help ourselves to a few rolls of corporate toilet paper, either.
  15. I remember these being used as weapons in pub fights back in the early 70's
  16. Thanks pal. I have posted several times on the Depression topic, as you probably know. Responses have been reassuring, understanding and sympathetic and I appreciate each one. We battle on and as you say, MH is a very difficult field for all concerned. We're not the only ones struggling with the lack of support, treatments, understanding. And especially reasonable funding by the Gov.
  17. Also, take most retirees that say "I don't know how I had time to work" with a pinch of salt. They probably spend days watching Countdown and every shit mid afternoon quiz show plus the home improvement/escape to the country/Homes Under The Hammer/Find it Flog it stuff. They're probably quite bored/boring.
  18. I think the thing is, she gave too many sh1ts

  20. That's scary reading for me as it almost mirrors the life of my daughter, without the death and I doubt it will come that, at least not in similar circumstances, as we do try to maintain some contact, and if non-contact went on for more than a couple of months we'd be on the case. She has repeatedly accused us of trying to ruin her life, she has repeatedly "disowned us", she's once again in hospital under MHA section 3. She has refused to take her meds, she has gone without food for days at times as she feels unable to go out but is able to do online shops when she is functioning reasonably well. She won't leave her flat to take out rubbish to the bins as she thinks people will get in and damage her things. Her constant horrible, abusive and hostile messages to us are, in a strange way, reassuring as we know she is at least in contact. The concern now is that because of her MH issues and conflicts with her neighbours in the flats, the MH and Social Services want to move her to a new address to be discharged to. That's potentially going to bring a whole new set of problems and concerns both for us and our daughter as she has already said she won't tell us where she moves to and it seems no one is obliged to as she has capacity and is over 18. Sorry, I'm offloading again.
  21. It takes some getting used to and a lot of readjustment to the new daily life. I was like you for a couple of years, trying to find my "new identity". I always thought of myself as Nick the Paramedic and so did others. Now I'm just Nick. I started volunteering a couple of years ago. There's a number of volunteering opportunities if you look. Not all are in charity shops. Working with youth groups, older people groups, volunteer driving for the elderly/disabled. Men also are involved with the WRVS hospital cafΓ©s. Some charities need volunteer organisers/financial/technical people. Just a suggestion. I had to accept the relative inactivity of retirement compared to my occupation which was full on for 30+ years and that took time. My advice is, don't fall into idleness even if it means going food shopping more often or visits to nice places for a look around and a snack/lunch. Something suited to you will fall into place and you will develop a new routine.
  22. Yes. Until you get really old and rarely wake up. Life, eh?
  23. I like the cut of your jib but you should be keel-hauled for that. I'm going to need enough grog until I'm 3 sheets to the wind.
  24. Passenger on BBC1.., Dreadful. I watched the first episode and Mrs P wanted to watch the rest. Gut wrenchingly bad. If you haven't seen it, don't bother unless you want to see for yourself how awful scriptwriting, acting, direction and production can sometimes be. It seems to have drawn on a storyline similar to The Taking Of Pelham 123. Not even worthy of comparison.
