Build for next year in the championship
berniethebolt replied to eblair's topic in Leicester City Forum
Unfortunately we look devoid of any quality on the pitch, really poor all over. The contract and wages situation off the pitch is just as much of a shambles with Rudkin keeping his head down. Hopefully not, but it's a concern that should we be relegated then when teams go down they usually have enough "premier league quality" in their squad to bounce straight back (Norwich, Burney etc). With all our key players off and a huge amount out of contract we will be left to rebuild with who we can attract, which would only be championship quality players, although maybe that's not a bad thing. -
Rodgers sends warning to unhappy players
berniethebolt replied to lcfc_forever's topic in Leicester City Forum
Agree Our DOF seems to recieve little to no criticism from us yet every player we've signed, every contract we've negotiated, renegotiated, every player we've recieved offers (good or bad) will have gone through that office and a decision made in the role. The manager may have some input (Ranieri always used to say in press conferences that he coaches the players, he does not sign them. For me, that role takes credit for many of the gems (the Fofanas, the Kantes, Mahrez, Vardy) but also the current mess with the squad depth/quality, contracts running down, players not moving on (assuming they are over paid?), Although I'm hoping they can pull off some magic when we realistically need to make at least 8 signings next window when Perez, Vardy, Albrighton, Soyuncu, Evans, Tielemans, Maddison, Mendy, Vesterguard, Praet, Bertrand (there could be others) will potentially be leaving / not be of the level in next 12 months. -
What positions should we prioritise for new signings?
berniethebolt replied to lcfc_forever's topic in Transfer Talk
All positions need to be considered as a priority as our squad will be vulnerable to injury or have players who will likely not be here or need to be convincedto stay. Next 2 Windows will be critical for the next five years as its a real changing of the guard moment. Looking at the 25 man squad I can realistically see At least 15 who may need to be looked at, which is huge. 1.Ward - debatable is he's a top level keeper for me 2.Bertrand- will go 3.Cags - will go 4.Amearty - contract running down not a 1st 11 5.Tielmens - gone 6. Maddison - a battle keep 7. Albrighton - age 9. Vardy - age 10. Evans - injury plus age 11. Vesterguard- to be sold 12. Mendy - contract 13. Ricardo (will need to manage return) 14. Justin (will need to manage return) 15. Perez - wants to leave. -

Hard to take. Forget the manager and the awful displays on the pitch for a second, I get the feeling based on what's unfolding and also that we're about to post pretty much the biggest loss in the Prem that we are totally bankrupt. How can that happen to a side that's been in Europe 3 seasons in a row and all the extra revenue that brings in? The board who I imagine run this on behalf of Top have some big unanswered questions. Gutted

We must have done a future cashflow to see this coming down the road and known the repercussions of our financial position long before the start of the season. Backroom team have kept the cards close to their chest, gave smoke and mirrors messages within our own club (to the coaching team) in the hope that some of these squad players would exit and save their blushes. I can understand externally to protect any player bids. Just hope we weather the storm, lots of exits will automatically happen next season and then a total rebuild can begin.

Jamie Vardy signs new contract to June 2024!
berniethebolt replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
This season hes struggling massively as a lone striker. Big gaps to the midfield leaving him isolated resulting in him being tightly marked and unable to hold a ball up when played directly to feet. Hes just bundled off the ball by stronger younger center backs, if he works around one another is waiting to sweep him up. Gut feeling is we need to change the shape to play two more advanced strikers, then I believe Vardy will start to have more of an impact as we occupy the second center back. I would still back him to score his chances, you never lose that eye for goal, but getting into a goal scoring position is a massive barrier, and hes looking useless as a result at the minute. -
I feel this window has really damaged Rudkins reputation, as director of football, whos primarily goal is the recruitment of players and negotiate terms which seem to have been extremely generous in relation to other sides which is why we are struggling to refresh the squad. As backroom staff he has no obligation to communicate with the fans (clearly Rogers job) but feel theres a bit of a " ill keep my head down" situation going on here by the backroom team, even embarrassment perhaps. Hopefully we weather this storm, survive the toxic feel about the whole thing and get things moving again next window. Us fans need to lift these boys and try to resist poking the wasps nest and booing the lads to try and get Rogers gone. Easier said than done, but it's for the greater good.

Agree, hes toast, but the dilema is can we replace in 5 days against letting him go for free? We don't have an academy player in his role ready at this stage, else we would have seen them by now. So we have to go into the market. (Armarty, Soyuncu, Vesterguard, Praet, Mendy, Hamza) all on borrow time, but it's essential we have some senior pros on the bench else we will come unstuck. If we let him go for free, fine, but big risk, in my view.
-
I totally understand and agree. I'm more from the angle that he will play a role as a squad player off the bench this season, and also has the ability to make an impact (depending on which Perez turns up). We would need a replacement for him, which I could just see would be a panic buy from recruitment team, or we loan a player, which could be more likely. I understand Rogers getting lots of flack, but the back office including Rudkin have put us in a right pickle and hardly aiding any recovery on the pitch.
-
My view is that if this deal was being negotiated to be a free transfer when he has a year on his deal then we should just keep him. We shouldn't be gifting players of his quality (Yes I understand he's not had any consistency for us but he is a premier league quality player) We should at least get 5 - 7 with a year left, we apparently want 30+ for Tielemans who's in exactly the same position.
-
That tweet doesnt make sense.. Perez can't give anything up and go for free, the club hold his contract and will want a fee... unless he's buying out his own contract, to go for nothing..

£300 Bill to play in the Women's Academy
berniethebolt replied to StonyFox's topic in Leicester City Forum
"Academies" are ten a penny these days, be it local sides offering junior football in the JPL and MJPL or those that affiliate/franchise with a football club. These are 99% pay to play and a great revenue stream for a club / business. If you are a feeding into a professional setup, like LCFC then once you are restricted from playing grass roots (and many will be from U13+) then the club sees you as a potential asset and you should not have to pay. -
Some bizarre comments that "Rogers can not be trusted with the money, wasted millions of cash" Signings on the whole by the club during his time are very solid... not that Rogers signs them anyway, recruitment do all this. Rogers signed in 2019? If we look who came during that time Tielemans - Superb signing in my view Fofana - again superb Perez - Good squad player off the bench but we certainly overpaid. Castagne - great squad player Justin - great player Daka - Starting to score again and will come good Praet - good player, just didnt get a chance due to quality in that area Vestergaard - He was an error, but arguably a bottom half Prem player Bertrand - error - but was Free and purchased as position cover/first team for Fuchs and Chillwell The clear out comment was justified as well if we are serious about trying to squeeze a top 6 sport consistently.

Depends what you want from your captain. If its to be a symbolic powerhouse then Vardy. Ask anything else of him other than setting an example then his game will drop. I'm never fond as a striker as captain, they have 1 job without baggage, score goals. A senior player should get the role though and looking at an on the pitch leader with experience to organise, then Evans, Tielemans the logical choices for me. The rest can not quite command enough respect (especially amongst the senior heads and egos), which Kasper and Wes did.
-
Was a stand out tonight, looked sharp and fit and hungry to get involved and I suspect with Monaco scouts watching they would have seen all this and been suitably impressed. Should help to get his move over the line and squeeze a few extra mill we need. Best of look if he goes.

Frustrating as it is at the lack of movement (as all fans want the club to move fwd), we have no choice but to be patient and get the right targets for the right fee, as we can not compete with the huge revenues the "big 6" bring in at world wide level, hence their salary base and our need to opertae this year on a one in one out bases (what is seems). This is largely driven I would imagine by no European football and the hit that lack of revenue will have on our balance sheet, so a lean squad is a must. It baffles me that fans think the head coach makes the signings and hands out contracts... Rogers and his coaches will have zero time for any of that and the recruitment team, statisticians, and scouting department handle all that. Rogers may get a "what do you think of him?, want to have a chat...think you can work with him?" And that will be as far as it goes. Fingers crossed a bit of movement soon

Phil Collins hit the nail on the head.. We has a life, we had a love, but you don't know what you've got 'till you lose it! Youris quality will be a huge loss, forms been hit and miss but so has pretty much one. He early vision to pick a killer pass when playing higher up is natural talent and can not be taught.
-
Perez did well there.. pure skill for the assist and also unlocked them a few times.
-
What a frustrating goal to conceed, all our own doing. For me started with Tomas giving up a 60/40 on the left, then getting caight flat footed and beaten on the overlap which led to the corner. If Tomas accelerates onto the pass it never happens. Frustrating.

Who have we rejected, who went on to become a top player?
berniethebolt replied to enmac's topic in Leicester City Forum
Thinking about "ones of our own" who we invested alot of time to develop and nurture through our system and then released from our youth setup. We didnt offer Dion Dublin a professional contract after he came through our youth system for years. Ivon Toney, who's was with us all through his youth and already been mentioned and of course Che Adams. All went on to secure themselves at top flight football and played for or very close to International level. -
He's quality and has just fell foul for years of trying to win a spot over Nididi, when he's been one of the most effective CDM in the Premier league for years. When called upon always does an adequate/good job with no match practice, a sign of his ability. Always shows for the ball and very composed on it, he does shield the back line well, not as good in the tackle as Nididi but definitely better on the ball. Be a shame when he moves on, which I think he will, as he's a fantastic squad player to call on, like Amartey.

For me, it unfortunately comes as part of your style of play. Rogers and alot of other coaches play to have a really aggressive high press. This puts huge pressure on fitness levels of players and brings any niggle to the fore, when they don't get adequate recover or rest. Klopp almost crippled Liverpool when he joined and implemented this style.
