I honestly think we did have a lack of squad depth. Out 2nd choice players for Ricardo, Winks, KDH, Ndidi, Fatawu and Mavididi were vastly inferior most of the time. We had depth in defence, but Vesty made himself undroppable in Enzo’s system. We also had depth up front until others went off the ball and we were left reliant on Vardy again. Leeds definitely had more ability to rotate in the forward positions. Southampton arguably also had more depth than us. If we’d had a run of injuries like recent seasons I think we might have struggled to maintain top six

I don’t want Potter simply because I can’t say his name without putting some sort of strange emphasis on it as if I were Severus Snape or Draco Malfoy. I think, however, this problem is probably unique to myself and I should perhaps seek professional support

I’ve a theory that our next managerial appointment will be as underwhelming to us as Maresca’s appointment is to the Chelsea fans
-
The poll was just used as an illustration of how fans react after short periods of form. We’re not exactly known for taking a long term view.

What I do know is that football fans are notoriously fickle. The fans demanding loyalty now will be the same fans who will be wanting the manager out if we’re bottom at Christmas playing boring football. I simply don’t think it’s realistic to expect loyalty after an approach from Chelsea. Fans don’t usually give managers much time and neither do the suits that appoint them. They’ve got to maximise their appeal whilst their star is high

Are these the same fans that started an “Enzo out” poll before the season had finished with the vast majority supporting his exit?

Not sure that you can pin this one on incompetence. What could we really do if Chelsea come knocking? We gave Rodgers a massive contract during similar speculation and that didn’t work out too well for the sustainability of the club.

I think this sums up where I am perfectly. He’s done the job he came to do and got us promoted. We really didn’t need a manager change this soon after he’s got to know our players. I was, however, really worried about his tactical flexibility during our poor run last season. He really didn’t have a clue when plan A failed. It will be interesting to see how it goes at Chelsea. If it starts well it could work well for them, but if he goes on a bad run it could go sour very quickly. I’m not sure their fans would have too much patience if they’re losing and he just tries exactly the same thing game after game - with zero ‘in game’ management

I agree. Moyes would be a solid appointment, but not an exciting one. The likelihood is, however, that we’ll start with a points deduction, not much money to spend and be fighting to stay up. A pragmatic manager might just be what we need

…. or a malignant one?

David Platt! Not the bloke who scored a last minute goal against Belgium at Italia 90 ….….…. but a character in Coronation Street. The actor who portrays him is called Jack P Shepherd who is … a LEEDS UNITED fan!!!

I think I’d rather have some of them fried - particularly when thinking of Brendan.

I have just achieved 4 consecutive quadruples playing as Leicester City in FIFA career mode. The setting was on “World Class”. To be honest I would expect my obvious credentials to shine through should they be tested in a selection process. That’s if I chose to apply. I’d want some assurances from Rudkin and Sue first.

I like him, but on the balance of risk versus reward it probably wouldn’t have been the right decision to sign him. Especially for a few million that is precious in the current climate. He might have been ok, but I feel it would more likely have gone a similar way to the likes of Cengiz Under. Hopefully we can find a less risky or inexpensive option

I see what you did there

This time next season...........................

Wondering why we signed Jesse Lingard as a panic, January, signing! -
Personally think that fans are obsessed with pitch invasions. They usually look a bit small fry. The exception being when it is a spontaneous outpouring and very much in the moment. Not something that’s pre-planned. Those situations are actually quite rare. The last one I was involved with is when Tony James scored and we stayed up on the last day. I can’t remember too many occasions since that it felt like the right thing to happen despite what we’ve achieved.

Well Smallbone might have potential to be a Bigbone if we do well next season

It’s a good job that we’ve all got such certain knowledge of JV’s personal finances isn’t it?
