Marti Cifuentes sacked - Official

I wonder if Winks was out because he told Cifuentes he was sh*t. He might actually play for another manager. -

They'll dump it on Andy King because he's here and they won't have to pay someone else to do the same job. I feel sorry for him if it happens. You know he won't want to turn it down even if he should. -

How many of that Southampton defense did we sign? Remind me. -
Would this bunch of players respect or even fear King? The younger players might, but they are not the problem. Is King the sort of person who can motivate them?

This is one of the things that annoys me most, there is no imagination to try something different. If inverted wingers are not working then switch them. If Ayew drops deep then who is running beyond him. Ayew and Daka are not scoring then try Mavididi, use a false nine. It might not work, but at least it might cause the opposition to stop and think.

Cifuentes froze out Thomas for a couple of games, but decided to use our best CB as Left Back. -
I agree with this, if you don't have the players then you can make up for it with hard work and good organisation. I just had a look at a replay of Oxford's second goal with a view from behind our goal. Before the break all of our players drifted over to our left and no one covered the break by 3 of their players. It makes me think that the last substitutions were a panic move and there was no plan as to the responsibilities of the players on the pitch. I get that he threw everything at getting an equaliser, but it lef Louis Page as our only central midfielder and he was pushing up to supprt the attack as well.

This is the problem, as a 17 year old in his first full season he should be able to rely on the experienced professionals around him and should be supported by him. We shouldn't have to rely on him to replace our most influential player of the season (James). He is doing amazingly well given the circumstances.

Chouhary and Page.
-
Do you think he's trying to get the sack to get the payoff?
-
Harsh, given how much better than us they were.

4 points off the playoffs, 9 off 2nd... and 13 from relegation places!

I just suddenly had a feeling it will be 1-1, might have been wind though. -
Gives us the chance to see what happens in the transfer window. If we manage to get rid of Soumare and Winks then Braybrooke would be on the bench to cover Skipp or JJ. If not then he goes back out on loan either to Newport, preferably as he is settled there, or League 1. You would hope the club have been talking to him constantly about his options and preferences.
-
Better stay at Newport then!
-
Looking at the Loans thread, you could add Joseph, Cartwright and Wilson-Brown to the squad. Not sure Alves makes it unless he has a decent second half of the season.

Corrected for you!

I think this is the point, it is possible for 'smaller' clubs than us to stabilise themselves in the PL, but theyhave to be incredibly well run. We had success, but p*ssed it away with appalling recruitment in terms of both players and caches/managers. In reply to the title of the thread I would say James, if he stays, possibly Stolarcyk, apart from the last couple of games and potentially Nelson. To get back to the PL we need to rebuild and recruit responsibly starting with a real Technical Director.
