Ian Olmondroyd has a bit a cult status, particularly among a certain age group, but tinged with a hint of ridicule with his gangly legs (unfairly!). I’ve often wondered if cult status would have been upgraded to legendary if his header at Wembley had gone in and not been parried to Steve Walsh. Imagine the first time we win at Wembley and it’s big Ian Olmondroyd who bags the winner… Perhaps one of those LCFC sliding doors moments. There must be plenty more sliding doors moments when it comes to players and managers, but what sticks in your mind…?

I’ve seen nothing from Coady in his limited appearances to say he is better than Vestergaard. Vesty sets the tone with his distribution and timing of it - I think he’s integral to how we play.

Yea we are weaker depth wise. I’d like to see more of Yunus because I think he has real guile and quality in central areas. -

Cooked, or just that they had a poor game yesterday? -
12 points clear last week, and now 11. We’ve been more clear than 12 and less. It’s the ebb and flow. If we created nothing yesterday - fine I’d be concerned. But we did, and we’ll be fine. We still have a very nice cushion.

Southampton also have tough fixtures, and have to make up 12 points to overtake us with a game in hand. So that’s 4 more wins than us in 13-14 games. Nearly 1 point per game more…

Maybe he’ll go abroad next. Somewhere in the Netherlands, like Pardew did. -

And according to my mate who’s a Chelsea fan, they conceded 15 seconds after he came on!

It was below his standards for sure and I was expecting the net to ripple, but I don’t think it was a howler. I was in line with the cross and the ball looked to be ever so slightly behind him so had to adjust and couldn’t get a clean connection. And the defender had his foot in, but yes he should have scored.

All these comments saying how banging it was - and it has improved recently - make me laugh today because the bloke in front of me was getting notifications and playing Scrabble Go a lot 🤣

Middlesbrough (H) 1-2 - Post-Match Thread

I made a similar post to this after one of the other games we lost (can’t remember which). I think today I’d be concerned if we didn’t create as many opportunities as we did. All teams at the top can’t win every one - it even happens to the Man City’s, Bayern Munichs etc of this world. Personally I think that having seen most teams in this league, we’re far better to implode and too clear to be worried - even if we lose at Leeds. -
The question everyone is asking. We miss his physicality, presence and (in this league) the ability to both defend and drive the team forward.
-
Of course this is a big game, but more for them than us. We have points in the bank, and even if we lose I can’t see us collapsing. Relax everyone! It was poor today, but we had chances that on another day we win. But one mediocre to poor performance doesn’t mean we’ve suddenly become Big Brendan bottlers.

I had 3 hours to digest that on the way home. On another day we take our chances and we win, but we got exposed and paid the price. They got a lot of joy on the transition and winning the ball in certain areas (when we were attacking) and clipped a ball down the channel. Rarely this season have I been concerned about Vesty and Faes lack of pace, but fair play to them it’s a weakness and they exploited it. I thought all the changes toward the end was a bit desperate and we looked like a bunch of strangers. I also can’t recall a game this season where key players were all poor. Hopefully it will be a wake up call and looking at it positively might mean we don’t get complacent. -
Everything he said, and the way he says it.

Russell Martin’s post match interview in the studio on Sky - what a **** this guy is. I can’t quite find the word, but he’s certainly the opposite of likeable.

All good points, but let’s where Brighton are in 3-4 years and then judge them against what we did
-
I wouldn’t even say Brighton are ahead of the chasing pack at the moment. They’ve had an iffy season I think. They’re probably towards the top of the chasing pack, but not ahead of it imo.
-
Haha so all the rest have got to the point where they’ve been duffers then! 🤣

Reflective of how local journalism has fallen. Looking for clickbait responses and headlines to non questions/issues.

Always the way with a club like ours. Just need to make sure the next guy is able to carry on the momentum should he succeed here.

West Brom playing Southampton tonight at home, and have just announced a major takeover. That could be handy for us. Hopefully that should give them an extra 5-10% boost tonight and work in our favour. Southampton lose that, and we win tomorrow we’d be 17 clear (albeit Southampton with a game in hand).
