Another possibility And you’re right ight about putin’s motives re keeping Ukraine closer to Russia until an election or two delivers a president and parliament more ‘sympathetic’ to Moscow. Perhaps Putin would be best served by getting a peace deal where he has to give back land but gets guarantees that Ukraine won’t be allowed to join NATO or the EU. Then it becomes a matter of time before he can move onto the domestic Ukrainian political side of his plans.
