No one is going to offer him a contract before his deal expires as they’ll need to see he’s recovered i doubt we’d want to commit to a new deal now either (not the one we’d put on the table anyway) maybe we’ll offer a 2 year extension on 5k/week with auto increases if he is available for first team selection.

Hackney signed that deal in 2023 when he was 21 so it’s a good comparison but whilst we still have players on 30/40k per week who aren’t pushing to play every week then convincing a flying Braybrooke in December that he should commit to the next five years for 10k/week isn’t going to work. if he’s not flying in L1 then we probably shouldn’t be thinking too hard about keeping him.

Agree that Alves will struggle until he can show he is able to shake off his injury issues. Braybrooke is 100% demanding 20k min to sign a new deal. Joseph has had a good campaign in the lower leagues and another with us will mean he takes the same view as sammy. I’m not sure when his deal expires but if he’s a free agent next summer then that raises the likelihood. At this time he’s unable to negotiate at the same level as Braybrooke. Whilst we are a league 1 team, no agent views us as such because the assumption is that we will be promoted within next two seasons and our budget is a championship scale.

We write down 20% of his fee (£5m) each season in the accounts so he’s costing us 5m each season he’s here if we get 2m for a season long loan then we’re down 3m on our p+l and we’ve not got the player. Of course keeping him means we’re 5m down but at least he could make a contribution to our season. Add in that we’re probably paying him 2m in wages and Preston wouldn’t go above 1.25m and you can see what a frigging mess we’re in!

Loan fee wouldn’t be anywhere near his amortised value this season so a loss on our books for 26/27 plus us paying a good portion of his wages probably worth keeping him on that basis
