Saw this thread was bumped and realized I've been off the wagon since Mum died in December after 8 years without a drink. Dad offered me a whiskey the night of her passing and it tasted so good. We spent the next two weeks drinking different whiskeys every night and bam - I'm back on it again. Started drinking the odd bottle of beer when the weather started getting hot and now drinking a couple every night then a few whiskeys before bedtime. All the stress of this house move/renovation among other things and feels like I'm becoming dependent again. I've had stretches over the last 35 years where I've been off and on the booze for years at a time. I can't just seem to have just the odd drink now and again. I'm all or nothing and always have been.

I can't wait for the Ashes. It's going to be epic.

As a youth, David Gower and I.T. Botham were my England cricketing hero's. During the last 40 years England have had some decent players but nobody has really made my balls twitch like those two did. Until Ben Stokes. I love everything about him (apart from being a Kiwi ) What a talent and what a leader. We'll miss him hugely when he's gone.

Been in our new (old) house exactly a month now and firmly in the valley of despair with this renovation. It's an interesting combination of frustration and impatience mixed with the odd tinge of progress and satisfaction. Been working my nuts off removing old wallpaper, coving, and skirting boards, while also gutting the garden, chopping down trees, fixing the drainage, and filling three skips of shite. Didn't realise how reliant I'd be on decent tradespeople though. The good ones are always busy and it seems a constant battle to get them in to start stuff. At least we've got the new hot water cylinder in now and old radiators off, and electrics being done next week - so baby steps. Learning loads in the process but can absolutely see the attraction in buying a new build

Think I've seen more of Bennett Scheffler growing up than my own kids
