It’s Rivalry Week - might as well try to resurrect this thread. The Egg Bowl, the Territorial Cup, Aggies v Longhorns, the Iron Bowl. The games CFB fans live for. The true local derbies of the USA. Our great-grandparents were living and dying with the results of the same matchups. Don’t let the NFL’s temporary, plastic “rivalries” fool you. And the biggest and baddest of them all, The Game. THE Ohio State visiting the cheaters up north. We don’t really know how good the Buckeyes are, because the Big Ten has been poor. But if OSU HC Ryan Day finally wins this one, he’s back on track to become one of their greatest ever coaches. If he doesn’t, that’s most of the credit he banked for winning the natty evaporated, in a mere 3 hours. This weekend is heaven. But hell if your team loses.

One that spent several years in the Deloitte list of highest revenue clubs on the planet - 17th as recently as 2023 (21/22 accounts). In three years, the club pissed away that financial position, then set fire to the last remnants by pre-spending the parachute payments on dross with no market value. PL and European status and cash were nothing against this onslaught of waste. Now it appears the final parachute was torn through before it could be deployed. What is left to cushion a very hard landing?

I realized there is NO bottom to this slide when they pushed Susan out. Not because she was blameless (though Pearson & Vardy made certain things clear). But because it brought home that this club is just Nepo Boy and Overpromoted Gym Teacher Suckup with NOTHING to buffer their total incompetence. It defies all logic to go from a world top-20 club (in both revenue and squad value) to a debt-ridden second division basket case in 5 years. But if you are clueless enough to make a 5 year string of horrific decisions, and spoiled enough to not give a **** about any of the fallout, holy crap, it IS possible. It all ends up feeling like a deal with the devil. The Evil One fulfilled his end in 2016, then showed up in October of ‘18 to collect his due. And to drop the club into hell without an escape route.
