  1. Krystals (or whatever its called these days) gone up in smoke... https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/large-fire-breaks-out-leicester-7660766
  2. Looks like celebrities get to jump the queue to see the Queen. Holly Willoughby and Schofield in through a side door today getting the VIP treatment
  3. BBC1 have cleared their schedule until this evening for a news special
  4. Big piss up in the Downing Street garden to celebrate now no doubt.
  5. Photos of The Beatles, Rolling Stone, The Who and a few others playing in Leicester... https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/history/gallery/mercury-archive-photos-show-beatles-7529066
  6. Taylor Hawkins' son playing drums on My Hero... wow. Just like his dad.
  7. Guess it depends on how you judge the biggest aircraft. The C5 is slightly longer than an A380 and can carry much more cargo, but the A380 has a longer wingspan and a much larger maximum take off weight. There all big though, shame the days of 4 engine aircraft (at least for civil aircraft) are coming to an end over the next decade or 2.
  8. Emirates A380 flies daily into Manchester. A380 is now the biggest plane flying thanks to Russia destroying the one of a kind Antonov 225 cargo plane in Ukraine.
  9. Shame they couldn't terminate the route at Birstall, at least punters could change onto the Arriva Leicester to Loughborough & Shepshed services there.
  10. As a born and bred Melton Mowbray resident I'm a bit disappointed that the 2 roundabouts in the town I can think of aren't named the pork pie roundabout.
  11. A little off topic, but I saw Mark Little (Joe Mangle in Neighbours) do a comedy set sometime in the 90s in Leicester. Part of the comedy festival, filling in for Craig Charles as I recall who couldnt make it. It was at the YMCA near the train station. Fire alarm went off mid-set and we all piled out into the street. Mark was great fun in the street telling jokes to keep everyone amused. Happy days. RIP Neighbours
  12. White Christmas now on Film4 if anyone fancies a change of scenery
  13. Revised timetables were published yesterday and online train time checkers are showing this. No reason that people couldn't have found out this info before leaving the house.
  14. Think it's just easier to have a temporary timetable or total suspension for the whole day. Leicester to London trains are running some sort of service I believe, yet Cross country trains have suspended the Leicester - Melton - Stansted service completely until Wednesday. None of this helps if you still have to get to work though.
  15. Heat causes the rails to expand and buckle, hence you get speed restrictions or cancellations. Rails in the UK are stressed to 27C, hence speed restrictions are in place when it gets hot. Hotter countries stress their rails to higher temperatures so don't have some of these issues.
  16. Melton council have said the bins will be emptied earlier on Monday and Tuesday. Think they will be starting their rounds about 6am and are advising to put your wheelie bin out the night before. Imagine it will probably be the same for many areas as well. That job is hard graft anyway, let alone in 40C heat.
  17. My dad bought one of those SumUp card payment keypads for his market stall that he has a couple of days a week. Seems a growing number of people are going to markets and car boots without cash these days. They only cost about £25 to buy and take 1.6% per transaction as a fee. Sales at his stall have gone up a lot since he has the option of card payments.
  18. Macca's full set now available on iPlayer
  19. Diana Ross' voice about as good as her penalty taking these days.
  20. It's not on iplayer or sounds yet but here is the link... https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0018sfr Listed as 1 hrs 59 mins so it's been cut quite a bit. Guess it's a copyright thing why it's been delayed.
  21. Almost a 3 hour set from Macca, not bad for an 80 year old. Great cameos from Grohl and Springsteen as well.
  22. Marc & Lard as the Shirehorses did a few parodies...
