  1. I think they clawed a bit of money back when they sold Ade.Unlikely to get anything for Daka.
  2. Great points made there that just reinforce my feeling that next season might not be all plain sailing.I imagine that taking a couple of seasons out to rebuild isn’t an option A risky strategy at the best of times.Gaining promotion asap by any means will be the priority.
  3. The bulk of that squad should never have been relegated if we’re honest. It lost Madders and Barnes etc but recruited well.Apart from the late season blip it was HMS piss the league. The current squad really does deserve to go down.Any players left over from 2 seasons ago have got worse not better.Recruitment in key areas required. If the wage bill is far and away top 2 then promotion should be more than achievable.Just can’t see it being as easy this time.
  4. Two potential issues with this. Firstly-last time the board managed to recruit a decent manager Secondly-we will be going down minus a 20 goal a season striker. Both these things can be fixed but it’s easy to see why supporters are nervous. The trouble with being a yo-yo club is that eventually you lose the upward bounce.
  5. I used to think Division 3.was the pits.Possibly the bleakest league to end up in.Over the last few seasons it’s become one of the most exciting. Like Division 2 used.to be until it became full of financially ruined, burnt out ex PL clubs. There’s a great mix of ambition and out and out pluckiness.Add the teams who have lost their way a bit and it makes for a very interesting division nowadays.Four teams going down is brutal.
  6. Charlton are motoring. They keep winning 2/1 or 2 nil.Have a very settled first eleven and strong bench and made Wycombe look ordinary when they beat them at Christmas.Five points in it now. They have to play both Wrexham and Wycombe in the run in
  7. Have you learned nothing from the past three years? The emerging nations, global south if you will, have no beef with Russia. They like the cheap oil which is helping their GROWING economies.90% of the world’s children ain’t the West. You are going to have to get used to this. The potential consequences of economically cutting Russia stone dead maybe a price you and your circle of friends are willing and able to pay.Don’t expect everyone to be as patient. Have you even considered the fallout if the Russian economy does collapse NEXT YEAR?Do we Balkanise it?What if there’s a civil war?Loads of guns and stuff floating around there at the minute.5000 nukes stored God knows where. What could possibly go wrong. A real mess
  8. The level of ignorance in this post is astonishing
  9. Charlton may have left their late charge 3/4 games too late but will be really pleased with the playoffs.Stockport away next
  10. Charlton really motoring now.Is it too late for automatic promotion?
  11. It was a very brave signing considering MON had to move on the popular Julian Joachim and Steve Corica,to bring him (A journey man)and the two unknowns Lennon and Izzet,in
  12. Bradford will likely be the team to knock on the SL door loudest. They sit 16th on the IMG list this season but should rise up a couple of places by October if they do well this year. In terms of name history, support etc they come straight after the Wigans Leeds and St Helens.Being in the SL gives you such an advantage to be able to invest in the areas where you need to keep the ratings high. Will be interesting to see if any team gets dislodged.I suspect eventually they will just expand the top flight and to hell with the rest.
  13. Really chuffed with that result.Eccles has managed to make a couple of quality signings to add to the mix of journeymen.youth and top end Championship quality experience..They also seemed to be quite fit which is encouraging.Just no one get injured all season. Featherstone travelled in good numbers and still have one of the best kits in rugby imo.
  14. There’s been some poor management over the years.2006 stands out because the club was in such a rut.Administration had finally caught up.
  15. Well the good news is that London have cobbled together a threadbare squad of sorts, and thanks to Eccles enthusiasm the mood is still positive. With no outside investment on the horizon the future still looks very uncertain. To be able to maintain their improved rating and be an attractive proposition, the club has to keep playing at Plough Lane or somewhere equivalent.Wimbledon charge in the region of £200000 a season.Being self sufficient this is totally unsustainable. So it looks like a fairly rapid decline as of 2026 without outside help. A real shame as last season showed that there is still potential for southern representation. The fan base is as diverse as you can get.Similar to the London Lions basketball.A high proportion of woman and children.Unfortunately short term children don’t bring the money in. All we can do is drag someone with us to each game and buy stuff from the shop. We have already been warned the team won’t improve until the 2nd half of the season as usual.so Featherstone fill yr boots next week.
  16. Is that where his comments came from,The Athletic?Would like to see the full interview.Even the Mercury used to misquote him.
  17. Charlton Athletic starting to build some real momentum now.Perhaps Nathan Jones is a decent manager after all.??
  18. You have to be a bit more imaginative these days, what with all the smart phones and cameras etc. Inspector Morse would piss a living now.Home and hosed by 11:30am and sat in the pub.Case closed.
  19. I remember having very mixed emotions about this.one.ÂŁ1.8 million quid seemed rather a lot for a left back with our limited funds.Seven digit transfer fees were still very much a novelty in 1996 for Leicester City
  20. Both MON and Peter Taylor were very keen on John Hartson. He was always just out of reach
  21. Mainly on the old wireless but starting to pop up on tv now.BBC Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri.
  22. The bad rap he gets is totally unjustified.Always found him to be one of the better pundits on TalkSport whenever he’s been on.He’s lived a bit which helps. Also came to the rescue of an elderly lady who had collapsed during Covid,on his way to TalkSport duty which he immediately down played. That and other positive stuff I’ve heard about him.
  23. Just to add that the atmosphere had been diluted somewhat since the all seater rule had come in.The main selling point was that the new ground was 50% bigger and that meant a lot. Derby and Southampton were the guinea pigs and they had made their moves to similar bowl type stadiums hassle free.We had the added bonus of being able to keep the same pre match routines. An early 22/23 fixture v Derby County which we won 3:1 i think, produced the feistiest atmosphere i can remember in L1.Better than anything Filbert Street post all seater. It was immediately clamped down on.Never been the same since.
  24. David Pleat had a good look at Ian Stewart about 88/89.He gave him at least one game for the reserves.
  25. I seem to remember he was on Micky Adam’s wish list for 03/04 season. Just couldn’t afford him
