Marti Cifuentes - Style of Play, Tactics and Analysis
Paninistickers replied to StriderHiryu's topic in Leicester City Forum
Just bringing up a post from August. Not (entirely) to be a smart arse....but remember thinking at the time - how much can be drawn from pre season training videos? I didn't think too much. But Andrews' pre season looked more impressive than ours and at present it's bearing out. -
I'm glad someone else remembers that. It was an extraordinary performance for a professional. Without any exaggeration, he played like I would've done had I been asked to fill in. Terrified of the ball, went hiding, and appeared not to know where to stand looking pleadingly at his colleagues to help. The other game that sticks out was Brighton away , 6-2 or whatever it was. Only Ward's own performance overshadowed LTs, which was as bad as Saturday and Blackburn.
-
Combination of reasons. Not all his fault. He's largely been playing in a poor side. His confidence is shot. He hasn't been coached well. He's never had a run. We don't play to his strengths and we don't minimise his weaknesses. I'm still in an ever decreasing minority that with a bit of love, coaching, tactical instruction and luck, he could be a real asset for us at this level. But I accept that does sound rather far fetched.
-
I just can't see him ever selling. It's Hitler in the Bunker / David Koresh stuff. He'll choose scorched earth.
-
Gonna be interesting what he does next game. He's waved so many red flags so far yet he can still use this appalling period to reset. He has so many options available, it seems to have led to some kind of indecision paralysis. We have players at his disposal that could play a variety of styles; low block or high press. Wingers or full backs bombing on. Pack midfield. Three at the back. Instead, he's chose the most basic of set ups. It's vanilla in the extreme. whatever the formation, the tactics, none would accommodate BdcR or LT.
-
Just a hunch, but I think so too. There's something about the situation that reminds me of the Croatian lad who went to Celtic on loan.
-
Goodness gracious

Not digging you out in particular mate, just a general comment about the beatification of Vichai. There's too many who speak about him in such reverential terms.. He was a bloke who pumped helluva lot of money (from questionable origins) into us, and kept doing it until he got lucky. And seemed a pretty decent fella to boot. Nothing more, nothing less.

Realistic Managerial Replacements
Paninistickers replied to winteriscoming's topic in Leicester City Forum
Because he ground out enough results (in league one) before finding a rhythm in about mid November. First rule of management. Win. -
Realistic Managerial Replacements
Paninistickers replied to winteriscoming's topic in Leicester City Forum
All you have to do is get lucky. Forest did with Cooper then Nuno. We did with Pearson and Ranieri. There's absolutely no way Mandaric gave Pearson a 'project'. He just got the job as a pro manager (and then sacked to window dress the sale with de Sousa) . Ranieri appointment was from the same school of thought as appointing the Dutchman. Rudkin and Top are due a fluke. -
Realistic Managerial Replacements

I swear to god, if you gave me three professional coaches who could organise training and a fitness // conditioning dude, I could pick more competitive starting xis and better substitutions than Cooper, the Dutchman and now, sadly, Cifuentues. And I reckon a good 15% of the posters on FT could too. -
Fair comment. Goes both ways tho. I wouldn't expect a single player from your team to make our starting xi and most wouldn't make our bench. You just looked like a Millwall team to me. We're on a downer,.our lowest ebb for 20 odd years and we haven't bottomed out yet. Enjoy your win and your evening x

Errors are different to attitude. Throwing hands up may just be a sign of not enjoying seeing goals conceded. Agents haggling for moves....it's business love, not personal. He's a pro.
-
There is absolutely no evidence of this whatsoever. This allegation of attitude problem is some kind of weird parasocial relationship thing or projection of your own frustrations. I don't see it. I've never even heard him speak ffs, let alone observed a bad attitude

VK, who has fitness levels albeit questionable ability. Aluko who has speed and potential. Faes who has an imperfect ability. Ricky or Hamza next in line. Then, and I mean this, Okoli and Skipp a would be next in line. Then,.if all those were unavailable for selection, I'd consider Luke Thomas. He's basically my eighth choice left back.
-
Ive stuck up for Faes so much over the years. It's simply incorrect he's 'dross'.. Imperfect. Surely even the many rabid haters of Faes can see when he's Brought on a sub there is an instant,. immediate improvement. The ability gap between Wout Faes and Luke Thomas is seismic.

Blackburn in the FA Cup was the worst game I've seen him have. Or maybe Brighton away in that 6-2 debacle where he appeared to be running with an invisible ball and chain to his leg AND in quicksand. One of those scenarios where I'm disappointed to be right. I've checked this thread, and I've been calling the lad out since 19 July 2020. I was aghast that we had to play him and Ryan Bennett. I've had pleasant,.polite exchanges with his uncle on here who accepted the generally polite points I've made over the years about how poor a player I think he is. Not his fault. Just a sad indictment on the club at the woeful managers we've had that only one, Maresca, immediately saw him for what he was and bombed him out of the 25 man squad after 1 training session. Maybe Dean Smith also recognised how bad he is,.I can't remember tbh. But Cooper, the demented Dutchman, the spiteful Rodgers and now Cifuentues have all CHOSEN to play a lad who'd struggle in the non league

Tbh, I was horrified when I saw his highlights reel. Yet another example where mug punter fans appear to know more than professional coaches and scouts who devote their life to the game. -
Millwall Away Match Thread 25/10/25
Paninistickers replied to davieG's topic in Leicester City Forum
So easy for the oppo. Just attack down his side. -
I've never rated him, at all. Even after his debut at Spurs. I think it's one of those cases in life where luck and being right place, right time can sometimes get you a long way. He was played at Spurs courtesy of the usual injury crisis we always had under Rodgers. He wasn't some great hope from the academy l, like Chilwell, Schlupp, KDH, Barnes etc. He was played out of pure necessity (or maybe even one of Rodgers' strops) Had it not been for that crisis, the likelihood is he'd have drifted away, like so many other u/21 players who carve out some career in the lower leagues or national League. That said, funnily enough, I think he's actually playing his best stuff for us ATM. It's just his best is not that good.

Marti Cifuentes appointed new manager
Paninistickers replied to Tuna's topic in Leicester City Forum
major red flags were there after his fanboying of Luke Thomas and Bob Ried. I actually thought it was some kind of build them up strategy, but nope, he likes them. . Bob Reid brought on over Ayew? A dreadful decision. The Nelson situation worries me. Aluko. Page. And even tho Daka was dreadful when he came on, the lad needed a start to reward his work v Swansea. Every week odd decisions, odd substitutions -
Yeah, they irritate me big time. Been watching football since the 80s and they've had around 5 or 6 seasons out of 45 in the top league, and I'd guess an easy 15 in league one. The rest totally anonymous in the second tier. Nothing club.

No kidding, if you added up everyone around town starting at Witherspoon on high street, through st Martin's, down market street and bottom of new walk, there were no more than 300 punters. And a good chunk of them were in middle aged in mixed m/f groups and couples on a date night. There couldn't have been more than 50 who were there for a 'night out'......50, in a county of 1 million
