Premier League 2025/26 Thread

Yeah, but then they sack the manager, have a decent run do enough to stay up…repeat. -
Did we try and do a group hug but ****ed that up?
-
It is quite funny seeing posters having a coronary who this time last year were saying we had a squad so good it should easily stay up and just three weeks ago many were saying we would HMS Piss The League. While the squad is certainly now not good enough to challenge at the top, at least Marti seems to get the need to change the mindset.

There’s always teams like that waving a bad start. Even in January there were loads of posters on here saying our squad was better than Palace and we should easily finish above them. -

Bayern have been incredible in this first half. Game over though already. -
Yeah to be fair looking at the stats, I thought Iversen and Amartey had replaced them in the starting line up much earlier in the season than they did.
-
None of them were playing though. Completely agree with your other post about the change in requirement!
-
From the side that first got relegated there was only Faes and Soumare actually in the team who you’d argue was ‘Skybet’ that we actually bought in. Daka on the bench.
-
If you’re trying to be a force in the Champions League though you fork out bigger wages - but then the moment you don’t qualify for it and don’t get that extra income your spending is severely limited by PSR, especially for a club our size who doesn’t have the daily income of a Man U or Chelsea. We got relegated with a Europa league wage bill which is basically still the problem.
-
You’re absolutely right, but PSR does mean there’s a lot less leeway for mistakes. I’d argue Man U have been worse run than us, but they’re the right side of PSR so can get away with it more. Imagine us paying £80m for Maguire and it not crippling us, and that’s just one example of numerous at Old Trafford.

The obvious one not mentioned yet is Bury.

Marti Cifuentes appointed new manager

He was competing with Chillwell as well. Bassey left a month before. Even if he did break through which must have looked unlikely at the time behind a current England international and Thomas, what makes you think he wouldn’t be as currently maligned as the current home grown crop like Thomas, McAteer, Choudhury? -

Yeah that’s great. What would be your realistic goal this season though? -
A lot of it is still because we had a wage bill for a team finishing 5th to 8th in the Premier League. We’re still paying a price (literally and figuratively) for that.

Well yeah… if you’re Barcelona and you can attract both the best players and the best youngsters in the world, you don’t need as much defensively. If El Khannouss and Page were that good, they’d be at Barcelona. -

Whoever was coming in was always going to be ****ed. People weren’t happy when we walking the Championship but didn't get 100 points last time here. This time, whoever came in was expected to do better, with a group of players we all hate, are overpaid and are worse than the group we had last time around. That was even before the new manager was appointed way later, and with less funds, than even the most pessimistic might expect before the end of the last season. -

With what? Which of our players are suited to pressing football? -
Who’s younger in total? Transfer Market will have him as the youngest. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leicester-city/juengstetorschuetzen/verein/1003
-
History maker - Club’s youngest ever scorer I think beating David Buchanan’s 16 years and 7 months.
-
Get in!
-
Or his heads not there and Marti now realises he shouldn’t have started him.

I can’t remember how far wide Hulme put his penalty against Sheff Weds in the last home game before relegation to League One. I do remember seeing him and in Vice Versa in Loughborough after though.
