You can only judge our expectations as things stand and as it stands we have the strongest squad in the division by a distance and in my opinion a stronger squad than Enzo's. If and when things change such as departures and points deductions then expectations will be adjusted accordingly. Obviously. Without a very drastic exodus (and we have had next to no interest so far) and a points deduction, this squad should be on a promotion charge. 7th would be a failure. No, there's nothing wrong with that approach. Selling players for profit is the model that worked well for us and Rodgers abandoned. How many times did we try and fail to find a right winger? We bought Vestergaard when Fofana was injured. Not good enough so we bought Faes, not good enough... Ward to succeed Schmeichel. Not good enough, had to buy again. Daka, not good enough, need a new CF. It's a common theme, the trouble is, we are rarely able to sell the failures

Trouble is you need willing buyers. It is absolutely no surprise to me that we have not had any interest in any of them. If I was a supporter of a lower prem team, I wouldnt want any of them either. Not one.

We did finish 2nd and 3rd in the 20s. I don't suppose success was quite so dependent upon money in those days mind.

To be fair, for a city of our size and compared to most others, that is pretty much mediocrity. One League cup in our first 100 years and that was before it was really established. And it was 4 FA Cup Final appearances prior to winning it.

It is perhaps because have such a modest history that it stings all the more to have finally made it as an established premier League club only to then throw it all away with our own ineptitude. 100% self inflicted and 100% avoidable. Old timers should be just as frustrated as newcomers.
