Far too early to come out with things like that. Maybe if he's no closer by age 19/20 you may have a point. How many 17 year olds play 20+ a season?

Posted

Isn't he 5'11? So its not as if he's tiny and I'm sure he'll fill out too.

Is Mascherano too small to play holding midfield?

Is anyone trying to make out that he all all that? Out of the whole side Chilwell was clearly a class above, and hamza looked like he has potential to be a solid player. To suggest he should be knocking on the first teams door at his age is silly talk.

Sorry but for me that is absolute rubbish. It's only the extremely talented and potential world class players that are anywhere near ready to play first team football at the age of 17. To right off a kid at 17 is unbelievablely short sighted and narrow minded.

Look at Harry Kane for example he went out on loan at 18 from Tottenham and looked like he would be an average lower league striker until now at 21 where it has suddenly clicked and he's shown he can do the business at Premier League level.

I could make a list of even more young players who looked a non-starter until 20-21. Ross Barkley couldn't get a look in at Leeds and now look at him.

I'm not writing him off as a footballer. Just saying that he wont be good enough for us. He can ply his trade in the lower leagues.

I see nothing in him that makes me think he'll be a success with us.

If you want to make a list, make one of Hamza's attributes that you see that make you believe he can be a success with us.

I'd be interested in your take on that.

Heskey said that Man City's Barker could be knocking on the door of their first team; I don't see that either.

I think it's easy to forget that there is a huge gulf in class between U18s and Senior. Realistically, we should be looking more to U21 players like Cain who have been consistent in League 1.

Leicester are very good at not rushing a player's development. It will be interesting to see what they do next year because many of the U21 players will be over-age. Make or break for players like Blyth and Hopper. Chilwell and Choudury are still a few years away, in my opinon. Rushing players through is rarely the best tactic.

Standout? Ignore him not tracking for the 2 goals then?

You watched for just 10 mins and you think you're equipped to judge his performance overall and rate his ability?

One of the biggest problems young players have with breaking into senior football is that they struggle with the physicality of it. Looking at Hamza he has the frame to become a serious athlete, he will easily pack on muscle in the next few years as he develops his strength and conditioning and just simply through growing older. He's clearly a very physical player at his age group so with the added size and strength through maturing as teenager he will be able to cope with the physical demands at the next level. As well as getting stuck in and disrupting the opposition, when he did the get ball to feet he was very tidy with his distribution doing the simple things well but also when he switched the play he showed he had a full spectrum of passing in his locker.

He's still got much to learn but in time he will progress, I'm not claiming he's the next Yaya Toure, but what I am saying is he's not "dogshit" as you put it. IMO I think he will be good enough to make the step up at Leicester City.

Time will tell.

I didnt see anything like the range of passing you did. Even his short passes seemed to bobble around on the turf before getting to the target.

Packing on muscle doesn't neccessarily make you physically dominant. Liam Moore for example piled on a shitload of muscle last year but all that happened (by his own admission) was it affected his mobility.

Dont get me wrong, i'd like the guy to be a success but in my opinion from what i've seen of him, he's fvcking crap.

At 17, if you're not knocking on the door of the 1st team, then it probably isnt going to happen. Last night he looked miles off the standard required to play League 1 let alone the Championship or Premiership.

At 17, he is far too small in height and slight in build to play at a high level in that holding midfield position.

His passing was pretty poor, he cant head it, not particularly quick or skillful. Sure he goes in hard to a tackle but so what? That isnt useful enough to justify all the weeping fannys over the guy.

IMO of course.

He's not too small...How big does a holding midfielder need to be?....He's an excellent passer of the ball...He is very skilful...He can head it...You have obviously never seen him play before...I have...You know nothing....IMO....But I'm right and you're wrong

Well i seen him play two fantastic long balls out wide to switch the play in the game last night, but in the main, he is about putting in a tackle, breaking up the play and playing it simple, something i thought he did extremely well.

Of course he`s not anywhere near ready for the first team, but to me anyway, he looks like he might have a chance in a few years time, if he can keep developing.

As for being too small to play the holding role in midfield, how big was Lennon?

Lennon was never blessed with any pace either, but his reading of the game was so good, that he didn`t need it.

Lennon was physically dominant in stature. Hamza isnt. Pace is much more of a factor in todays game than when Lennon played.

If he turns out to be a superstar then fantastic. Currently I see nothing that makes me think he'd be anywhere near our first team ever.

Sorry.

Great to see the internet megascouts at it again. Can't we just enjoy their achievement this season without having to analyse the shit out of their possible futures? If they make it great, if they don't so be it. Good luck to all of them.

Fair enough.

Close thread.

Makelele was an unbelievable holding player and he was only 5ft 7. Don't think that size matters. That's what I tell the wife anyway :)
